Page 2 We re going back to Washington D.C. again in 2015! Due to the success of and interest generated by the 2014 trip to Citizenship Washington Focus (CWF), Illinois 4-H is offering a 2015 trip instead of waiting two years for 2016!! CWF is a week-long program sponsored by National 4-H Council which provides 4-H members with opportunities to learn about the federal legislative process, meet with federal legislators, make an impact on their local communities, and tour various museums and memorials in the Washington, D.C. area. Delegates will participate in Citizen Action Planning and are expected to make an impact with a special project when they return home to Illinois. The Illinois 2015 trip is scheduled for Saturday, JUNE 6 through Saturday, JUNE 13 (and could possibly include Sunday, June 14). On-line registration for the trip will open in mid-october on our CWF website page: http://web.extension.illinois.edu/state4h/events/citizenshipwashington.cfm. (Information on this page will be updated soon and will include a downloadable brochure with details.) Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration will finally close December 1, 2014. Previous delegates to CWF may not attend a second time. Attendees must be 4-H members between the ages of 14-18 as of May 1, 2015. The estimated registration fee of $900 is still tentative and will be dependent upon the final number of 4-H ers attending and possible donations. Want a say in what happens in Springfield? Have you attended The 4-H Great Debate in previous years? Interested in helping plan the next one? Then check out the information and application posted on the Illinois 4-H website (http://web.extension.illinois.edu/state4h/members/ leadership_gdpc.cfm) and submit your information by the Nov. 1 deadline! We re looking for interested young people ages 16-18 to help us plan and promote the 2015 4-H Great Debate program. Although a date for the program hasn t been set yet, we ll initially be focusing on March, 2015. Committee members will get a look at the behind the scenes work that needs to be accomplished to plan and promote a statewide event, contact speakers, assist with planning the legislative bills for discussion, and more. What a great learning opportunity! Prior attendance at the 4-H Great Debate is preferred I PLEDGE... MY HEART TO GREATER LOYALTY
Page 3 Nominate a 4-H member for this year s Spirit of Community Award We all know them OUTSTANDING 4-H members. Help them get the recognition they deserve. Now through Nov. 4, 4-H members who have completed exceptional community service projects can apply to win online at http://spirit.prudential.com. Each county 4-H program can select one middle level local honoree in grades 5-8 and one high school local honoree in grades 9-12. Applications must be submitted to county Extension staff by Nov. 4. Once counties have selected their local honorees, county staff must certify their applications online by Nov. 11 to make them eligible for state-level judging. The program's goals are to applaud young people who already are making a positive difference in their towns and neighborhoods, and to inspire others to think about how they might contribute to their communities. Over the past 19 years, more than 370,000 young Americans have participated in the program, and more than 100,000 of them have been officially recognized for their volunteer efforts. State winners receive silver medallions, $1,000 awards, and an-all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., for national recognition events. In Washington D.C., a national selection committee will name America s top 10 youth volunteers for 2015. They will receive an additional $5,000 award, gold medallion, crystal trophy, and a $5,000 grant from The Prudential Foundation to designate to the charitable nonprofit organization of their choice. 4-H Camp White Tail October 24-26, 2014 The 4-H Learn-By-Doing way to earn your Illinois Department of Natural Resources Hunter Safety certification!
