POST-SEASON ONLINE ENTRY INSTRUCTIONS (ALL TRAX TIMING): TSSAA Track & Field Online Entry procedures for SUB-SECTIONAL or SECTIONAL Qualifying Meets **Head Coaches bear the ultimate responsibility for making sure that their entries are correct and accurate. A head coach may assign the online entry responsibility to one of their assistants; however, the head coach should be certain to double check the entries submitted before the final deadlines. If you are interested in further details or have simple curiosity about the process, you are welcome to contact Jim Kaiser for more information. ( jimkaiser@mindspring.com or 859-492-9990 ) HEAD COACHES Your first stop should be to go to the TSSAA website at www.tssaa.org. Click on the link for DI and DII Track Post- Season Online Entry Form. Information about the online entry process will be made available on or before March 1 st. If your school competes in a Sub-sectional meet, you will be required to complete your online entries prior to the posted deadline for your Sub-Sectional meet. Advancers to the Section final meet and then the State Championship will be automatic and you will not need to re-enter athletes again. Sub-Sectional online entry will be open starting on April 15 th and continue until the final meet entry deadline determined by your meet director. If your school competes in only a Section final meet, you will be required to complete your online entries prior to the posted deadline for your Section final meet. 2015 STATE MEET DISQUALIFICATIONS: These were the disqualifications from the 2015 State Track Meet. Please make sure your athletes are aware of all violations that will result in disqualification. 100 M Hurdles AAA- hand on hurdle (G) 100 M Hurdles AAA- false start (G) 110 M Hurdles DII- ran out of lane advantage over hurdle (B) 4X400 A-AA- False start (B) 4X400 AAA- Exchange before baton outside zone (B) 4X200 M A-AA- #1 exchange outside zone going out (B) 7
2016 TSSAA TRACK & FIELD REGULATION POINTS OF EMPHASIS: TSSAA Uniform Rule: All uniforms must follow the NFHS Rules. The referee will warn every participant prior to the meet that they must compete in a legal uniform, and if a contestant competes in an illegal uniform, then that contestant is disqualified from that event. There are no team warnings or individual warnings after the meet begins. Officials should use preventative officiating as much as possible. Pentathlon/Decathlon: 1. Running Events - In running events contestants are run in heats of three or four, with the exception of the 800- meter run (Pentathlon) and the 1500- meter run (Decathlon). Fully Automatic Timing should be used if possible. If not, three watches should be on each runner, if at all possible. There shall be a minimum of two watches on each runner. a. All rules as set out in the National Federation Track and Field Rule Book shall apply to the running events with the following exception: (a) The field shall be allowed one false start in each event. If a contestant false starts after the field has been granted one false start, that contestant shall be disqualified in that event and shall receive 0 points in that event. (b) Hurdles should be placed in all lanes that have an effect on the race. For example, if the race is run in lanes 2, 4 & 6, hurdles should be placed in lanes 1, 3, 5 & 7. 2. Field Events - All rules as set out in the National Federation Track and Field Rule Book shall apply to the field events with the following exception: In the throwing and jumping events, a contestant shall be allowed three attempts. If he/she scratches on all three attempts in an event, he/she shall be disqualified in that event and shall receive 0 points in the event. Running Events in AAA: The starting procedure for the 1600M, 3200M, and 4X800 M Relay will be a two alley start with a one curve stagger. The six best times advancing to the state meet will be seeded in the outside alley for all of these mentioned races. In the following AAA Running Events: 8
Sections vs. Times with the slowest seeded runners/teams in the first section: 100 M High Hurdles,100 M Dash, 4x200 M Relay, 4x100 M Relay, 400 M Dash, 300 M Hurdles, 800 M Run, 200 M Dash, and 4x400 M Relay. Plant Box: Rule 7-5-14:.Planting box padding meeting the applicable ASTM Specification Standards is required and shall cover any hard an unyielding surface including between the planting box and all pads. Such padding can be incorporated into the design of the planting box or can be a padding addition to an existing planting. Rule 7-5-22: The planting box shall not contain any foreign materials except planting box padding, which shall meet the ASTM Standards. TSSAA 2015-16 SPORTS CALENDAR & DEFINITIONS: As far as Pre-Season Practice, there are no restrictions. First Practice Date is the Monday of NFHS Week 33. Scrimmage Rule does apply. The Date of the First Contest allowed is the Monday of NFHS Week 37. Eligibility and schedules must be filed online. Maximum number of regular season contests is 11 dates. Each meet counts as one date. In the Off-Season there are no restrictions in regard to practice. In the Summer there are no restrictions in regard to practice. Dead Period Rule does apply. Pre-season practice No restrictions. Track and Field (Boys and Girls) First practice date is Monday, week of February 15. Must practice three days before scrimmages are allowed. Maximum of four scrimmages or two preseason dates, or one date and two scrimmages. Date of first contest allowed is Monday, 10 weeks prior to Spring Fling. Eligibility and schedules must be filed online. Maximum number of regular season contests is 11 dates. Each meet counts as one date. Off-season practice No restrictions. There are no restrictions in regard to summer practice. Must observe the two-week Summer Dead Period. 15
DEFINITIONS Practice - Coach and player(s) together with instruction, teaching, coaching, etc. Try-outs are considered practice. Open Facilities Permitted at all times except during the Dead Period. Schools may use their facilities for students in their building prior to or at the conclusion of the school day. Coaches may serve in a supervisory capacity only. There is no instruction, no teaching, no coaching, etc. Coaches may not participate or play in any manner. It is a free play type atmosphere. Sport specific skills cannot be taught. ATTENDANCE CANNOT BE MANDATORY. Weight Training/Conditioning Permitted at all times except during the Dead Period. Must be generic type program that would be beneficial to all students and not sport specific. Exception: In baseball and girls softball, players may throw to condition arms. Sport specific skills cannot be taught. ATTENDANCE CANNOT BE MANDATORY. Practice During the School Day All athletic practice during the regular hours of any school day shall conform to the same rules, regulations, and season as corresponding athletic practice outside the school day. Multiple Contests In track and field, individuals accompanied by a coach may enter varsity competition at a different site on the same date and time, and this will count as two days on the school s schedule. Beginning Sport Any school starting track and field for the first time may have five days of Off-Season practice prior to the first season the sport begins. Pre-Season Practice Rule Begins the first day of school until the first official day of practice in that particular sport. Scrimmage Rule A school cannot practice with or scrimmage another school until both schools have practiced a minimum of three days. A school may have a maximum of four scrimmages or two scrimmage dates or one scrimmage date and two scrimmages. No tournament format of any type may be used. Scrimmages should look more like practice than games. Once a school has played their first game, there can be no more scrimmages. Off-Season Begins with the school s elimination from postseason tournament play in a particular sport and concludes with the end of the school year. Summer The period of time from the end of the school year until the beginning of the following school year. Dead Period Rule No coaching, observing, or contact between coach and players in sport involved. There is no practice, no open facilities, and no weight training/conditioning. The Dead Period, which is to be observed by all schools, is NFHS Week 52 and NFHS Week 1 14 days. 16
