The controller is sealed and weatherproof (Nema 3R) Its purpose is to control the pump system and displays the operating status of the system. Each control is equipped with two control inputs: One allows for the Dry Well Probes sensor to prevent dry run or pump off conditions the other allows for a float, pressure, or remote control switch to be used. Once the Dry Well Probe sensor trips, the controller will shut down the pump system for 20 minutes to allow the well to recover, then it will automatically restart the system. The controller is equipped with overload, underload, & reverse polarity protection. Each contol come with Variable Speed Control which allows the pump speed to be adjusted to reduce flow rate by approximately 30%. Maximum Power Point Tracking for Solar Operation. Battery Low Voltage disconnect and auto-restart after battery has recovered. Motor & Controller are 88% Efficient. In properly constructed wells the amount of sand, clay, etc. is within the tolerance of the pump. A concentration of solids greater than 2% by volume may cause blockage in the pump or the drop pipe, especially at low flow rates. Do not use the pump to develop newly drilled wells. Pump Cable & Splice Standard double jacketed submersible cable 3 wire + ground is recommended. Standard rubber tape with Scotch Kote or heat shrink splice kits are recommended. Drop Pipe The PS200 pump ends are fitted with an 1.25 inch outlet. If the water is dirty, consider a smaller size drop pipe to increase the flow velocity. This helps exhaust solid particles and prevent accumulation in the pipe. When considering reduced pipe size, consult a friction loss chart. We do recommend a torque arrestor. The controller is sealed and weatherproof (Nema 3R) Its purpose is to control the pump system and displays the operating status of the system. Each control is equipped with two control inputs: One allows for the Dry Well Probes sensor to prevent dry run or pump off conditions the other allows for a float, pressure, or remote control switch to be used. Once the Dry Well Probe sensor trips, the controller will shut down the pump system for 20 minutes to allow the well to recover, then it will automatically restart the system. The controller is equipped with overload, underload, & reverse polarity protection. Each contol comes with Variable Speed Control which allows the pump speed to be adjusted to reduce flow rate by approximately 30%. Maximum Power Point Tracking for Solar Operation. Battery Low Voltage disconnect and auto-restart after battery has recovered. In properly constructed wells the amount of sand, clay, etc. is within the tolerance of the pump. A concentration of solids greater than 2% by volume may cause blockage in the pump or the drop pipe, especially at low flow rates. Do not use the pump to develop newly drilled wells. Pump Cable & Splice Standard double jacketed submersible cable 3 wire + ground is recommended. Standard rubber tape with Scotch Kote or heat shrink splice kits are recommended. Drop Pipe The PS200 pump ends are fitted with an 1.25 inch outlet. If the water is dirty, consider a smaller size drop pipe to increase the flow velocity. This helps exhaust solid particles and prevent accumulation in the pipe. When considering reduced pipe size, consult a friction loss chart. We do recommend a torque arrestor. In properly constructed wells the amount of sand, clay, etc. is within the tolerance of the pump. A concentration of solids greater than 2% by volume may cause blockage in the pump or the drop pipe, especially at low flow rates. Do not use the pump to develop newly drilled wells. Pump Cable & Splice Standard double jacketed submerisble cable 3 wire + ground is recommended. Standard rubber tape with Scotch Kote or heat shrink splice kits are recommended. Drop Pipe The PS1200 pump ends are fitted with an 1.25 inch outlet. If the water is dirty, consider a smaller size drop pipe to increase the flow velocity. This helps exhaust solid particles and prevent accumulation in the pipe. When considering reduced pipe size, consult a friction loss chart. We do recommend a torque arrestor. Pump Type Dimensions (inches) A B C D Emax BSP Minimum Internal Diameter of Borehole Weight System Performance An irradiation value and the required head in meters are given for a certain solar pumping system. By connecting the point for the power output in Wp of the solar array with an irradiation value, move vertical upwards to the intersection with the required head curve, then horizontal to the left to find the daily quantity of water that can be pumped ( m³/day) Or the other way: By starting from the daily required water amount horizontally to the intersection of the required head, then vertically down to the intersection with the expected solar irradiation, then horizontally to the left to find the required output of the solar array. Instantaneous Output From the above curves, the maximum quantity of water in m³/h for a given solar array size in Wp and