ATG Technical Approval with Certification Approval and Certification Body Fastening system HILTI DX-KWIK & DX-BARDAGE ATG 13/1824 Approval holder: Hilti Belgium nv Z.4 Broekooi 220 B-1730 Asse Tel.: +32 (0)800 99 595 Fax.: +32 (0)800 95 018 Website: www.hilti.be E-mail: be.customerservice@hilti.com Valid from 12/02/2013 until 11/02/2016 Belgian Construction Certification Association Rue d Arlon, 53 1040 Brussels www.bcca.be info@bcca.be 1 Objective and scope of the technical approval This technical approval is based on the favourable evaulation of the product or system by an independent approval body designated by UBAtc asbl for a specific application. The outcomes of this evaluation are described in this approval document. This text identifies the product(s) used in the system and determines the expected performance of the product, in order to enable the production, use and maintenance of product(s) or system(s), produced as specified in this approval document. Technical approval is accompanied by regular inspections and adjustments in line with technical advancements, if such modifications are appropriate. Technical approval must be reviewed every three years. For technical approval to be renewed, the manufacturer must provide evidence at all times that he is continuing to take necessary steps to achieve the performance standards described in the approval document. This monitoring is vital in terms of ensuring that the product reliably conforms to this technical approval. This task is assigned to a certification body designated by the UBAtc. On-going checks and statistical interpretation of results enable the associated certification to achieve a high level of reliability. 2 Limitation of use The fastening elements which are subject to traction are located in the compression zone of the concrete. The use of the fastening elements is limited to the connections which, upon completion of the construction, are only subjected to stresses which are negligible if changes in temperature occur such as: fastening of profiled steel sheet with external thermal insulation (e.g. non-ventilated flat roof); fastening of profiled steel sheet such as this which adjoins the inner climate in the case of double facade covering with insulation in-between; fastening of the profiled steel sheet within a heated building (e.g. floors). 3 Durability - corrosion The durability of the connection depends on the application, the climate, the air pollution and the protection of the sheet to be fastened. The intended use only comprises fasteners and connections, which are not directly exposed to external weather conditions or moist atmospheres (see also information provided in the Hilti technical literature). The approval and certification for conformity to the approval are independent of tasks conducted individually. The contractor and architect remain fully responsible for the conformity of the preparation with the provisions contained in the specifiations.

This system combines drill fixing with direct fastening using powder-actuated fastening tool: after pre-drilling a small hole in the concrete, the fastening element is driven into position. The approval relates to the aforementioned system, the technology of the design and construction but not the quality of implementation on site nor the calculation of the number of necessary fastenings per plate. 4.2.2Requirements 4.2.2.1Drills and bits Drill : for example: TE 4-A, TE 6-A, TE 7-A, TE 7 Bit : step shank drill bit TX-C 5/23 4.2.2.2Components of powder-actuated fastening system For the fastener NPH2-42 L15 fastening tool fastener guide piston Hilti DX 76 X-76-F-Kwik X-76-P-Kwik DX 76 PTR X-76-F-Kwik-PTR X-76-P-Kwik-PTR DX 750 75/S3 75/NPH2 4.2Materials 4.2.1Fastener Figure 1: Fastener NPH2-42 L15 Cartridge (powder loads) : Hilti 6.8/18M yellow: low/medium blue: medium Type : Shank : Galvanising : Dimensions : Washers : NPH2-42 L15 Hardened carbon steel (58 HRC), in accordance with NBN EN 10132-4/AC Thickness 8-16 microns Shank Ø = 4.5 mm with a conical head Total length L = 46.8 mm (ballistic point) Galvanised steel, DC 01 in accordance with NBN EN 10139 Diameter 15 mm; thickness: 1 mm. All powder-actuated fastening tools are equipped with an energy regulation allowing adjustment of the driving energy (setting range from 1 to 4). 4.2.3Profiled steel sheet Steel quality: S280GD-S350GD in accordance with NBN EN 10346 Thickness: between 0.75 and 2.0 mm. The system of the covering (external sheet, form etc.) does not form part of the approval. 4.3Fabrication and control All elements which form part of the system (powder-actuated fastener, powder-actuated fastening tools and cartridges) are fabricated in the HILTI factories and checked systematically at each stage of the production process. Headquarters: S.A. HILTI, 9494 Schaan, Liechtenstein. ATG 13/1824-2/8

4.4Application The DX-KWIK fastening process consists of 2 steps: 4.4.1Pre-Drilling The pre-drilling consists of drilling a hole of Ø = 5 mm with a step shank drill bit with a length of 23 mm through the profiled steel plate into the concrete. Figure 2 : Pre-drilling of the hole The distances to be respected for the fastening are as follows (figure 5 for facades and figure 6 for roofs) : between the fastener and the edge: 80 mm between two fasteners where two profiled steel sheets are fastened to one support: 80 mm between two fasteners which are positioned orthogonally: 2 x 80 mm. The total maximum thickness of all the profile sheets, including their finishing layers, to be fixed amounts to 5 mm. Figure 5 : Facade covering 4.4.2 The fastening In the second step the fastener is driven through the plate into the pre-drilled bore hole. Figure 3 : Position of fastener before driving k 80 mm; a 80 mm; d 160mm This pre-drilling on the one hand guarantees an anchoring of the nails and on the other hand limits the scattering of the anchoring values. Bearing structures: columns or girders in reinforced concrete. The dimensions of these must amount to at least 160 mm of width and 160 mm of depth in the fastening zone. These limits also apply for the I-shaped girders and hollow concrete slabs. The quality of the concrete can vary from C 20/25 to C 45/55, in accordance with the standard NBN B 15-001. Figure 6 : Roof covering The reinforcement of the concrete (quantity, implementation) meets Belgian standards (standard series NBN EN 1992-1-1) regarding braces and concrete covering among other things. Hitting the prestressing cables or bars must be excluded. Fastening must satisfy the following conditions (Figure 4) : the fastener stand-off (the distance between fastener head and profile sheet) varies between 7.5 mm and 11 mm. both washers must be in contact with one another and with the profiled steel sheet. Figure 4 : Connection with DX-Kwik ATG 13/1824-3/8

4.5Characteristics The number of fastening points is specified using the allowable values stated in table 1 and table 2 (pag.4); for the specification of the allowable forces the Belgian standards and Eurocodes are used The values stated in the tables are based on a statistical analysis of 1,280 results. Table 2: Profiled steel sheet for roof covering (see PDF for diagram) Steel Allowable sheet types of thickness connection S Tensile strength Fz allowable Shear strength Fq allowable The safety factors applied are: S = 2 applied on the characteristic values which are the result of a static load. S = 1.3 applied on the characteristic values which are the result of a dynamic load.
