Datasheet Fujitsu Xprint V8.0 Software Monitoring and managing print jobs in a heterogeneous world on heterogeneous platforms, several operating systems, enterprise applications (business applications, office applications, ERP s,...) and a large number of output devices. Xprint a monitoring helpdesk for printers and print resources Xprint is a comprehensive, high-performant and reliable print management solution that provides a transparent and controlled access to decentralized and distributed print resources. In large networks Xprint manages hundreds or thousands of printers. Xprint is part of the concept Enterprise Printing. This comprises Solaris, BS2000/OSD, SAP ERP systems, Windows, Linux and other UNIX-Systems (e.g.: HP-UX, IBM-AIX) in a spool network. The network architecture of Xprint allows to organize distributed print services in a network serving all systems and it supports a broad variety of printer models. In network infrastructures hosts can be pooled to a Xprint domain, with domain wide administration. Each domain represents a Xprint-Cluster, characterized by Single Image View, Single Point of Administration and the use of the common resources. In addition the Gateway of Xprint opens the access to other spool systems of type Berkeley and enables any exchange of print jobs between different print-domains including specific administrator commands. Graphical console Xprint offers a new web-based graphical interface for print-job management and network administration. The graphical interface facilitates the administration and handling of print jobs, e.g. multiple redirections, restarts. Thus the administrator gets a clear view of the IT infrastructure and can monitor the Xprint domain. All parameters can be modified dynamically without interrupting the running system. All systems with active Xprint components including Windows systems can be handled in the central graphical interface (single point of control). Page 1 of 5
Features and benefits Main features Xprint provides a comprehensive functionality High flexibility in print job management High flexibility in the choice of printers Variable printer connectivity Improved administration skills for SAP spool jobs High spool monitoring in heterogeneous environment Domain integration of printers at standalone clients Optimization of print resources Central printer and spool monitoring Different access rights for use and administration Use of standardized rules and interfaces Variable output target Mobile Printing Benefits Print job management like notification, scheduling, accounting, forms management, automatic restart, print redirection, archiving etc.. Filters allow highest flexibility for data formats and interoperability with external products as e-forms products. Support of printers of all performance ranges and printer technologies. Xprint supports matrix-, inkjet-, thermo-, LED-, Laser, Band- and shuttle matrix printers from 50 characters/second up to high volume printers (200 pages per minute and more) and all commercially available printer emulations, e.g. Diablo, ECMA, Epson, IBM-Proprinter, HP- LaserJet, Postscript. The access to printers with strange protocol can be realized with an own defined PCL (printer capability list). Connection of printers with different interfaces: V11-, V24-Centronics; V24-connections can be coupled over a LAN/TACLAN-Box; TACSI connections connect over the TAK; Terminal with V24-printer-interface; or LAN-printers over the LAN. High performance of ERP systems. The Xprint-ERP-kit allows a higher throughput of the print jobs. Moreover the administration and notification (inter domain) of the SAP spool jobs will be improved. Supported platforms. Beside Solaris and Windows Servers Xprint is also available on nearly all important Unix-platforms like Linux, HP-UX, and IBM-AIX. PC-Integration. Printers locally attached to Windows PCs can be configured as Xprint devices; they will be accessed thanks to the Windows LPD service. Interoperability. An optimization of print resources can be reached by the interconnection of Windows and Unix-systems with Xprint running on each system. Moreover Xprint allows the exchange of print jobs with other systems via the BSD/LPD protocol. Central spool administration. A bulk of tools for installation, configuration and monitoring allows the central and efficient administration of all printers. Printers can be assigned centrally to persons, groups of persons or groups of devices. This allows a better organized access to the printers. Secure and easy administration for different users. The access authorization, correctness and plausibility of the input are checked and in case of invalid input error messages appear. Xprint distinguishes between end-user, local administrator and the spool administrator for the network. International standards: Xprint complies with international standards (OSF Motif, TCP/IP, XPG3, ISO 10175(DPA= Document Printing Architecture)). FAX and Mail support. Print jobs can be sent directly to fax devices or E- mailboxes by Xprint. ipad and iphone can use the Xprint printing service Page 2 of 5
Topic News about Xprint V8.0 New functionality and more comfort were the targets of the development of the Xprint V8. The most outstanding highlight is the Domain Monitoring GUI. It is a web based graphical interface to monitor and manage the activities in a Xprint domain. Hot directory (not in Windows) for convenient print job handling, LDAP-support with Active Directory, better installation on Linux systems, ERP Kit for SAP with better job tracking and better status information for the active jobs are more news to ease the use of Xprint V8. With Xprint V8.0E the following additional add-on modules are available: MyStats - web based tool for statistical accounting reports, MyDocs connection module to realize a Follow Me Printing solution, MyDevAdmin - tuning user privileges regarding device and job admin, MyEvents - identify and report all kind of printer warnings and troubles. Xprint V8.0F supports now Windows 2008 Server SP2 and Windows 2008R2 Server. With Xprint V8.0G the feature MyDevConfig offers all the necessary functions for configuring devices and device groups. Xprint V8.0H offers the Xprint printing service to users of an ios device. Structure of Xprint V8.0 Xprint 8.0 is available for a lot of HW and SW platforms. The complete Xprint SW must be installed from the media CD-Xprint-Unix or CD- Xprint-Windows. The printer packages (amount of logical printers to be managed) were released with a keystring which is delivered on paper in written form. Xprint has a demo mode which allows to use the software for 30 days after start of the software and which provides the functionality for 32 printers in the network. After this period the entire functionality terminates until a valid license key is entered. The basis unit of Xprint Xprint-NET-SERVER offers the functionality on one computer for 32 logical printers and the network functionality of Xprint. With additional upgrade licenses the printer limitation can be extend to 8.193 logical printers and more. Xprint-NET-SERVER offers the Inter-Domain-Functionality (Xprint, DPRINT, LPD/BSD-Spooler) and also a "Single Point of View" and a "Single Point of Administration". For the NET-client functionality choose the license Xprint-NET-Client. The Domain Monitoring GUI needs a keystring if you need more than 2 instances. This keystring is delivered on a CD. MyStats, MyDocs, MyDevAdmin and MyEvents are additional add-on modules. MyEvents requires a keystring to activate. Page 3 of 5
