Whether you want to grow in your career or simply expand your knowledge, the Graduate College at Texas State University-San Marcos can help. We offer nearly 100 specialized graduate degree programs that provide you with the opportunity to improve your life through advanced study, research and creative expression. Texas State has some of the best-known creative writing faculty in the country. The amount of time the faculty members spend working with the students is amazing. My first class here was with Tim O Brien, and he went above and beyond, helping me with my novel, reading rewrites and even extra chapters, and giving me detailed feedback. Saurabh Gupta Creative Writing Master s Student Future Bestselling Author The Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic at Texas State far surpassed my expectations, and the faculty has impressed me. The clinical supervisors amaze me with how much they know and their ability to give straightforward insight and advice for case management. By bringing all this talent together, I feel the communication disorders program will prepare me to be an independent and savvy clinician, and it will help me hit the ground running with a broad background of experience and resources. Rachel Marks Communication Disorders Master s Student Future Speech-Language Pathologist

I chose the graduate program in sociology at Texas State because it is one of the only applied research programs in the state. The faculty are the best. Two Convenient Locations Many of Texas State s graduate programs are offered at both our main campus in San Marcos and at the Round Rock Higher Education Center. Both are conveniently located near Austin, less than two miles from Interstate (IH) 35. University bus service between Austin and San Marcos and San Antonio and San Marcos is available for a small fee. Buses are equipped with wireless Internet access, so you can work while you ride to class. San Marcos Texas State University-San Marcos has overlooked downtown San Marcos for more than 100 years. With its tree-lined streets, 19th century homes and historic town square, San Marcos is steeped in history. But its central location 30 miles south of Austin and 50 miles north of San Antonio on the booming IH-35 corridor has made it a growing city that offers ever-increasing options for shopping, dining and recreation. Our hilly campus is home to 225 buildings. Some, like the redroofed, Victorian-style Old Main, are as old as the university itself. Others are cutting-edge facilities. The Mitte Complex houses a high-tech clean room in its microchip fabrication lab. McCoy Hall, with its corporate atmosphere, provides business students with high-tech classrooms, study rooms and even a stock-trading lab. Our Alkek Library is home to more than 1.4 million printed volumes as well as the Southwestern Writers Collection and Wittliff Gallery of Southwestern & Mexican Photography. Known as the Wittliff Collections, the exhibits showcase rare artifacts and one of the world s most significant collections of Mexican contemporary photographic arts. Round Rock The Round Rock Higher Education Center is located just 20 miles north of Austin in Round Rock. Dating back to the 1850s, Round Rock has deep Texas roots. Today, Round Rock is known more as a bedroom community for those who work in Austin. In recent years, Round Rock has been named one of the nation s safest cities, one of the best communities for young people, and one of the best cities for relocating families. Round Rock is also home to the Dell computers headquarters and Nolan Ryan s AAA baseball club, the Round Rock Express. Classes at the Round Rock Higher Education Center are held in the Avery Building, completed in 2005. This four-story building houses 40 classrooms, five computer classrooms, two open computer labs and four computer lounges as well as a range of student and academic support services. To attend classes at the Round Rock Higher Education Center, you must first apply and be accepted to Texas State University, just as you would to enroll at our main campus in San Marcos. See www.rrhec.txstate.edu for details. The second-largest springs in Texas, home to several endangered species, are located on our campus. The location of the springs makes Texas State the site of world-class research related to the geography and biology of freshwater systems. Receiving scholarships from the Graduate College at Texas State impacted my ability to pursue graduate studies on a very fundamental level. The best part was the fact that I received not one but several scholarships during my tenure at Texas State! I am proud to list these honors on my résumé because it shows how serious Texas State was in helping me achieve my graduate degree.
