Finding Medica Network Providers When you enroll, you must select one of these networks: Medica Elect, Medica Essential or Medica Choice Passport. Generally speaking, you can t change networks once you are enrolled, so it s important to choose the best network for your needs. As you consider your network options think about: Whether your current providers participate in Medica Elect or Medica Essential. If they do, you could save on employee premium contributions while keeping your current providers. Whether it s important to have access to specialists without a referral. Medica Choice Passport is a large network that does not require referrals within the network. Medica Elect and Medica Essential are smaller networks that require you to designate a primary care clinic from a participating care system and get a referral for any care you receive outside that care system. Whether you live or work within a reasonable travel distance to network providers, especially if you choose a network that requires you to designate a primary care clinic.