head in meters / ft can be found. Add at least 25% to the DC power to account for dirt, heat and other losses of the solar array. Pump Centrifugal multistage direct coupled on a LORENTZ brushless submersible motor. The pump is made from stainless steel with water lubricated rubber bearings. A non return valve is included. Motor The LORENTZ submersible motor, type EC 1200-C is a 2 pole synchronous brushless DC motor. Slide ring bearing and ceramic trust bearings are water lubricated. The motor raw earth magnets are hermetically sealed in stainless steel and encapsulated in synthetic resin. The motor is pressure compensated and there are no practical depth limitations for submergence. No electronics are inside the motor and the entire motor is water filled. PS4000 Solar Submersible Pump System System Sizing From the instantaneous performance curves of the pumps, the quantity of water in m³/h for a given power input in Watt and head in meters / ft can be found. Daily Flow rate: Multiply the hourly flow rate of the selected lift and power input of the pump with the peak sun hours of your location. Add 30 to 40% Daily peak flow hours if a tracking system is used to mount the solar array. For these large solar pumps it is strongly recommended as it reduced the water cost considerably. Ask for ETATRACK information. Solar array size: Add about 30% to the DC power to account for dirt, heat, cable and other losses of the solar array. AC PowerPack for LORENTZ Pump System AC-DC converter to power PS200/ PS600/PS1200/EP600 Pump systems from a generator or utility power. Application The Problem Some solar pumps may not provide sufficient flow under all conditions, especially in unusually cloudy weather or if sufficient storage is not provided. The Solution LORENTZ AC Power Pack allows the pump to be powered by an AC generator or commercial utility power. The solar array remains connected. If the sun comes out, less power is drawn from the AC source. A common application is for a portable genset (gasoline generator) to run a well pump. When the generator is stopped (or runs out of fuel) the pump automatically returns to solar power when the sunshine is sufficient. No manual switching is required. The Power Pack will power the pump to its full capacity. With some systems, it will produce a greater flow rate than you will see with solar power. Mounting Mount the AC Power Pack close to the pump controller, in a vertical position. Cover the unit from direct rainfall. You will find four mounting brackets in a plastic bag inside the enclosure. Warning Power Pack must be protected from solar heat, especially direct mid-day sun. Mount it in the shade. If there is not a shady location, make a shade from sheet metal. Allow free air circulation around the cooling fins on the back of the enclo-sure. For wall mounting, use spacers to stand it out, so the cooling fins do not touch the wall. AC PowerPack WIRING SIZES All wires must be #14 AWG (2.5mm²) or larger. AC INPUT VOLTAGE SELECTION Selection must be made by connecting a wire from terminal 1 to either 2 or 3, as indicated on the terminal label. For 115V AC, connect 1-2. For 230V AC, connect 1-3. GROUNDING Bond the metal enclosure to the ground connections of the AC power source and the solar power system. See your pump s instruction manual. AC POWER SOURCE Install a 15A circuit breaker at the power source or distribution box. DC OUTPUT VOLTAGE SELECTION Selection must be made by connecting a wire from terminal 6 to either 4 or 5, as indicated on the terminal label. For 75V DC, connect 4-6 (for PS200/PS600/ EP600). For 110V DC, connect 5-6 (for PS1200). Operation Connect the AC power source and turn on the Power Pack AFTER it has been connected to the PS200/PS600/PS1200 or EP600 series controller. When the controller and the Power Pack are turned on, the System ON light should show on the controller, and the pump should start. When the Power Pack is turned OFF (or its AC source disconnected), the solar array will remain connected. When the pump is running on solar and the Power Pack is switched ON or OFF, the sudden transition may surprise the pump controller and cause the pump to stop. This is not a fault. It will restart automatically in about 2 minute. If the AC power source is from the utility line (not a generator), it is best to turn OFF the Power Pack or its AC supply when it is not needed. Otherwise, the Power Pack will draw a small amount of power all the time. Switching can be done automatically using a timer switch on the AC line. Timer switches of many kinds are available from suppliers of electrical, swimming pool and irrigation equipment. Once the Power Pack is turned OFF it will take up to 50 seconds for the POWER ON LED to be OFF. This indicates that there is still voltage stored in the capacity. AC INPUT Connect AC power to terminals L and N. (For a 230V connection, N does NOT indicate neutral.) SOLAR POWER IN Connect the + and wires from the solar array disconnect switch to the