Active in and on water Active Romsdal - expert on water activities Active Romsdal is the county s oldest activity business, and also one of the first to be established nationwide. Last year, Active Romsdal was approved by the Norwegian ecotourism business -Innovation Norway, and also met the UN demands - the first in More og Romsdal to do so. Romsdal Active has a wide range of activities, and are considered experts in water activities by the Norwegian paddling association. What about sea kayak courses, river kayak courses, flat water kayakk courses, canoe courses, canoeing, rafting, riverboarding, cave tours, hiking or dog sledging? Food and drinks, kayaks and equipment, neoprene shoes, life jackets and paddle jacket if there is rain are all provided. Paddling around the Atlantic, Nordmøre s most beautiful fjord is like experiencing the archipelago in the middle of a fjord. Our guide tells of the island s medieval history and unique nature. The fishing vessel Vikaskjær takes you to Alnes where we moor up walk inland. A quick visit to the lighthouse with coffee and Svele is recommended - a trip to the beautiful bathing beach on the west side of the island is also a good option. It is possible to take a walk on godøyfjellet for those who wish - This is a fantastic viewpoint and photo point out to sea to the west and over to Fuglefjellet! On the way back to Ålesund there is the opportunity to purchase refreshments. Return to Ålesund at about 13.00pm. This tour can be booked exclusively and it can also be arranged for times other than those specified. Everyone should be wearing good walking clothes. Activities High and low in Valldal Valldal Nature Experiences have the areas of Gudbrandsjuvet, River Valldøla and Nordalsfjorden as their homegrounds. Rafting in Valldøla is very popular, and Valldal Nature Experiences offers two different rafting trips. There is a calmer trip, so that the whole family including children down to 10 years can participate. If one wants to experience more in Valldal there is canyoning in Gudbrandsjuvet, climbing, courses in canoeing and activities in a wilderness camp, where living in huts is among the choices. The climbing field is 15-20m high and has three different routes of varying difficulty. Most activities last from 4-6 hours. These small islands just off the town are often called Moldivene by the city s inhabitants. From the 15th of July to the 15th of August there are also daily guided tours of the caves by Troll Church in Fræna. The tour lasts approximately 4 hours. The Troll church consists of three exciting limestone caves with underground streams and waterfalls. Here there is a beautiful waterfall that drops 14 meters down into a white marble swimming pool. Gallerys and crafts Adventurous at Skaret At Skaret, ten minutes by car from Molde,you will find Skarstua, Klokkargården and Lysgården. Skaret is a great starting point for those who want to experience norwegian nature, culture and craft traditions. Klokkargården houses, and skaret crafts are to be found where there are ten craftsmen making the different products, ranging from clothing, jewelry, and soaps, to timber products. In Lysgården they make candles. Skaret also has a mini farm including horses, goats and rabbits, and in the cafe you can sit back and enjoy local produce. The glass that is made, is also for sale in the workshop. Activity Houses The sea and you... The Atlantic Sea Park is one of Northern Europes largest saltwater aquariums with a variety of fish and marine animals. The aquarium displays marine life from the inner fjord, through the coastal islets and reefs of the secretive Atlantic deep. In the open contact pool one can feel the fish and in the activity pools, one can even take on the exciting marine organisms, and fish crabs using shrimp and clothes-pegs as bait. A daily dive show in the Great Atlantic tank (nearly 4 million gallons salt water) is a spectacular experience.the diver and feeders almost disappear in the herd of ravenous halibut, cod, conger, pollock and catfish. The fish are fed each day at 13.00pm and the penguins are fed at 14.30. Here you can find obstacle courses, slides, ballpools, climbing walls, bike tracks and much more! Mountain Trips Spacious walks in the most beautiful valley! Join a spectacular hike with professional guides. In the Inner Valley, often called the most beautiful valley, you can climb the characteristic Innerdalstårnet to1452 m.o.s, along with experienced tour guides. The trip can be completed without climbing experience, and can be taken as a day trip or overnight stay with dinner in the inner valley. Then it is just about time to lace up your mountain shoes and take the most beautiful hike- arranged in three degrees of difficulty. The mountain bus from Åndalsnes to Vengedalen starts on July the 1st and runs until the 30th of September2011. The tour of Romsdalseggen provides stunning views. As one travels along, the ridges and peaks appear one by one: King, Queen, Romsdalshorn, Store Trolltind, Store Venjestind. And not to mention the Troll Wall with peaks like jagged troll teeth. WEB: www.visitandalsnes.com Meditative Hiking Every Thursday throughout