Written Student Comments 3450:222 Analytical Geometry Calculus II Prof. Timothy S. Norfolk, Ph.D. 3450:222-002 (Honors) Spring 2013 I thought that this was a great class. It was definitely a challenge, but Dr. Norfolk did a fantastic job teaching the material and making sure we understood it. I enjoyed the course many lots! Great professor! I looked forward to going class every day. Great teacher, probably the best math teacher I ve ever had. It s a difficult but if you pay attention & do all the work, you will pass this & actually learn useful material. Thank you Dr. Norfolk for all that you ve done. Dr. Norfolk is absolutely the best math professor I have ever had. He challenged me every day and encouraged me to try harder than I would have otherwise. He won t settle until everyone understands everything fully. He is my favorite math teacher. He is an extremely smart man. I learned a lot from this professor. I really enjoyed coming to class and the professor was helpful accessible and understanding. He is a bright young man. Wants people to understand material. When it comes to difficulty, he is a sick b*stard, especially when it comes to taking off points for stupid stuff. Excellent course & instructor; one I will recommend to all future students that ask my opinion. Dr. Norfolk is an excellent professor. His calc II class is easily my favorite class and I truly look forward to coming each day. That being said, it is also the most challenging course I have ever taken, but that would not prevent me from taking one of Dr. Norfolk s classes again in a heartbeat. He is the best professor I have ever had. Good teacher. Very helpful if you don t understand something. Explained things thoroughly without falling behind schedule. I learned many lots in this class. 3450:222-003 (Honors) Fall 2010 Well, I guess I m never going to be a bridgebuilder in Russia. Overall a very entertaining class. The brief stories were a good way to alter the class vibe when we began to get stressed. 1

This was an amazing class and I look forward to another semester with Dr. Norfolk in Calc 3. Also, 3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197169399375105820974944 59230781640628620899862803482534211706798 Dr. Norfolk, I really enjoyed taking Calc 2 with you. I think you re an excellent teacher, thus I am taking your Calc 3 course next semester. Good teacher and funny guy. He is willing to help anyone that needs it. Very intelligent, but teaches very fast and material is difficult. Overall great teacher. Dr. Norfolk is the best math instructor I ve had so far. He makes the material easy to understand and grasp. He is very relaxed and humorous. I would recommend him to anyone. You are a great teacher. You present everything very reasonably and keep the class entertaining. Thank you and see you next semester. The course seems disconnected, material is disconnected. Therefore the book we use requires us to skip around in. Other than this nothing else. Excellent teacher. Really taught the class so we could understand it, went over anything we were confused about until we understood. Also added humor to the class, improving the learning process. Dr. Norfolk is an excellent teacher who has a strong grasp of the course material and who always has a fun story to share. If you can take a class taught by him, do it. Dr. Norfolk is my favorite calculus teacher. An awesome professor, a definite first choice when it comes to choosing which math professor to have. The course is difficult, but Dr. Norfolk did an excellent job teaching the material. I made sure to sign up for his Calc 3 class. My mind was blown at least 4x per week. Awesome. Never needed #4. I made sure to sign up for his Calc 3 class. Haven t had a problem understanding content. You won t fall asleep in his class. 3450:222:003 (Honors) Fall 2009 2

