Introduction

Work-Flows Two workflows have been introduced: EM expert EDA expert CST EM approach allows EM expert to utilize 3D EM simulation for SI/PI analysis of complex PCBs/packages CST/Cadence integrated workflow allows EDA expert to take advantage of 3D EM simulation with minimum knowledge

Cadence 3D PCB Import Choose the EDA template. The project templates customize the default settings for particular types of applications. The PCB will be scaled automatically to the unit defined by the template.

CST Layout Database The import dialog shows information about the imported design.

Stack-Up Editor Check and change the material properties and thickness of the layers. A solder mask can be added.

Parts Editor Allows to specify parameters for supported components (R, L and C)

Customized Selection The PCB import functionality of CST MICROWAVE STUDIO is highly configurable. The whole design as well as only certain parts can be imported. Full Design Net of Interest Area of Interest

Import Complete Design To import the complete design just click OK in the import dialog.

PCB Import can be re-opened for edits PCB Import settings can be edited Different settings or nets selection can be applied

Import Selected Nets (ideal for SI analysis) The selected nets are highlighted in the design view. First select the nets to be imported. The distance included in the import can be specified.

CST MWS: Mesh Settings Default values, very accurate and slow simulation time Higher values, accurate and fast simulation time

CST MWS: Simulation Settings CST Acceleration as well as GPU hardware may be required

CST MWS: 1D Results Thanks to GPU technology, CST MWS simulation time can be dramatically reduced.
