ARTWORK SHOWCASE Teens can submit individual artwork to display in a showcase. Types of artwork include: Mixed Media (the use of different artistic media, i.e. painting, photography collage in a single composition of work.), Drawing (color pencil, pen and ink, charcoal, water color and pastels), Photography, Sculpture, and Painting. This showcase has no competitive emphasis and is for displaying the talent of our Mid- Western Region teens. Exhibits should be submitted on the first day of the conference and remain on display based on the rules of the conference. Display Requirements 1. Only one (1) art entry per Teen may be submitted. 2. Art exhibits can be displayed on tables and/or easels. No items can be affixed to walls. An easel must be provided for artwork if required. 3. Each art exhibit must be labeled on the back of artwork or on an index card with the following information: Name of Teen, Chapter, and Teen Lead Advisor s Name. TALENT SHOWCASE Teens that qualified for participation in the Talent Showcase during the prescreen at IL and MI/OH Area Workday Clusters, will have received a letter of approval to perform their talent during the Talent Showcase at Teen Leadership Conference. Please indicate via regonline whether or not your qualified performers will be in attendance at TLC and will perform. All performers must conform to the code of ethics and decorum. This showcase has no competitive emphasis and truly just for fun. Participants will receive additional information in advance. A mandatory dress rehearsal will be held during the conference! BANNER COMPETITION Each chapter should create a banner which reflects their chapter and the Teen Leadership Conference theme. This is a way for the chapter to show creativity and pride. Be prepared for a picture opportunity that you won t want to miss! The sky is the limit! Materials? You decide! Colors? Be creative! Have fun! Remember your Chapter Banner is a reflection of your chapter! Banners should be submitted for judging on the first day of the conference and remain on display based on the rules of the conference.

Competition Rules and Display Requirements 1. Only one (1) banner per chapter may be submitted. 2. The banner must include the current year s conference theme. 3. The banner must be no more than six feet by three feet. 4. Your chapter name must be clearly visible and easily identifiable. 5. The banner must include grommet holes strong enough to hold banner for hanging. 6. The banner will be judged by a panel of individuals from the host community. Banner Competition Criteria Theme conceptualized 20 Graphics/Lettering 20 Originality 20 Creativity 20 General Appearance 20 OUTSTANDING SENIOR COMPETITION Each chapter may elect one (1) graduating senior to be the chapter s candidate for the Regional Outstanding Senior Award. The candidate must be registered and present at the current years Regional Teen Leadership Conference. Exhibits should be submitted for judging on the first day of the conference and remain on display based on the rules of the conference. The list of Outstanding Seniors will be listed in the Senior Recognition and Awards Banquet Souvenir Booklet. Each nominee will also receive a certificate. The Outstanding Senior nominees are introduced at the Senior Banquet. The judges will select the top three seniors who will receive cash awards of $500, $250 or $100. Competition Rules and Display Requirements 1. Only one (1) entry per Chapter may be submitted. 2. The senior must be registered and present during the entire Teen Leadership Conference. 3. The submission must fit on ½ of a standard 6-foot table; no floor space allowed. 4. The submission must not interfere with other submissions. 5. Displays or scrapbook should illustrate accomplishment for the criteria used in judging.

6. No videos. 7. The submission will be judged by a panel of individuals from the host community. Outstanding Senior Criteria High School Academic Achievement 20 High School Extra-Curricular Participation 15 Involvement in Community Service 20 Commitment to Jack and Jill 20 Development of Personal Interests and Hobbies 15 Involvement in the Arts 10 T-SHIRT COMPETITION Chapter can submit one (1) T-shirt that best represents the theme of the Teen Leadership Conference. Three prizes will be award for First, Second, and Third place. Exhibits should be submitted for judging on the first day of the conference and remain on display based on the rules of the conference. Competition Rules and Display Requirements 1. Only one (1) T-shirt entry per chapter may be submitted. 2. T-shirt should be displayed on a hanger. 3. T-shirt must include the chapter name. 4. T-shirt must include an index card affixed to the shirt with a safety pin that describes how the shirt expresses the theme. 5. The T-shirt will be judged by a panel of individuals from the host community. T-Shirt Competition Criteria Conference theme conceptualized 25 Is the expression of this concept? Overall general appearance 25 Index card is descriptive, meaningful and accurate 10 SKIT COMPETITION Chapter can present one (1) skit that expresses the conference theme. Three awards will be given; First, Second and Third place for each of two skit categorized. Large Chapter Division has 12 or more teens registered and present at TLC. Small Chapter Division has 11 or fewer teens registered and present at TLC. (These divisions may change based on the number of chapters participating in this category. The goal is to retain an equitable balance between large and small chapters.) Skit Rules and Guidelines 1. Only one (1) skit per chapter may be performed. 2. Skit presentation may be in the form of Drama, Comedy, or Musical. 3. Skits must be based on a real, past or current event or the teen s perception of theme. 4. No time for on-site rehearsals has been included in this year s schedule. 5. Maximum time allotted for each presentation will be six (6) minutes. 6. An oral introduction must precede the skit presentation. Introductions should not exceed one minute leaving five (5) minutes for the skit presentation. 7. Costumes, stage props, and music are the responsibility of the teen participants and should be kept a minimum for easy set-up and removal. 8. Stage set-up is limited to five (5) minutes. 9. One microphone and one electrical outlet will be provided. 10. Judges for the skit competition are from the local community. The judges are adults rather than teens. Bear this in mind when you think about content from your skit. 11. All ballots will be collected and recorded following each skit. Skit Competition Criteria

