WELCOME Thank you for joining Dundee Ice Skating Club. We are very proud of our club which is now been running for nearly 10 years, and we have some of the top skaters in the country at our club. We also have the best coaching team available for you at all levels of skating, running Skaters Development Programmes. Each club member will get 3 vouchers for skate sharpening -just hand your skates and a voucher to John Briggs.
CLUB NEWS We are at the forefront of technology having the equipment to run the International Judging System (IJS) the first club in the UK to have this system for our Annual and Open competitions. As well as jackets, Club tracksuits are available and we now have sample sizes available to try. We shall also subsidise the Annual Competition and other social events, so we ask your support in attending all events organised by the Club. GOOD BEHAVIOUR ON CLUB NIGHT Enjoy your skating. Be aware of other skaters around you. Listen for other skater s music. Practice. If you want to talk stay at the side out of the way of others. Don t play in the corners. Don t sit on the ice and play. Be courteous to others. Listen to instructions from all Coaches.
WHAT IS CLUB? Club is Wednesday -5.45pm to 6.45pm. Friday - 4.45pm to 6.15pm. This is included within your club membership fee. Within Club Times there are Icicle Classes. All Skaters can take part (with the agreement of your own Coach). The fee of 1 is paid to the Coach taking the Class. Club finishes at 6.15pm on Friday and is followed by Field Moves - 6.15pm to 6.45pm. If you take part in Field Moves the fee of 7 is paid to your own Coach. Guest membership is 3.50, allowed for maximum of 3 sessions.
WHAT IS PATCH? Patch is a private ice session sold to Ice Coaching Elite by Dundee Ice Arena and costs 7 which you pay to your Coach. Who is allowed on Patch? You must wait until your Coach decides you are ready. How will I know when I can skate on Patch? Talk to your Coach.
PATCH ICE TIMES Wednesday - 5.45AM to 9.30AM. Wednesday - 4.45PM to 5.45PM. Wednesday Figures 4.45PM to 5.15PM (On a patch ice session 14 TOTAL). Thursday -5.45AM to 9.30AM. Friday -5.45AM to 9.30AM. Friday Field Moves -6.15PM to 6.45PM. Saturday -5.45AM to 8.45AM. Saturday - 12.15PM to 2.15PM. Sunday -5.45AM to 9.45AM. Sunday Field Moves -8.30AM to 9.00AM. ALL PATCH ICE SESSION COST 7 AND ARE PAYABLE TO YOUR MAIN COACH. ALL FIELD MOVE SESSIONS ARE 7 AND ARE PAYABLE TO YOUR MAIN COACH.

HOW TO ORDER A CLUB JACKET Jackets are available in either Red or Blue. The Jacket has the D.I.S.C. Logo embroidered on it. You can have your name or nickname printed on too. Your Jacket Your Choice. What is the Cost? 35. How do I know what size? Try one from someone else or see notice board for size chart. Order forms are available from Cath Johnston, Membership Secretary. For tracksuits, see any committee member.
EVENTS DISC ANNUALS Who Can Enter? Consult your Coach. All Ages, All Levels. Do I need to be a NISA Member? No. When is it and how much does it cost? Sunday 20 th June `10-15 for Beginners / 20 for all others. An application form is available from your Coach.
EVENTS DISC ANNUALS Can I throw teddy bears or flowers for my friends? Yes, of course you can. Flowers and teddies are normally sold inside the rink on the day. You and your family can stay and watch the other skaters. What is a flower girl/boy and what do they do? They go on the ice to collect flowers/teddies that have been thrown on and carry them off for the skater. Can I help do this? Talk to the committee member who is organising this, I m sure they ll want your help. You must stand quietly at the side if you do this.
EVENTS DISC OPEN COMPETITION Who Can Enter? Consult your Coach. All Ages, All Levels. Do I need to be a NISA Member? Yes. This is a national open competition. When is it and how much does it cost? Saturday 30th & Sunday 31st October 10-25 for Beginners (RJS) / 35 for all others (IJS). An application form is available from your Coach.
EVENTS XMAS SHOW All Members of DISC can skate in the Christmas Show. Level of Participation is decided upon by the Coaches, but all club members will be on the ice at some point. Costumes will be provided by the Club, or if necessary you will be asked to bring something along. Keep your old white school shirts, they are always useful. Can my Mum or Dad help at the show? Yes Helpers are always required. We have a group of volunteers responsible for co-ordinating help. Watch out for Notices or speak to Committee Members.
SKATING SCHOOLS Who can attend this? These are run by Debiand Simon Briggs, and the criteria for entry and cost will be displayed on the Notice Board and on the website.
DRESSES What will I wear for a competition? First step is talk to your Coach. Look at dresses in the Ice Rink Shop Sometimes other skaters have dresses for Sale. It is a good way of buying beautiful dresses at a reduced cost. Coaches also sometimes have contact with dress makers for individual designs.
SKATES How do I know if I need new skates? Talk to your Coach, they will advise you on the boot/blade and size you should be using. Make sure your Coach is with you to measure your feet. Do I buy boots with blades already attached? It depends on your level. Speak to your Coach. As you move up the levels you also require better boots and blades. These are purchased separately and depend on the jumps you are doing, your weight and the amount of time you spend on the ice.
SKATES How can I tell when my skates need sharpened? Ask your Coach for advice. as a rough guide they should be sharpened every 6 to 8 weeks. Where should I go to get my skates sharpened? With this pack you will find 3 vouchers for skates to be sharpened by John Briggs (Simon s Dad). John is usually around on Club Nights speak to him.
ANY PROBLEMS Who do I go to if I have a problem? We have a complaints procedure. Your Coach is the first person to go to. If they are not there see Simon or Debi. They will tell you what to do or who to see to sort your problem The DISC website also has a page for a private message to be sent to our Child Protection Officer, Cath Johnston.