the summer 3-hour meditative walks can be arranged, meeting at 10.00am outside the tourist information in Sylte in Valldal. You must register the day before. The trip will be arranged according to the number of participants, and can be affected by seasonal variations and weather conditions. For example, with heavy rain we go to a place where we can enjoy food and meditation under the shelter of a hut roof. Join a guided tour to a peak such as Kolåstinden and get an airy and memorable experience. The association offers a variety of nature walks throughout the year, for children, youth and seniors. Climbing is an activity that is suitable for everyone, regardless of difficulty level. Maybe this is the summer when you should try it, we work within a safe and general framework. Activities Mountain hiking weekend in Geiranger From the 19th - 21st of August, Hotel Utsikten organizes weekend summit view hiking both Saturday and Sunday. Around the Geiranger Fjord there are great summit stretches such as Vindsåshornet and Gietfonnegga maybe they shall receive a visit from you this summer! Central to this hall there is the rebuilt wreck of the round the world Saga Siglar Viking ship which sank in the Mediterranean in 1992. We can also see other great items from Ragnar Thorseths many adventures, such as ship models, photographs, maps, tools and equipment. Also learn about Håholmen history, and watch a fascinating film about Ragnar Thorseth adventurous experiences from the Viking-ship voyages. LOCATION: Norddal WEB: www.trolldans.no Hunting and F ishing Hunting and fishing enthusiasts can tend to their interests here in Stordal. Here you can find deer hunting, salmon fishing, trout fishing, sea fishing, and small game hunting. The activities can be combined with guided mountain tours. LOCATION: Stordal WEB: www.stordalsferien.no Coastal adventure Gunnabuda Gunnabuda offers sea kayaking for beginners and for those who are more experienced. You can also take a trip on the fjord in Gunnabuda Viking ship Langvin. Here you can rent bikes, and you can get a tour of Gunnabuda, including a stop by the old workers top floor flats. Otherwise, we recommend a hike to top of the mountain Skulen, with panoramic views from the City of Hustadvika! This is efficient and gentle exercise activity with staves picked out by no other than the earlier running Queen, Ingrid Kristiansen. Town Experiences Skjærgard cruise See Ålesund from a different side, with views from a small islands perspective. One of 620 degrees North s cruises offers a trip from Ålesund to the Devold factory, which is the museum and factory outlets for brands such as Devold, Bergans, Kosta Boda and Orrefors. Take a safari booklet when you go aboard the Sundbåt. Answer the questions in the booklet by going on a safari around the islands inland, Gomalandet, Church of Norway and Northern Norway. The answers can be found by looking at the houses, buildings, signs, using the map, guessing a bit - or asking someone nicely for help. You can purchase your ticket onboard. You could also buy a multipurpose ticket that will be holepunched for everyone in your party. This may also be used at a later date. Only cash is accepted onbard the boat. From here you get fantastic views of the city, islands and out towards the majestic alps. To get you up to Aksla you can either take the 418 steps from the park, or drive the road Borgund Fjordveien /Fjelltun which will take you straight up. LOCATION: Stordal WEB: www.josvoll.com Pastures in Innerdalen At Renndølsetra in Innerdalen one can meet cows, goats, calves and chickens in a great landscape with waterfalls and mountains, there are also nice hiking routes. Museums/Experience centres Living museum... Romsdals museum is a town and village museum in Molde centre. The museum consists of about 35 houses, which show Romsdal traditions and way of life from 1600 to the 1900s. The houses have been collected from when the museum began in 1912, and the area is divided into several sections. A few farm houses have also been collected from their own pasture environment, including a chapel which is used for weddings. The area also houses a picturesque duck pond and a stage space which is used annually during Molde Jazz. Romsdal Museum provides guided tours, around Tresfjordstua, Holtstua, Hammervollstua, Eidestua and Erik Palgården Garden. Romsdalsmuseet also has a city street, a Molde in mini format as it would have been before the Great Fire of 1916 and the bombing in 1940. The street consists of six houses, and one of the houses holds Mali s Cafe which is open during the summer months. Romsdalsmuseet also has several other locations, including Fisheries Museum at Hjertøya. LOCATION: Molde WEB: www.romsdalsmuseet.no Gjemnes Museum This building museum consists of part used objects from Teigen farm in Skeidsdalen, its interior boasting the 1880s, and Fagerlia school; presented as the school would have been in 1886. Teigen consists of farmhouses and outbuildings. The houses were moved from the croft Litj-Ranheim in 1884. Particularly interesting for us today is that those who lived here until 1982, made unusually few changes and modernization