Event Location (click on map image for link to Google maps) Edge Hill University is located on St Helens Road in Ormskirk. Travelling by road, leave M6 at junction 26 and join M58. Leave M58 at junction 3, taking the A570 towards Southport and Ormskirk. You should see signs for 'Edge Hill University' when you leave the motorway. From junction 3 the journey is 2.8 miles and takes approximately 5 minutes. The campus can also be reached from Preston or Liverpool via the A59. For sat nav you can use the postcode L39 4QP but please check that the route provided arrives via the main entrance on St Helens Road. Further instruction is on the EHU website HERE Page 3 of 10

Event Day and General Instructions Registration/ sign on Facilities at Event HQ Event Rules Condition of Cycles & Equipment What to bring with you (in addition to your bike and helmet!) Safety Briefing Registration/Sign On opens at 07:30 at the new Sports Centre at Edge Hill where you can find the Sign On area in the Sports Hall to the rear of Reception. On production of your photo ID you will be issued with your custom event drinks bottle and a number flag to attach around your seat post with a timing chip incorporated within it please ensure you affix this around the seat post on your bike no chip = no time! There will be toilet and refreshment facilities available at Edge Hill University together with showers, lockers and changing rooms but please be aware that unless you are a member you will not be able to securely fasten the lockers The Croston Crusade and Roman Road Challenge Sportives are NON- COMPETITIVE events. Participants must ride in an orderly manner in accordance with the Highway Code. The Highway Code states that riders should not ride more than two abreast, and extend all reasonable courtesy to other road users. The use of earphones (e.g. MP3, ipod) by participants is not permitted on the grounds of safety. Group riding by event participants should depend on the traffic conditions and the severity of the course. Riders will be started in groups of approx 20 at two minute intervals from 0830hrs. Participants are responsible for their own bike and associated equipment. Your bike must be fully roadworthy and, if conditions dictate any lights must have sufficient battery life for the duration of the event. The use of triathlon handlebars or other time trial bar extensions is not permitted in British Cycling registered Sportive events for safety reasons. Participants who do have them fitted will be asked to remove them or be withdrawn from the event. Please bring with you a form of ID in case an incident is to occur, enough food for the duration of the event (and a little bit more for extra time spent dealing with unexpected incidents such as a puncture or mechanical problem), money, mobile phone, basic tool kit, appropriate clothing for the conditions and some spare clothing, working pump and spare inner tubes. All participants will be required to attend a Safety Briefing at 08:20, this will be held at the Start/Finish area on the running track. The briefing is mandatory and is to ensure your health and safety and that of the marshals, officials and spectators. Page 6 of 10

A few Do s & Don ts Hazards and Signage Medics & First Aid Organisers Emergency Contact Hydration Do: Enjoy the ride, challenge yourself, follow the Highway Code & be safe, wear a helmet Don t: Drop litter, Behave in a manner that may offend others, Impede traffic flow, Ride in large groups in the middle of the road The routes will be signposted at major junctions and intersections but please remember, it s your responsibility to make sure you know the route, please take time to study the maps in this document. There are a number of crossroads and right turns on both routes, please familiarize yourself with these in particular. On the Roman Road course at approx 28.0m there is a steep descent to a Give Way junction where there is a restricted view. There will be additional signage and Marshals at this point, please ensure you follow their instructions and the instructions of all Marshals throughout the event. GPX file exports of the course are available via the interactive maps on page 5 simply click on the map to be taken to the Ride with GPS website then go to the Export section and follow the instructions A fully staffed ambulance crew will be in attendance with a First Aid Unit at Event HQ, and a mobile Ambulance Unit. However, you should not take part in the event if you have been feeling unwell. If you feel unwell during the event it is important that you stop racing and inform an event official so that medical staff can attend. Do not ignore warning signs such as chest pains, dizziness, headaches, nausea or other forms of distress. If you have an existing medical condition you should check with your doctor that you are able to take part. If you are able to enter, ensure that full details of your condition are written on the reverse of your event number in case of an emergency ensuring you include all information such as current medication. In case of emergencies on the day, the Event Directors can be contacted by telephone on 07786 443673 or 07900 156832 please be aware these numbers are for emergency use only, the team will be very busy on the day of the event and will only respond to emergency calls or genuine requests to be collected by the Broom Wagon. Fluids lost in sweat must be replaced. There will be sign-posted drink stations (where High5 Energy Source Citrus drink, water, High5 gels and energy bars will be available) along the routes. Toilet facilities will also be available at each drink station. For the Croston Crusade the drinks station will be at approx 17 miles at The Wheatsheaf on Town Road in Croston www.wheatsheafcroston.com/ - the pub will be open for cyclists and will be also able to offer for sale tea/coffee/hot food and snacks in addition to the items mentioned above. For the Roman Road Challenge the 2 x Drinks Stations will be situated at Page 7 of 10