Step-off Competition Criteria Conference theme conceptualized 20 Step off focus on the theme 20 Original Presentation 20 Six (6) minute time limit met 20 Overall Presentation (voice, diction, props, audience appeal) 20 ORATORICAL COMPETITION This competition is reserved for those Teens who qualified for participation during the Il Area and Mi-OH Area Workday Clusters. Please indicate via regonline whether or not qualified orators will be attending Teen Leadership Conference and will give oration. The judges will select the first, second and third place winners for each Division below who will receive cash awards of $100, $75 or $50. There will be two (2) categories of competition: Category A The original oration is an original, persuasive speech prepared by the teen and delivered from memory. Category B The oratorical declamation is a memorized oral interpretation of a speech or prose written by another person. General Criteria 1. Each contestant will be assigned a number for identification purposes 2. Judges will be given the opportunity to review the scoring sheet prior to the contest. 3. The audience will be informed of contest rules before the contestants perform. 4. Qualifications for the judges will be announced to the assembly during introductions. 5. There will be an official timekeeper. A meeting will be held with the contestants immediately before the competition to ensure the rules are understood. 6. All time penalties will be determined by the official timekeeper 7. A certification of participation will be presented to all contestants. A monetary award based on performance will also be given. Performance Criteria 1. The topic of the oration should be based on the Teen Conference Theme.

2. Each contestant must state the topic in the opening of their presentation. 3. Official timing will begin immediately after the contestant states the topic. 4. Any salutations to the judges, audience, etc, should precede the announcement of the topic. Timing will stop when the contestant finishes. 5. The time allowed for each category of oration is three to five (3-5) minutes, without exception. Contestants will be cautioned about time, and will lose one (1) point if the time requirements are not met. 6. The constant may NOT identify him/herself or their chapter, city or state. Contestants will receive a 5 point penalty. 7. Any use of prompts, costumes, props, and/or special clothing will be cause for disqualification; without exception. Prototypes or posters can be used to complement the presentation. An esteemed set of local entrepreneurs will judge the competition. A $500 award will be given to the individual winner (or team). The oral pitch presentation should include the following components: 1. Executive Overview What is the idea and the story behind how it was formed? 2. Target Market Who is your target consumer? 3. Wow Factor What is your hook and how is it unique? 4. Revenue How do you make money on the idea? 5. Sales Strategy How will you bring this idea to market? 6. Investment Strategy - How will you invest in your business with the prize money received from the competition? Shark Tank Rules and Guidelines 1. Only one pitch per team may be presented. 2. The business idea must be unique and not available in the market today. 3. No time for on-site rehearsals has been included in this year s schedule. 4. Maximum time allotted for each presentation will be six (6) minutes. 5. Judges for the shark tank competition are from the local community. 6. All ballots will be collected and recorded following each presentation. Shark Tank Competition Criteria

Attractiveness of the Idea 20 Content Expertise 20 Financial Viability 20 Professional Attire 20 Overall Presentation (voice, diction, props, audience appeal) 20 TLC CHAPTER OLYMPICS Each chapter has a chance to go for gold within a tournament of field day athletic competitions. A team of up to 6 chapter members will be able to compete in five fun activities: Dodge Ball, Sack Race, A Hula Hoop Contest, Tug-A-War and Black History Tic Tac Toe. The team should be made up of 3 girls and 3 boys. Any two chapters with less than 6 teens in attendance at TLC may combine for ONE team. No prior experience is needed and the games are specifically selected so no one will have a sports advantage. The chapters that gather the highest scores from the 5 events will be awarded First, Second and Third place. *If the winner is a Two-Chapter team, they shall SHARE in the award if they place. Competition Rules 1. Each team will be assigned a rotation schedule 2. Chapter t-shirts can be worn during the gaming events 3. The spirit of competition should remain light-hearted 4. All players must respect each other and the game officiant 5. The event judging and tally will be performed by a group of local chapter mothers.
