PURPOSE The purpose of this procedure is to form a base for the Koç University Minor Program that is being offered to successful undergraduate students who desire to gain knowledge in another field by taking a limited number of courses in the area of their interest while pursuing their major studies. 2. SCOPE This procedure applies to all undergraduate students registered at Koç University, and related people and units responsible for the process. 3. RESPONSIBILITIES 4.1. The President is responsible for the execution of this procedure. 4.2. The Vice President of Academic Affairs is responsible for the provision of this procedure. 4.3. Students are responsible for following up the latest revisions to the process and adhering to the rules in this procedure. 4.4. Faculty Deans and Directors of Graduate Schools are responsible for the application of this procedure. 4.5. Students Students receiving education in undergraduate programs 6. GENERAL PRINCIPLES The Minor Programs are offered with the recommendation of the related Faculty Council and the approval of the University Academic Council. The minor program must consist of at least 18 credits. 7. METHOD 7.1. Application, Acceptance and Registration 7.1.1. Applications to the Minor Program should be made at the Registrar s Office either before the Fall or Spring Academic Semester depending on when the Minor Program is offered. 7.1.2. Students may begin the Minor Program no earlier than the beginning of the first semester of their sophomore year, and no later than the beginning of the second semester of their junior year. The year of study of a student is determined based on the number of credits the student has completed in his/her Major program. 7.1.3 Students who have a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.60/4.00 as of the semester of their application may apply to the Minor Program. 7.1.4. Students must have obtained passing grades from their Major Program credit-bearing courses to apply for Minor Programs. Students with Unsatisfactory grades in 1- credit courses (except UNIV. 101, ALIS. 100 and CPAP. 150 courses) may still apply for Minor programs. 7.1.5. A student who has been withdrawn from a Minor Program cannot register to the same program again. 7.2. Success and Graduation 7.2.1. In order to qualify for the Certificate in a Minor Program, a student must have at least an average grade point of 2.00/4.00 from the courses given in the Minor program.
Page : 3 / 5 7.2.2. The Minor Certificate cannot substitute the diploma. 7.3. Withdrawal and Dismissal from the Minor Program 7.3.1. Students may withdraw from the Minor Program at any time upon their request. 7.3.2. Students in a Minor Program may register to another Minor Program with the condition to satisfy the application deadline and the success criteria. 7.3.3. Students whose Grade Point Averages fall below 2.60 for two consecutive semesters will be dismissed from the program. 7.3.4. Students who withdrew or were dismissed from the Minor Program are not required to repeat any of Minor Program courses they have failed. 7.3.5. The academic progress of a student in a Minor Program cannot influence his/her graduation from the Major Program. 7.3.6. A student who is on leave from the Major Program will also be considered on leave from the Minor Program without a supplementary decision. 7.3.7. If a student fails to complete the Minor Program requirements by the time he/she has completed his/her Major program, he/she will be given at most one semester to complete his/her Minor requirements with the approval of the University Executive Council. 7.4. Other Clauses 7.4.1. In addition to conditions set forth in these Procedures, new conditions can be introduced, and the stipulated success criteria can be changed by decision of the Academic Council. 7.4.2. Koç University Undergraduate Programs Academic Rules and Regulations are valid for subjects not covered by these Procedures. 7.4.3. All students are responsible for following up the most current revision of this procedure on the Registrar s Office s website 8. RECORDS Registrar s Office archieves the Minor application petitions. 9. REVISION The Office of Vice President for Academic Affairs has the responsibility of revising and updating this
