How to export a list of plant community types that are 90% cleared and associated with a threatened ecological community Quick guide for the VIS Classification database Version 1.0
How to export a list of plant community types that are 90% cleared and associated with a threatened ecological community BioMetric Plant Community Type data are maintained in the VIS Classification database. This document provides a quick guide on how to access the database to export data for plant community types that are 90% cleared and associated with a TEC to CSV files. Note: the same process could be followed for a search on any % range. 1. Log in to the VIS Classification database Register and access the database using your email as your login ID by clicking on the link below http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/nswvca20prapp/loginpr.aspx 2. Search options for reports and exports Select Communities tab and then Reports/Exports 3. Choose search type Select Full Field Searches, Exports and then Advanced Search 1
4. Select export parameters Step 1: Choose export template as Biometric tool report by selecting from the dropdown menu Step 2: Select common terms and then tick the box for the criterion BM CMA Percent Cleared Select Add A window will pop up asking you to select search condition Select search conditions as: Operator: >= Enter value: 90 (this equates to percent cleared value of greater than or equal to 90%) Select records for: Any (Or) Select OK to close display window 2
The screen will then show the criteria selected Step 3: Show results by selecting Show Select OK to close display window Step 4: Run export by selecting Run. A Download CSV File window will appear 3
5. Download csv file Select Download CSV File and then View downloads Open to access the information in an Excel spreadsheet. The spreadsheet will contain considerable information. The key column of interest is Column R ( PCT estimated % remaining ). Sort on this field and cross reference with TEC column (options are Yes/No) to determine if the PCT is greater than 90% cleared and associated with a TEC. The easiest way to do this is to go to the Data tab in Excel, then use the Sort function on the PCT Estimated % remaining field. Delete all rows <90% cleared. Then Sort the remaining data on the TEC field and delete all rows with TEC = No. The data remaining is a list of all BVTs which are 90% cleared and associated with a TEC. Note: there is an issue around terminology in the VIS Classification database, in that percent cleared and percent remaining are used interchangeably and inconsistently in Reports/Exports queries and their outputs. The VIS Administration team are aware of this issue and have logged it for correction. The PCT estimated % remaining field in the Excel spreadsheet is equivalent to the PCT Percent cleared in CMA data within the Extent section of the VIS Classification database. To view these data, make note of a PCT ID from the spreadsheet and search on this PCT within the VIS Classification database. 4
6. Search plant community type Select Communities tab then Search and Display PCT Enter the Plant Community Type ID then select Search Step 1. Click on the View button to the right of the screen Step 2. Select the Extent tab at the top of the screen For this example you will notice that this PCT is found within four CMAs - see the bottom of the screen captured above. As the data in the VIS Classification database is stored by PCT, all BioMetric vegetation types (BVTs) are listed even when only one CMA percent cleared % matches the criteria entered, e.g. 90%.
