14 Connecting Devices In order to use an ios remote with the prompter, they must be connect together in the same remote session. ios Remotes can use blue tooth or wifi. The selection is done automatically by the devices. There is no way to choose which technology to use. In order to ensure the either blue tooth or wifi is used, the other technology must be turned off. To ensure that wifi is used, turn off blue tooth. To ensure that blue tooth is used, turn off wifi. For devices to connect, they must be part of the same session. A session must be started on one device and joined by other devices. 1. Open the remote settings by pressing the Settings button on the title bar, the Remote menu item and then the ios Remote option. 2. Press the Host ios Group button. 3. On additional prompters or a remote, press the Join ios Group button. 4. On each device that is joining the session, select the hosting device from the list of ios remotes. 5. Remote Settings ios Remotes have a couple of settings that can affect the functionality of the remote. To display the settings, press the Settings button. Remote Heartbeat - The heartbeat determines how often the remote requests an update from the host prompter. The update contains information about the state of the prompter including the scroll position, play status, speed, counter progress and more. If a heart beat is not required, enter a zero for this value. Depending on the integrity of the communication between the devices, too fast of updates can flood the communication and between the devices and signals may be delayed or missed completely. 15 PromptRemote Additional Settings The PromptRemote app has a few options and settings unique to the PromptRemote app. Show Remote Group - Displays the list of connected devices and options to host or join an ios group. Files - Displays a list of files that have been loaded on the remote app. Once files have been transferred to the remote, they can be loaded on the prompter device remotely. ios File Sharing - Provides a way to share files between ios devices. Formatted files can be sent directly to ios devices. For more information on ios File Sharing, see ios File Sharing. Browse Web Server - Used to browse a web server hosted by a prompter. Formatted files can be downloaded to the remote, or the entire database can be downloaded and all files will be available in the Files dialog. For more information on browsing a web server see Web Server File Sharing. Using Scrolling Text Using the scrolling text on the remote provides a way for the remote to display the scrolling text as it appears on the prompter. A single tap on the scrolling text will control the playback in the same way it does on the prompter. Scrolling the text will scroll the text on the prompter. The communication technology used to communicate with the devices is not adequate to send files. It is necessary to use one of the file sharing methods to transfer files to the remote. To send a single file to the remote use the ios File Sharing. To send all files to the remote, use the Browse Web Server option and download all files. The files will then be available in the list of files. The scrolling text must be enabled in the settings in order for the text to appear on the remote. Blue Tooth vs Wifi Since the communication technology will automatically select blue tooth or wifi, it is generally not necessary to worry about how the devices are connected. It is sometimes necessary to ensure that a specific technology is used. Blue Tooth - A good solution when there is no wifi network available and a short distance between remote and prompter. Wifi - A good solution when a viable local wifi network is available and more distance is required between the remote and prompter. Trouble Shooting Can Not Connect Devices! Host does not appear in list of devices to join Be sure all devices are on the same network, have wifi and/or blue tooth enabled. Try reseting devices, perhaps an antenna problem. 15 of 31

16 Try disabling one communication method to force the use of the other. For example, turn off blue tooth to see if wifi connection will connect, or turn off wifi to see if blue tooth will connect. Remote is not Responsive! Devices are connected but not communicating adequately Try connecting with a different method. Try connecting with blue tooth if using wifi and visa versa. This may isolate the problem to one communication technology. Try reducing the heart beat rate. Try a different network. Try adhoc network. If the local network is not communicating adequately, creating an adhoc network to join may improve performance. 16 of 31
