Warwick Public Schools High School English/Language Arts Summer Reading Program Book Requirements The purpose of the Warwick English/Language Arts Summer Reading Program is to encourage and to instill a love of reading. For this reason, all students entering grades 9, 10, 11 are to read one book of their choosing before returning to school in the fall. This book Must be approved by the parent/guardian. Must be at least 150 pages long. Must be at the student s reading level. Must be one that the student has never read before on his/her own or in class. Must not be one that the student has read in the 2011 summer school session. Must not have been made into a film (or film equivalent). Must not be one of the books read to satisfy the requirements of any other department s (e.g. social studies, science) summer reading. NOTE: Honors-level students will complete a separate and specific assignment. * A list of suggested authors follows and/or refer to the following website: www.teenreads.com. Writing Requirements You have two requirements. The first is to take notes on the graphic organizer provided ("High School Summer Reading Book Notes"). The second is to write a constructed response following the directions on the "High School Summer Reading Constructed Response Directions." Both the graphic organizer and the written response must be submitted by the September 6 due-date. Taken together, these two assignments will count as the first test grade of the quarter. 5-11 1
