Umpqua Community College Observatory Fund Raiser Telescope Surplus Sale April 9, 2016 1
Umpqua Community College is building and equipping an astronomical observatory on the northwest part of campus. The new observatory is designed to provide a hands-on laboratory experience for U.C.C. students and astronomy outreach to Douglas County schools as well as to local communities. The project has been completely financed by generous donations and grants. Funds are very limited so that the observatory equipment is at a minimal operational level. This fund raising sale of U.C.C. surplus telescopes is hoped to generate funds to allow the enhancements to the current telescopes. This catalog has a brief written description and a photo of each surplus item. The sale will be by sealed bid after a period of time to inspect all surplus items at U.C.C. s Tower Building. Bids must match or surpass a minimum bid amount. All items are to be either picked up at U.C.C. or shipped at the successful bidder s expense. All items sold as is without warranties. Some of the used telescopes are in good working order and suitable for beginning astronomy enthusiasts. Others are less capable but offer a low cost opportunity for displaying a bit of astronomy history or decorate a hobbyist s home or office. Some cosmetic tube damage may be present. Please see this sale as not only an opportunity to obtain a bargain or decorative telescope but to help finance the funding of an educational resource for teaching and outreach to children and our communities. Your financial support is much needed and appreciated. Paul Morgan Astronomy Instructor, U.C.C. Map showing location of Observatory and Tower Bldg. 2
