Enochs High School Upcoming Events Volume 9, Issue 7 March 7, 2016 Modesto City Schools College Nights, March 8, 6:30 Modesto High School or March 15, 6:30 Downey High School-This event is highly recommended for college-bound students in grades 9-11 and their parents. There will be a college information presentation, visit with various reps from MJC, CSU, UC, UOP (March 8), St.Mary s (March 15). Choose the date most convenient for you. MJC Advising Workshop-March 8 or March 10 periods 1, 2 or 3. MJC counselors will be in the Career Center to meet with students who completed their application and assessment testing. They will develop an abbreviated education plan to plan out classes for the fall semester. MJC Hispanic Education Conference-Saturday, March 19, 8:00-2:00 MJC s East Campus, Performing Arts Center Registration begins at 7:30 and conference runs from 8:00-2:00. Free admission. Must be a senior with a 2.5 GPA and have a parent who graduated from the PIQE program. Deadline to submit application is March 18. See Mrs. Brogan for an application. Valley Builders Exchange Scholarship-Applicant must be a son or daughter of an employee of a Valley Builders Exchange and your major must be in a field related to the construction industry. Modesto Masonic Lodge Scholarship-4 $500 scholarships available to students with a 2.5 minimum GPA and planning to attend a 2 year or 4 year college or trade school. John Hertile Vocational Scholarship ($1000)-must be attending an agricultural, vocational or technical program. Deck Hogin Music Scholarship-$500 scholarship awarded to one student voted to be the most deserving n Enochs instrumental band. Deadline to apply is April 11. Ricky Miranda Memorial Scholarship Ricky was a 2010 graduate and varsity wrestler at Enochs. He overcame extreme adversity and received a full scholarship to attend college. Unfortunately, Ricky s struggles were too much for him to bear and he passed away March 19, 2011. A $500 scholarship has been provided by the Brooks Family and the wrestling program to a student planning on attending a 2 year or 4 year college. See Mrs. Brogan for an application. Glenn Davis Basketball and Track Scholarship-3 $1000 scholarships available to Enochs students who have participated in either boys/girls basketball or track and one other sport. Repeated Scholarships Anthony Brucia Success Scholarship-5 $1000- scholarships awarded to students who have made a turnaround in their lives. Jon Walther Memorial Teaching Scholarship $1000 scholarship for a senior graduating from a Modesto City Schools comprehensive high school whose goal is to become a teacher. Can attend any college or university including a junior college, but must be enrolled in a full-time program that leads to a teaching degree. Deadline to apply is April 4. MTA Cecil Curfman Memorial Scholarship Six $1000 scholarships will be awarded to a graduating senior who is a son or daughter of an individual who is a member of the California Teachers Association. John Hollis Christian Public Servants Scholarship-$800 scholarships available to students with a minimum 3.0 GPA preparing for a career in public service (fire safety, law enforcement, teaching, etc) Pick up application from Mrs. Brogan. Modesto Symphony Guild Music Scholarship-$2500 scholarship to an instrumentalist who currently participates in their high school music program and plans to major or minor in music. Must have a 3.5 GPA. Deadline to apply is March 15. Womens Auxiliary Scholarship-Multiple scholarships available to seniors of African American descent that have a 2.5 GPA or higher. Deadline is March 31. See Mrs. Brogan for an application. Eleanor C. Scott Scholarship-$500 scholarship for a physically handicapped senior. Conditions include but are not limited to cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, spinal cord injuries, and juvenile arthritis. Deadline to apply is March 18. Cabrillo Civic Clubs of California-$500 scholarships will be awarded to students who are of Portuguese descent, have a minimum of a 3.5 GPA and participated in a minimum of 3 extracurricular activities while in high school. Central Valley Opportunity Center 6 $1500 scholarships will be awarded to students who are from a farm worker or low-income family. Tzu Chi Scholars-$1000 scholarship will be awarded to a student with financial need, academic achievement, and community involvement. This application was emailed via Naviance. Deadline to apply is April 15. National Defense Transportation Association-Numerous $1000 scholarships will be awarded. The NDTA is looking for students who want to attend a 2 year or 4 year college. A variety of majors will be considered for this scholarship. See Mrs. Brogan for an application. Deadline to apply is March 12. Modesto Garden Club- Six $1500 scholarship will be awarded to students enrolled in the MJC agriculture program or accepted into an agriculture or horticulture program at a 4-year college or university. Email gardenscholarship@gmail.com to receive application. Deadline to apply is April 1. Important Reminders Please check you college portals to see if you have anything in your To Do List. Make sure you sent your SAT/ACT scores to the schools you applied. Some schools may request a copy of your transcript with 7th semester grades. If you have made a decision about where you are going to college next year, make sure you accept admission and pay any enrollment fees by May 1. You will also need to apply for housing and sign up for the earliest orientation dates to ensure the best pick of classes.
