OEHS News at www.wvdhhr.org/oehs/eed The Certification and Training (C&T) Program of the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, Office of Environmental Health Services (OEHS) continues to oversee the certification of public water and wastewater system operators, backflow prevention assembly inspectors/testers, water well drillers and pump installers statewide. Each certified operator plays a crucial role in protecting the health and welfare of West Virginia citizens and visitors. It is essential that people receive clean, potable water and wastewater be discharged in an environmentally safe manner. Operator certification helps protect human health and the environment by establishing minimum professional standards. All public water and wastewater systems are required to be operated by currently certified individuals. Please visit http://apps.sos.wv.gov/adlaw/csr/ for the current state laws in effect. You may also call our office to request mailed, hardcopies of the current rule(s) and related forms. C&T continues to focus predominantly on certification and exam administration in 2015. However, EED will continue to work closely with WVRWA, WVETC, WV PSC, WVDEP and other key training providers to support the required initial certification and continued education (CEH) courses. Please note, all training courses and examinations require prior application, so confirm your registration with the appropriate location and provider contact. Please ensure any training you obtain to renew your certification is approved for water and/or wastewater operator CEHs in WV prior to attending. If in doubt, ask the training provider prior to registration. To register for a water or wastewater exam, please submit an EW-102 form 30 days prior. Keep in mind, any certification course requirement must be completed before the exam administration. OEHS classes are listed in brown on this calendar. WVETC Training News at resa5.schoolinsites.com The West Virginia Environmental Training Center was established in 1983 under the administration of the West Virginia Department of Education. Federal grant funds were obtained from the United States Environmental Protection Agency to construct and equip the facility for the purpose of providing training to wastewater and water plant operators. Continued operation is overseen by the Department of Education through the Regional Education Service Agency The West Virginia Environmental Training Center provides training and technical assistance to wastewater and water professionals statewide. Operators, managers, inspectors, and technicians attend both certification courses and continuing education workshops offered throughout the year. About 75 programs per year are delivered to approximately 1,200 participants. Water and wastewater operator certification courses are offered at many levels, usually twice a year. PSC Training News at www.psc.state.wv.us The Public Service Commission supports and promotes a utility regulatory and transportation safety environment that balances the interests of all parties and pursues excellence through quality. We do so to ensure that reasonably priced and reliable utility services are available to all customers, and to increase business investment, job creation/retention, and the state s overall economic competitiveness. With the support of its skilled, knowledgeable and dedicated professionals, the Public Service Commission of West Virginia will continue to be a nationally recognized leader in utilities regulation and transportation safety. We will work tirelessly to assure: 1. Impartial and efficient resolution of all jurisdictional issues; 2. Public safety through inspections of motor carriers, railroads, and natural gas pipelines; 3. An increase in business investment, job creation/retention and the state s overall competitiveness; 4. An improvement in the standard of living and quality of life for the people of West Virginia; 5. That consumers receive the best value in utility service from financially viable and technically competent companies; 6. That utilities receive an opportunity to earn a fair return on their investment in regulated services. The seminars presented by the Public Service Commission of West Virginia are for the educational benefit of water and sewer utilities in West Virginia. The information presented is to help utility personnel, board or council members and mayors have a better understanding of the PSC rules and regulations, the West Virginia Code, and sound operations and management practices. Registration for seminars will close 14 calendar days in advance of the first day of each seminar. If there is not sufficient participation (at least 10 participants registered) by that time, the seminar will be cancelled. Participants will be notified of any cancellations. Participant cancellations for seminars must be received, online, no later than three days prior to the first day of the seminar. No verbal cancellations will be accepted. Utilities will be billed at the rate of $100.00 for each participant who does not cancel according to these guidelines. PSC classes are listed in pink on this calendar.