of buildings and furnishings. LOCATION: Gjemnes WEB: www.nordmore.museum.no Ivar Aasen Centre Ivar Aasen center is a documentation and experience center for the New Norwegian written culture. It provides experiences and thoughts about the language. Regular guided tours are held during the summer season, with tours such as architecture and special tours for children who are members of tunkatten Lurivar. The visitors are guided through a unique quayside with pristine interior and can see the exhibition on the production of dried fish occurring in the traditional manner. Museums/Experience centres Geiranger Fjord is a unique World Heritage Area. But why are the mountains so high and the fjord so deep? How could people survive through the winter on those lonely ledges? What flowers can only thrive in the marshes under the mountains? The wonder is great and the questions are many when you re visiting the distinctive nature and culture along the fjords. The Norwegian Fjord Centre take it upon themselves to answer these questions and many, many more. The museum folds in and around Møre og Romsdal and collects, preserves and exhibits equipment, tools, artifacts, literature, photography related to the agriculture and agricultural industry in the county. In addition to the fixed exhibitions, including large and small objects from agricultural history in the county, you can also see the traveling exhibition Kystgeita in Selje during the summer period. The fort is well preserved and has an exciting story close to our time. LOCATION: Veøya, Molde kommune WEB: www.romsdalsmuseet.no Runde Environmental Centre At Runde environmental center you can see the exhibition of the so-called Runde Treasure - founded by the Dutch merchant ship Akerendam with a crew of 200 which was wrecked off the Møre coast in 1725. The ship was loaded with merchandise and 19 chests of gold and silver money which would be used for procurement in East Asia. In 1972 two Swedish and Norwegian divers found the ship with objects amounting to 57,000 coins just outside of Runde, and this year everyone can see the exhibition of the Runde treasure. The exhibition and cafe are open every day from. 12pm-17pm, 1st of June - 15th of August. (July the 2nd is closed due to events). Museums/Experience centres Meet the wind on Smøla Guri Centre The Guri Centre is a new adventure, and viewing centre with the state of the art exhibition Meetings with the wind as one of the main attractions. Smøla has a wind farm, and the exhibition is a great oppurtunity to see and experience the rest of Smøla. The presentation consists of audio guides, animations, interactive stations and original articles binding the stories together. At the centre you can also find a large outdoor amphitheater seating about 1,000 spectators. The performance of Mrs. Guri of Edøy is performed in July. The Guri Centre has very special architecture made of untreated larch which will turn grey over time and a facade of Plexiglas. The centre is an attraction in itself with a spectacular panoramic view and a facade that lights up in a range of different colours after dark. The centre also houses features such as offices, a cafe and a waiting room for passers by. Here the flour is made from oats, barley, rye, wheat, spelt, and peas. There is a cafe in the same location as the mill. An important goal for the yard is to preserve and maintain older types of techniques and craftsmanship. The yard is open to the public all year round during normal business hours. Here you can see the preserved interior of Pharmacy Garden from 1907. The center has permanent and temporary exhibitions on three floors. Here one can see the breadth of Norwegian Art Nouveau / Art Nouveau in everything from advertising to jewellery, in addition to several multimedia performances. Art Museum KUBE isthe countys gallery. The museum emphasizes different artistic expressions with gravity from mid-norway. The museums profile is local, national and international. The main courtyard of the museum shows a coastal farm environment, suchas it was in the 17 - the 1800s. Here they show the house, storehouse and smokehouse from different periods. The sea section shows fishermen and several boat representing the coastal culture, and fish farmers life and work. Listerbåt and old goat boats have also been well preserved. The museum also has its own archaeological department, with artifacts and documentation from Fosna culture. In the 1930s, Romsdal villages began to receive payment from major clothing wholesalers and business people in the cities. Romsdal called Norway s clothes chamber, had a position that has remained for decades. To meet the demand for labor they annual imported around. 100 seamstrisses. Oddfred Tokles clothing factory was in operation from 1938 to 1982. The house is built with tilskjæreri in the basement, sysal the first floor, an apartment for factory-owner with his family on another floor and flats for employees in the attic. Food Botanical garden Svinvik arboretum is a botanical garden where you can find 450 species of Rhododendrons, majestic cypress trees and exotic aromas in a fairytale like landscape garden.