Great instructor, awesome class, had a great time, enjoyed going to class. Doctor Norfolk was the best math teacher I have ever had. extremely entertaining. He s Great instructor. Rubber baby buggy bumpers. Now you better put this on your website. Oh, I am very slow, the only one left, I don t have time to write any comments! Good course, good subject matter. Not afraid to slow down if a student doesn t understand. Only problem was he expected us to be able to keep up on difficult lectures. Still, bloody brilliant course! You were a great teacher in such a hard course of study. I definitely did better taking this class from you than with my previous class. You did great at relating the material and showing how we will need these subjects in the future. Overall I thought this was a very good class and the instructor was incredibly helpful. I have never understood Calculus this well before. Continually remind students to do homework, it is extremely helpful. Dr. Norfolk is a good teacher with an amusing accent that manages to keep you from falling asleep at 11:00am. Freshmen need to take this class very seriously. Shorter evaluation please, good thorough teaching. Great teacher. Excellent at relating material to real world situations. Fair grader, results back the next day. Brilliant. As a post secondary student, it was hard to balance a full AP schedule with this class. A wonderful teacher. Helped explain concepts in new ways that provided better understanding and also was extremely entertaining. Proffesor (sic) Norfolk was an amazing teacher and I would love to take a class taught by him again. Great teacher. Approachable and helpful. Pushes you hard and honestly making the most of the course. I really liked having Dr. Norfolk as a teacher, and I was dissapointed (sic) when I went to schedual (sic) my classes and the teachers names weren t listed. I wanted to pick Dr. Norfolk for Calculus III, but I couldn t. Great teacher. Very tough but in a good way. 3

Dr. Norfolk used a variety of real-life applications to relate the matter to his students. He is an excellent and very effective teacher. Top notch. Excellent proffessor (sic), explained all material very well. Excellent instructor, good involvement and explanations for everything. Made it very clear and explained its importance. Very funny and easy to pay attention. I learned more in this class than I ever have in a college class great professor. Great teacher. Knows his stuff and cares about his students. Professor Norfolk was an excellent instructor. Although he moved at a fast pace he never hesitated to slow down or re-explain something if it was needed. He also did a good job of tying in the material to relevant real-world applications. 3450:222:007 (Honors) Spring 2008 Very tough grader, but very good teacher. Tries to tap into students full potential. Dr. Norfolk is a badass. He is definitely my favorite teacher for numerous reasons that include an obvious love and deep understanding for the material, a genuine interest for the well-being of his students and great communication skills with his teaching style. You should give him a raise. I thought he was an excellent teacher. Can t wait for Calc III next semester. Goes above and beyond what most teachers do. His teaching style is great, and very precise. Dr. Norfolk is an excellent teacher, who can help you understand the course material in various ways, whether it is a real life example or just by practicing. I ve never had a teacher that can stand at the board and rig examples. Take this class. Very nice! I like the structure and setup of this course. Your expectations are very clear. Would reccomend (sic) and I will see you in Calc III. Dr. Norfolk is a great professor who expects a lot from his students, pushing them to learn more. I feel that I have learned a great deal from his teaching style and his ability to help me outside the classroom. Dr. Norfolk is a very good teacher. His ability to convey the material to students is in such a way that it is extremely easy to understand. He also has a good sense of humor that helps make the class entertaining. I really enjoyed taking Calc II. Thanks for the memorable experience and academic gain. 4

Excellent class! Down-to-Earth, level-headed instructor. Great teacher and person. Reminds me, in terms of speaking pattern and humor, of Yahtzee Croshaw. Dr. Norfolk is an excellent teacher and I highly recommend him. Wish I could take him for Calc III but doesn t fit my schedule. Gaurenteed (sic) to learn a lot if you study the material. Dr. Norfolk was a very good proffesor (sic) and was always willing to help students if they needed it. He also always kept the class fun and interesting. Meticulous grader. Very fair in grading though. Lenient towards student s needs. For example, scheduling tests and assignements (sic) around other classes and course work. See ya in the Fall! With Dr. Norfolk, it was always a pleasure to come to class. He kept the class entertaining and presented information in an intellegent (sic) way. All around great class and instructor, not much else to say. Excellent teacher! Dr. Norfolk knows his subject (and many others) exceptionally well. Great communication - his thoughtful and concise explanations of subject matter are greatly appreciated. I enjoyed this course and the subject matter; my only regret is not putting more effort into it. Great humor as well!! To put it eloquently, Norfolk kicks ass! There were really no filler assignments - I actually did get a lot out of the work he assigned, especially the projects. He grades tough but it improves your math in the long run. Demanding and difficult, yet a great teacher. Despite the difficulty of the subject, Dr. Norfolk made each class interesting enough to make us want to improve our abilities and taught the material about as well as any other instructor I have had. Dr. Norfolk is a great teacher. His tests are challenging and he is a picky grader but it is for the best. I feel better prepared for future class having taken his class for the past two semesters. P.S. I liked him enough to sign up for his class again next semester for Calc III. 3450:222:004 (Honors) Spring 2006 5