SOLAR POWER IN terminals. If the solar pump was previously installed without this device, the wires will need to be removed from the POWER IN terminals of the solar pump controller or from the disconnect switch, and diverted to the Power Pack. DC POWER OUT Connect two wires from the DC POWER OUT + and terminals to the POWER IN + and terminals in the solar pump controller. INTERNAL FUSE There is a 10A fuse in the upper left. This fuse should blow only if there is an electrical fault in the Power Pack, or the pump controller, or the wiring between them. It will NOT blow if the pump is short-circuited or overloaded. (In that case, the pump controller will stop the pump.) Spare fuses are included in the parts bag. Additional fuses are available from electronic suppliers (5 20mm, 10A, time-delay). If the fuse continues to blow, the fault must be found and repaired. Substitution of a higher-rated fuse or bypassing the fuse will void the warranties of both the AC Power Pack AND the pump controller. 57 www.awwasc.com

SUN SWITCH light-sensor Application General The LORENTZ SUN SWITCH is basically to use for the Lorentz pump controllers but also good for any general application where you need to switch depending on solarlight intensity. It is an automatic working unit that supplies itself with power from its small solar cells. It is designed to work outside and protected by a IP64. The Problem Some solar pumps (e.g. centrifugals) are only pumping above a minimum solar irradiation. If there is not enough irradiation, the pump starts to rotate but does not deliver any water. In this case the pump can heat up and the lifetime gets shorter. The Solution LORENTZ SUN SWITCH light sensor allows to set an irradiation level at which the pump is switched on. The Advantages reduced wear on the pump and motor since the pump only starts when it will continue to run no water heat up inside the pump due to too not sufficient power in the morning or other low light situations where the pump spinns but cannot produce a flow up to the delivery point setting of min. pump flow rates for irrigation systems etc Practice example A solar pump starts slow in the morning and only the first plants in an irrigation string would be watered while the middle and last ones are not. Therefore the pump should only be started once a minimum flow rate is reached in order to insure that all plants are getting the same amount of water at the same time. Installation Warning This device is to be installed, connected and serviced by qualified personnel only. Never use this device in connection with AC Power. Mounting Mount the SUN SWITCH light-sensor close to the solar panel. The device must stay in the same orientation as the solar panels. For mounting the SUN SWITCH light-sensor on the frame of the solar panel you can use the provided C-bracket to clamp it to the frame. Alternatively you can drill two holes into the frame and fix the SUN SWITCH light-sensor with machine screws. www.awwasc.com 60
Connecting The SUN SWITCH has two potential-free double throw contacts. Contact rating Max. voltage: 250V AC / 220V DC Max. current: 2A Max power: 60W / 62.5VA Operation The contacts are in the OFF-state in the drawing. To operate the SUN SWITCH with a PS-Controller, connect one COM and NO to the terminals 4 and 5 of the PS-Controller (COM and NC). The polarity does not matter. In this case, the PS-controller will start the pump when the irradiation is sufficient. It is also possible to connect a tank float in a storage tank in addition. In the following example the float is closed when up (tank full). Connect the SUN SWITCH light-sensor to the PS controller and mount it at the solar modules. The scale of the adjustment wheel starts at 15% to 55%. 100% means 1000W/m². So the SUN SWITCH light sensor can set the pump startup point between 150W/m² to 550W/m². The hysteresis of the SUN SWITCH light-sensor is about 40W/m². It is useful to make the exact setting in the afternoon, when the irradiation becomes less and less. Set the level to minimum (15%) and watch the flow rate of the pump. When it reduces to a flow which is not reasonable anymore, increase the setting until the pump stops. Due to the hysteresis, the pump will now start with a little bit more power and stops at the set irradiation. When the SUN SWITCH light-sensor allows the pump to operate, the ACTIVE LED lights up. If the Pump starts too early or too late it is possible to modify the startup value at any time during operation. In other words, the pump will only run if the irradiation is sufficient and the tank is not full. A lot of other combinations to start or stop the pump are possible with series or parallel connections with pressure switches, remote switches and so on. With the second switch it is for example possible to start a generator when the irradiation is not sufficient. Use at least 0.5mm² cable. For long wiring (<10m) use shielded cable. Refer to the PSXXX manual for additional information about this.
