1 Executive Summary 1 Executive Summary The Huawei server management plug-in for Microsoft System Center is server management software designed for Microsoft System Center. With the plug-in, users can manage Huawei servers using the Microsoft System Center. This plug-in simplifies and streamlines management. Keywords: server, device management, Microsoft System Center 1
2 Plug-in Overview 2 Plug-in Overview 2.1 Application Scenarios 2.1 Application Scenarios The Huawei server management plug-in (for Microsoft System Center) applies to the following scenarios: 1) Server Operation and Management The Huawei server management plug-in works with Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) to monitor the server running status. 2) Server Configuration Management The Huawei server management plug-in works with Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) to implement rapid software deployment and updates. 3) Virtualization Environment The Huawei server management plug-in works with Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manger (SCVMM) and System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) to provide virtual machine (VM) management functions, for example, VM migration. 2
3 Plug-in Features 3 Plug-in Features 3.1 System Management Architecture 3.2 Functions 3.3 Compatibility 3.1 System Management Architecture 3.1.1 SCOM and SCVMM The SCOM provides a graphical user interface (GUI) for administrators to monitor faults and alarms of servers on the network. As shown in Figure 3-1: The Microsoft SCOM agent obtains information about server operation management through the Huawei WMI extension library, or the Huawei server BMC provides the SNMP agent service on the server side. The Microsoft SCOM interacts with servers through the Huawei-customized management pack on the management side. Figure 3-1 Operation management architecture (SCOM) 3
3 Plug-in Features As shown in Figure 3-2, the SCOM instructs the SCVMM to manage VMs. For example, when detecting a specific fault on a server, the SCOM instructs the SCVMM to migrate the VMs on the faulty server to another server. Figure 3-2 VM management architecture (SCOM+SCVMM) 3.1.2 SCCM The SCCM provides a comprehensive solution to change and configuration management. With the SCCM, enterprises can quickly provide software and updates for Microsoft and non-microsoft users at low costs to implement batch deployment and updates.
