OmniComm Systems has created this document to provide you with step by step instructions on how to set up Compatibility View when using either Internet Explorer 10 or 11 for accessing TrialMaster, in addition to other tips for customizing your browser, in order to make your TrialMaster experience better. 1.0 About Internet Explorer 10 and 11 Internet Explorer 10 (IE10) was the browser version released by Microsoft in 2012, and is the default browser for Windows 8 users. For Windows 7 SP1 users, IE10 is being pushed via a Microsoft update. Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) is the latest browser version released by Microsoft in 2013, and is the default browser for Windows 8.1 users. For Windows 7 SP1 users, IE11 is also being pushed out via a Microsoft update. As new browser versions are released, TrialMaster must be validated to ensure all functionality continues to work correctly. As of this time, neither IE10 nor IE11 have been validated with TrialMaster 4.1.2. This is the reason you see the Incompatible Browser error page when attempting to access TrialMaster with either of these browsers. While IE10 nor IE11 have been validated, Internet Explorer does provide a setting known as Compatibility View, which is so websites that do not support IE10 or IE 11 (such as TrialMaster) are displayed as though they were being viewed using IE7. This document provides instructions on how to set up compatibility view.
2.0 Using IE10 or IE11 to access TrialMaster in Compatibility View Compatibility View may be turned on either via the Tools Menu (section 2.1) if using IE10 or IE11, or via the Developer Tools dialog (section 2.2) if using IE10. The recommend method is via the Tools Menu, as turning it on via the Developer Tools dialog will not be preserved once you close the browser, and must be turned on every time you establish a new IE session and attempt to access TrialMaster. OmniComm also recommends that you disable the option to delete your browsing history upon exiting IE so that any website you add via the Tools Menu is not deleted (section 2.3), and that you turn off the pop-up blocker (section 2.4). Note: The screenshots in the following sections are taken from IE10; your screens may look slightly different if you are using IE11. 2.1 Turning on Compatibility View via the Tools Menu To turn on Compatibility View via the Tools Menu, follow the steps below: 1. Make sure that the IE menu bar is visible. The IE menu bar contains the following menu buttons: File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools, and Help To make the IE menu bar visible, right-click on any part of browser header frame and select Menu Bar 2. Click on the Tools (1) menu and select Compatibility View Settings (2) 1 2
3. Type in your TrialMaster URL in the Add this website text field (3), and click on the Add button (4) and skip to step 5. Note: Alternatively you may complete step 4 to display all websites in Compatibility View, although this may affect your browsing experience on any non-related TrialMaster pages. This option is not available in IE11. 4. Select the Display all websites in Compatibility View (5). 5. Click on the Close button (6) 3 4 5 6 Once you complete the steps above, if the TrialMaster login page does not display automatically, simply click on the Click here to return link on the Incompatible Browser page to refresh the page and route you to the TrialMaster login page. 2.2 Turning on Compatibility View via the Developer Tools Dialog If you do not have access to the Tools Menu, you may turn Compatibility View on via the Developer Tools dialog, by following the steps below:
Note: The Developer Tools menu option will not work for turning on Compatibility View in IE11. 1. Press the F12 function key on your keyboard (You may also click on the Tools icon Tools) in the browser header bar and select F12 Developer 2. From the Developer Tools dialog, click on the Browser Mode menu (1) and select Internet Explorer 10 Compatibility View (2) 1 2 3. Click on the Document Mode menu (3) and select Internet Explorer 7 standards (4) if not selected automatically after performing step 2 3 4 4. Close the Developer Tools dialog by either clicking on the X button (5) on the top-right corner of the dialog, or by clicking on the File menu (6) and selecting Exit (7) 5 6 7 Once you have closed the Developer Tools dialog, you should be back on your Internet Explorer session with the TrialMaster login page rendered correctly.
2.3 Disabling the Option to Delete Browsing History on Exit Internet Explorer has an option to delete your browsing history upon exiting (closing all open browser windows). This option also deletes any websites you have added to Compatibility View via the Tools Menu. It is recommended that you disable the Delete browsing history on exit option so that the TrialMaster website for which you turned on Compatibility View does not get deleted when you close the browser. You may disable the Delete browsing history on exit option by following the steps below: 1. Make sure that the IE menu bar is visible. The IE menu bar contains the following menu buttons: File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools, and Help To make the IE menu bar visible, right-click on any part of the open gray area in the browser and select Menu Bar 2. Click on the Tools menu (1) and select Internet Options (2) 1 2 3. Uncheck the Delete browsing history on exit checkbox (3) located in the Browsing history section in the General tab 4. Click on the OK button (4) to close the Internet Options dialog
3 4 2.4 Turning off the Pop-Up Blocker for the TrialMaster website It is necessary to turn off the pop-up blocker in order for the TrialMaster website to be displayed properly. If this step is not done, you will see an Incompatible Browser page when attempting to access the TrialMaster login page. 1. Make sure that the IE menu bar is visible. The IE menu bar contains the following menu buttons: File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools, and Help To make the IE menu bar visible, right-click on any part of browser header frame and select Menu Bar 2. Click on the Tools Menu (1) and select Pop-up Blocker (2) 3. From the sub-menu that opens, select Pop-up Blocker settings (3) Note: If this option is disabled, this means you currently have the pop-up blocker turned off and do not need to perform any additional steps.
1 2 3 4. Type in your TrialMaster URL in the Address of website to allow text field (4), click on the Add button (5), and then click on the Close button (6) 4 5 6
3.0 Uninstalling IE10 or IE11 If turning on Compatibility View does not resolve the issues you experience when viewing your TrialMaster site, you may uninstall IE10 or IE11. Note: The option to uninstall IE10 or IE11 is only available to you if you are not using Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, respectively, as these are the default browsers for these operating systems. To uninstall IE10 or IE11, you must have local Administrator privileges, and should contact your IT department prior to doing so. IE10 or IE11 may be uninstalled by following the steps below: 1. Click on the Windows Start button 2. Select Control Panel from the Start Menu. This will open the Control Panel dialog. 3. Select Uninstall a program found under the Programs heading. This will open the Program and Features dialog 4. Select View Installed Updates from the options on the left-hand pane of the dialog. This will list out all installed updates in the right-pane of the dialog. 5. Using the scroll bar to the far right of the right-pane in the dialog, scroll down until you reach the Microsoft Windows section. 6. Under the Microsoft Windows section, find and select Internet Explorer 10 or Internet Explorer 11 7. After making your selection, click on the Uninstall button After the uninstallation process is complete, the system may require you to reboot your PC for the changes to take effect. Uninstalling IE10 or IE11 will automatically restore your previous IE browser version (IE9). Once you have rebooted your PC, you do not have to make any other changes and should be able to browse to your TrialMaster website and see the login page. Note: If using Windows 8, uninstalling IE10 will not automatically restore a previous IE version.