Mechanical Support Broom Wagon Failure to finish Riders Times Spectators approx 23 miles at the United Utilities Countryside Ranger Offices next to Great House Barn Tea Room on Rivington Lane the Tea Room will be open to cyclists and at approx 53 miles at the Sirloin Inn on Station Road in Hoghton www.thesirloin.co.uk/ (turning left into Station Road which will be signposted Drinks Station after visiting the stop riders can then rejoin the main route by turning left out of the Pub car park (marshals at the Drinks Station will be able to provide directions but it will also be fully signposted) - the pub will be open for cyclists and will be also able to offer for sale tea/coffee/hot food and snacks in addition to the items mentioned above. If you can, please help to support the establishments that have been kind enough to accommodate our drinks stations on the 2 routes. It is your responsibility to ensure you take on fluids as necessary. It is also not advisable to drink alcohol the night before alcohol can have a serious impact on hydration. Please also ensure your cycle is secure if you leave it at any point during the event small café locks are available via the Bicycle Lounge website www.thebicyclelounge.co.uk/locksandsecurity/ Representatives from The Bicycle Lounge will be available on the day for all things mechanical together with offering a great range of bikes, equipment and accessories, they can be contacted via www.thebicyclelounge.co.uk/ The Bicycle Lounge will also be providing mobile mechanical aid at the rear of the field in the official Broom Wagon if you need assistance from the Broom Wagon whilst out on the course please contact the Event Directors via the tel numbers above or inform any of the Marshals If you withdraw from the event at any stage before the finish you must inform the officials at Event HQ. This will allow us to account for all entrants. A provisional listing of Riders Times will be posted on the Vital Events website (www.vitalevents.co.uk) to which competitors will have 72 hours from the time of its posting to raise any queries. Spectators are welcome to come along and watch the event and support the entrants. But please be mindful of the competitors whilst participating and where necessary step out of the way of oncoming cyclists. Please don t be offended if asked to move! Volunteers & Marshals It is not possible to have too many marshals so if you have family and friends that are available and willing, we are always happy for extra volunteers on the day to help the event run smoothly. If anybody is interested could you please email: rob.macleod@vitalevents.co.uk You do not require any previous experience or knowledge of cycling events to become an event marshal; any necessary briefing will be provided before the event via email or verbally and/or on the day. We will provide free entry to a future event for all volunteers (or a nominated friend/family member) without volunteer marshals these events could not take place your enthusiasm, time and effort is greatly appreciated. The Harry Middleton Trophy The Harry Middleton Trophy will be presented to the best represented club at the event to read more about Harry click on the link www.hmiddletoncc.co.uk/about/harry-middleton Presentation There is a timed section on Hunters Hill and we will be presenting rewards for the 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd King and Queen of the Mountain for each of the routes along with a prize for the oldest and youngest finishers for each route see the timetable on page 2 for timings of the presentations it would be great if you could stay around for a short while after your ride to see if you have won a prize and to show your support to those that do, all rewards must be collected on the day of the event if you are not present we will operate a rolldown process to those that attend the presentation Page 9 of 10
