ALTERNATIVE ATTACHMENT METHODS Boa is constantly striving for new ways to integrate and attach our components, in order to bring flexibility and adaptability to the construction and manufacturing of Boa-equipped braces. RIVET GUIDES If the brace material is not conducive to stitching Boa components, then consider our rivetable guides and reels. 20mm Modular Rivet Guide 15mm Modular Rivet Guide T Modular Rivet Guide 10mm Modular Rivet Guide Rivet guides can be placed along a variety of predetermined locations, vertically or horizontally, to create optimal fit Horizontal lace vectors provide optimal closure force FEATURES Optimal Fit Ease of Installation Ease of Design 10 Rivet Guides can be placed in various locations for creating optimal pressure and closure forces for a customized fit. Whether in a clinic or at the factory, rivets can be easily used to quickly install guides and reels. For plastic or rigid braces, rivets allow for ease of installation of Boa components into rigid materials.
BAYONET Mounting a reel via a Boa bayonet allows for easy installation onto a brace. Similar to a printer cartridge or a camera lens, the reel can be easily installed and/or replaced if needed. Rivetable M3 housing CLICK Click in Low Power Screw down M3 Tab in NOTES 11
OPTIMIZING REEL POSITION When placing a Boa Reel on a medical brace, there are various considerations to take into account. Boa has many options and techniques to aid our partners in optimizing the ease of access, closure distance, static vs. dynamic stability, and fit profile to create the ideal solution for your product. LOCATION OF REEL ON BRACE Center Placement Lateral Placement Medial Placement + Center placement allows for a universal SKU + Proper configuration is key + Improved ease of access for patient + Improved integration options for protection of the reel + Ideal for sports and active patient activities + Medial placement can aid ease of access for patients on some brace types + Impact protection can often be accomplished with medial placement FIT PROFILE Proximal Placement Distal Placement Center Placement + Provides even fit with added stability at the proximal portion of the brace + Provides even fit with added stability at the distal portion of the brace + Provides the most even fit across the entire brace 12
IMMOBILIZATION CONSIDERATIONS Boa can provide even fit using the dynamic nature of our system. It can also be fine-tuned to provide increased immobilization over targeted areas. Static Zonal Static/Dynamic Zonal Dynamic Zonal + Static zonal reels provide the optimal immobilization effect + A mixture of static and dynamic systems can provide great fit plus targeted immobilization + A dynamic system creates comfort and adaptability to limb shape, but less rigid immobilization. NOTES 13
STATIC & DYNAMIC FIT STATIC PRINCIPLES Static principles are generally applied in a strap format that allows for two independent zones. Static fit for optimal immobilization over various shapes of anatomy Ability to dial in specific tensions over specific areas along the brace BOA CLOSURE S DYNAMIC PRINCIPLES Dynamic principles occur when two zones are connected and controlled by one reel. The low friction inherent in the system, allows for the shape of the brace to accommodate and adapt to changes in limb shape during activity. Fits conical shapes with even pressure distribution Dynamic systems allow for excellent anti-migration benefits Ability to move limb in a limited fashion to promote muscle use Even pressure is maintained as shape of limb changes 14
APPLICATIONS Mixing static & dynamic configurations creates zonal fit, while still allowing for optimal support and comfort. Multiple zones allow for easily adjustable fit across the length of the brace, especially when crossing a joint. Static Zone + For optimal stability and immobility Zone 1 Zone 2 Allows for complex shapes to be easily accommodated Dynamic Zone + To accommodate multiple shapes + To provide some movement within the brace for comfort NOTES 15
MANAGING COMPLIANCE Boa s L4 locking dial allows a practitioner to manage patient compliance by temporarily locking the dial tension in place. Once locked, the L4 dial keeps brace tension exactly where prescribed for optimal patient outcome. The doctor can retain the key, or they can provide it to the patient with instructions for removal. L4 Locking Dial and Compliance Ring 1 2 3 FEATURES Improved Patient Compliance Persistence Security The ability to lock the dial creates the opportunity for the practitioner to set a preferred tension and know that the brace will be worn at that setting until the next office visit. The locking ring can also be used in high risk patients where the doctor desires a locked system to ensure patient compliance and persistence. Once the L4 Dial is used to lock the tension in place, it stays that way until the doctor removes the locking ring. This feature will maintain a prescribed setting during the healing period. 16

GROSS ADJUSTMENT The Boa reel best functions as a micro-adjustment feature of the brace. Given that there are many body types and sizes, having a strategy for proper initial fit of the brace (gross adjustment) is critical. Use these gross adjustment techniques to provide an initial optimal fit, maintain a one-size-fits-all strategy, and optimize the speed at which the patient can don/doff their braces. One time, set and forget. Gross adjustment strap can set the initial fit. Boa then becomes the only adjustment point. Multiple guide locations Gross adjustment strap coupled with a Boa strap FEATURES Better Fit Improved User Experience Reduced SKU Counts & Costs Creating proper gross adjustment options allows for a better fitting brace. Gross adjustment keeps excess lace from complicating the user interface and allows for a quicker, more elegant closure system. Gross adjustment plus Boa allows the manufacturer to provide fewer SKU s for easier inventory control at the OEM and at the clinic. 18
LACE STORAGE An additional gross adjustment strategy is to store excess lace outside of the reel. Use the following ideas for quick and easy lace length adjustment. NOTES 19
