LEED CONTRIBUTION 1

What is LEED? LEED is the nationally accredited benchmark developed by USGBC (United States Green Building Council) and is voluntary. LEED Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. LEED promotes a whole building approach to sustainability in seven (7) key areas: Sustainable Site Development Water Savings Energy Efficiency Materials Selection Indoor Environmental Quality Innovation in Design Regional Priority To qualify a project must meet certain prerequisites and performance benchmarks (credits) within each category. 2

What is LEED? Projects can be Certified, Silver, Gold or Platinum depending on credits achieved. LEED currently has certification programs for the following: LEED for New Construction V3 LEED for Core & Shell LEED for Schools LEED for Healthcare* LEED for Retail* LEED for Commercial Interiors LEED for Retail Interiors* LEED for Existing Buildings LEED for Existing Schools* * Under Development or in Pilot LEED 2009-Advancements to the Rating System LEED Online-Faster, Smarter & Better User Experience CERTIFICATION MODEL-GBCI & Certification Bodies = LEED V3 GBCI (Green Building Certification Institute) Handling Project Registration June 27, 2009 3

Product Manufacturer s & Service Providers USGBC does not certify, promote or endorse products or services of individual companies. 4

LEED for New Construction & Major Renovations The LEED-NC Rating System is applicable to new commercial construction and major renovation projects MR CREDIT 4: Recycled Content (1-2 Points) INTENT To increase demand for building products that incorporate recycled content materials, thereby reducing impacts resulting from extraction and processing of virgin materials. REQUIREMENTS Use materials with recycled content such that the sum of post consumer recycled content plus ½ of the preconsumer content constitutes at least 10% or 20%, based on cost, of the total value of the materials in the project. The minimum percentage materials recycled for each point threshold is as follows: The recycled content value of a material assembly is determined by weight. The recycled fraction of the assembly is then multiplied by the cost of assembly to determine the recycled content value. RECYCLED CONTENT POINTS 10% 1 20% 2 5

LEED for New Construction & Major Renovations IEQ CREDIT 4.1: Low Emitting Materials-Adhesives and Sealants (1 Point) INTENT To reduce the quantity of indoor air contaminants that are odorous, irritating and/or harmful to the comfort and well being of installers and occupants. REQUIREMENTS All adhesives and sealants on the interior of the building (defined as inside of the weatherproofing system and applied on-site) shall comply with the requirements and standards of South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) Rule # 1168 6

LEED for Commercial Interiors LEED-CI The LEED-CI Rating System is applicable to tenant improvements of new or existing office space LEED 2009 for Commercial Interiors addresses the specifics of tenant spaces primarily in the office, retail and institutional buildings. Tenants who lease their space or do not occupy the entire building are eligible. Designed to work hand in hand with the LEED for Core & Shell Certification system. LEED for Core & Shell is used by developers to certify the core and shell of a project; it prepares the building for environmentally conscious tenants 7

LEED for Commercial Interiors LEED-CI MR Credit 4: Recycled Content (1-2 Points) INTENT To increase demand for building products that incorporate recycled content materials, thereby reducing impacts resulting from extraction and processing of virgin materials. REQUIREMENTS Use materials, including furniture and furnishings, with recycled content such that the sum of post consumer recycled content plus ½ of the preconsumer content constitutes at least 10% or 20% based on cost of the total value of the materials in the project. The minimum percentage materials recycled for each point threshold is as follows: The recycled content value of a material or furnishing is determined by weight. The recycled fraction of the assembly is then multiplied by the cost of the assembly to determine its recycled content value. RECYCLED CONTENT POINTS 10% 1 20% 2 8

LEED for Commercial Interiors LEED-CI MR CREDIT 5: Regional Materials (1-2 Points) INTENT To increase demand for building materials and products that are extracted and manufactured within the region, thereby supporting the regional economy and reducing the environmental impacts resulting from transportation. REQUIREMENTS OPTION 1 (1 Point) Use a minimum of 20% of the combined value of Construction and Division 12 (furniture) materials and products that are manufactured regionally within a radius of 500 miles. OR OPTION 2 (2 Points) Meet the requirements for Option 1 Use a minimum of 10% of the combined value of construction and Division 12 (furniture) materials and products extracted, harvested or recovered, as well as manufactured, within 500 miles of the project. 9

LEED for Commercial Interiors LEED-CI IEQ Credit 4.1: Low-Emitting Materials-Adhesive and Sealants (1 Point) INTENT Reduce the quantity of indoor air contaminants that are odorous, potentially irritating and/or harmful to the comfort and well being of installers and occupants. REQUIREMENTS All adhesives and sealants on the interior of the building (defined as inside the weatherproofing system and applied on-site) shall comply with the requirements and standards of South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) Rule # 1168 10

LEED Reference Guide LEED for NEW Construction LEED-NC CATEGORY POINT VALUE INTENT REQUIREMENT STRATEGY LEED-NC Environmental Quality EQ 4.1 1 Point Reduce the quantity of indoor contaminants that are odorous, irritating and or harmful to the comfort and well being of installers and occupants All adhesives & sealants must meet SCAQMD Rule # 1168 Specify Low VOC materials in construction documents. Ensure that VOC limits are clearly stated in each section. LEED-NC Materials & Resources MR 4 1-2 Points Increase demand for building products that incorporate recycled content Use 10-20% of the total value of the materials in the project that contain recycled content Establish a project goal for recycled content. During construction ensure that the specified products are installed. 11

LEED Reference Guide LEED for Commercial Interiors LEED-CI CATEGORY POINT VALUE INTENT REQUIREMENT STRATEGY LEED-CI Environmental Quality EQ 4.1 1 point Reduce the quantity of indoor air contaminants All adhesives to meet SCAQMD Rule # 1168 Specify low VOC materials in construction documents. LEED-CI Materials & Resources MR 4 1-2 Points Use recycled materials 10-20% of materials incorporate recycled content Establish a recycled products goal. Insure materials get installed. LEED-CI Materials & Resources MR 5 1-2 Points Increase use of Regionally manufactured materials and products 20% combined construction value and 10% extracted, harvested, processed 12