English breakfast tea time in Norfolks office. Dr. Norfolk is an excellent teacher. He knows his stuff and is interested in the well being of his students. He always made time for questions both in and out of class. Best instructor out of all instructors I ve had. Norfolk is my favorite teacher even though I can t do Algebra. See you next year Norfolk. Good class; projects helped expand what was learnt in class. more proofs/derivations, etc. to help what we did in class. Use Easily my favorite class and professor. Great teacher, awesome course, and I m looking forward to Calc III in the Fall. Thanks for another great semester! I admire your patience in dealing with the Kindergarten section of the class. See you next Fall in Calc 3. Have a good Summer. I like to singa about the Moona and the June-a and the Spring-a. Sweet class. :-) Great teacher very understanding & willing to work with his students. Dr. Norfolk is the shining light in the dark shadow of despair that is my life. Good teacher. Hard class. Funny jokes. Not fun Math. Looking forward to Calc 3 & more stories like the one when you got hit by a car. 3450:222:005 (Honors) Spring 2003 The project seemed rather unstructure (sic). I did not understand exactly what the instructor was looking for. Dr. Norfolk is an excellent teacher. He was challenging, but made the course fun with his stories. He is the best math teacher I have ever had. You have succeeded in giving me the lowest test grade in a math course that I have ever had. What a wake up call excellent work Dr. Norfolk. Dr. Norfolk is an asset to the U of Akron and was immensely encouraging in a course in which I struggled. Thank you. 6

Dr. Norfolk is one tough Brit. Fun teacher. Tremendously difficult course. Beer. Great teacher. Great class. I look forward to next semester. I think we do better on the tests when you collect homework and give quizzes... it makes us learn before the tests. I enjoyed this class, the random discussions and stories made it interesting and I would say that Dr. Norfolk is the best teacher that I have ever had. It was a hard class, but fun. I enjoyed this class immensely, and look forward to Calc III. The course was very interesting, and I learned a lot. Dr. Norfolk was enjoyable to have class with and an excellent teacher, as well as very helpful. Need more bonus oppertunities (sic). Great teacher. Great guy. Loved his class. Made the classroom an easy learning environment. Had fun. Thanx (sic) Ignore Mr. XXXXX and his porno references. He has just hit puberty and these things are new and exciting to him. Also, can we drink alcohol in class? I think that this will help we (sic) learn better or at least fall asleep quicker. Dr. Norfolk is an excellent teacher. He understands students and their needs, & has given us, especially me, numerous occasions to do better; whether it be extra credit or more time to take a test. Finally a prof that knows what he s talking about, can communicate (with an understandable accent), and does so with a sense of humor. I read somewhere that every minute spent laughing adds a minute to one s life. Even is the material was a headache (and GPA-ache), the course wasn t a waste of time. The best prof I ve seen yet, and probably the best to be seen. Bloody (H)ell (sic), there s no better way to take a nap than sitting through a lecture on Norfolkian Calculus. But on the bright side, learning the proper ways to commit crimes, getting ideas for pulling pranks, learning to count cards, and learning British phrases on a daily basis is quite riveting, if Bob s your uncle and the rooster sat on the donkey while eating the master s shoe he lost while having his way with a baby pig. Fun, Fun, Fun... Not. I know these will be posted, so let me warn you all. Write everything in the Queen s english. Do all recommended homework, even if you don t feel obliged to. Series make ones (sic) head hurt, but it can all be done. If you are going to sucseed (sic), this is your best opportunity. The teacher is excelent (sic) and the class is well planned. 7
