SDL Trados Studio 2015 SDL MultiTerm 2015 SDL Studio GroupShare 2015 Service Release 1 FAQs
SDL Trados Studio 2015 Service Release 1 What is SDL Trados Studio 2015 SR1? SDL Trados Studio 2015 SR1 is an automatic update (a 'Service Release') that contains a number of product enhancements and fixes. Service Releases (or SRs) are common practice within the software industry to ensure that users continue to get the best from their software investment. What are the benefits of installing SDL Trados Studio 2015 SR1? By updating to SR1 you are able to benefit from a number of key enhancements to SDL Trados Studio 2015 including: Translation Quality Assessment (TQA) enhancements There is greater flexibility when working with TQA configurations with the new import or export options which enable sharing or reuse with any new or existing project. SR1 also comes with a new logic for applying penalty points (e.g. when dealing with repetitions or when replacing text), as well as a more visual display to enhance usability. Changes can now be clearly recognised as track changes and associated to a source fragment, both within the TQA dialog box and in the TQA report. Enhanced TM update logic Unwanted duplicates created when performing TM updates (e.g. from a spelling correction) can now be avoided with the new Merge translation units option in the translation memory update batch tasks. This will be the new default option and ensures that you can more easily maintain the quality of your TM content. MS Word filter The new MS Word filter launched in Studio 2015 as a technical preview is now production ready. The key enhancement is the ability to save target files despite tag issues, making it more robust and flexible in handling all types of content. Please see below for more details. Added support for Office 2016 to legacy files all legacy MS Office file types have been enhanced to support Office 2016 files, improving compatibility. Usability improvements - A number of refinements have been made to the new features such as AutoCorrect s handling of smart quotes, better support for dictation software (e.g. Dragon Naturally Speaking) in AutoSuggest, and Retrofit updates. These, in conjunction with UI localization improvements and enhancements across many file types (e.g. XML, DOCX, PPTX, XLIFF, XLS and HTML), ensure a high-quality user experience whilst allowing greater flexibility. More resources - The Get Started tab on the Welcome screen has been refreshed and includes updated resources to help users get started in Studio and MultiTerm. The help documentation for the silent installation capability is also now complete. Read the Knowledge Base articles and Online Help for full details and complete list of all improvements.
What are TQA configurations? TQA stands for Translation Quality Assessment and was introduced in Studio 2015. TQA enables users, be it within a small translation business or a large corporation, to measure quality in a more structured and objective way. It is different from Quality Assessment checks which are done automatically in Studio 2015 (e.g. warnings for tag errors, punctuation, number formats etc.). TQA items are added manually by a human user to highlight terminological errors, or issues in fluency or syntax, for example. TQA configurations include: Categories of error (e.g. grammar, syntax, fluency, terminology) Severities that can be assigned to those errors (e.g. critical, major, minor, repetition) Scoring which defines the number of penalty points given to each severity These can be configured to meet your own quality standards, or in order to comply with established standards such as ISO. Alternatively, you can use one of the four predefined models that ship with Studio 2015: SAE J2450, TAUS DQF, LISA and MQM. With SR1 you can enjoy greater flexibility with the possibility of exporting and importing TQA configurations so that they can be applied to any project in Studio 2015. The logic for applying penalty points has also been enhanced, particularly when dealing with text replacements or repetitions of TQA items. What is TM update logic? This is the way your translation memory (TM) is updated when you run the Update Main Translation Memories or Update Project Translation Memories Batch Task, typically done following the translation review cycle. In Studio 2015 SR1 there is a new default recommended option to Merge translation units. This means that you no longer need to either add all translation units (TUs) as new TUs (which meant you had to keep unwanted duplicates) or overwrite all existing TUs (which meant intentional duplicates were deleted). You now have the flexibility to incorporate both options in one single Batch Task, which also allows you to merge any metadata associated with the TUs. This ensures the high quality of your TM content. What are the differences between the new MS Word filter and the old filter? The new MS Word filter gives you more choice and greater flexibility to handle all types of content. Key enhancements include: Supports files created in Google Docs, Libre office (plus others) out of the box Completely redesigned handling of SmartArt and content controls Enhanced support and more robustness for RTL languages such as Hebrew and Arabic. Ability to save target files despite tagging issues Enhanced handling of advanced character formatting for outline and other character styles Simplified handling of hyperlinks
