[31]: 2004 Research and Inspiration of Gender Archaeology in America CHEN Chun (Department of Cultural Heritage and Museology of Fudan UniversityShanghai 200433) Abstract: With the rise of feminist movement and more interest in gender issues by social studies gender archaeology began to emerge and develop in the U.S.. The gender archaeology is a research area to explore the role of gender in specific historic context and ancient sociopolitical change by using critical perspective from ethnography material culture burial and human skeleton historical document art history and psychology. Inspired by the western gender archaeological findings Chinese archaeologist could reexamines traditional notions of gender role during the Paleolithic Neolithic and Bronze periods and of social development and provides some possible explanations which may be helpful to learn more about human behavior in prehistory. Key words: gender archaeology; concept; methodology; inspiration of case studies
