Putting an individual on a path toward much higher success can be an extraordinary challenge, but it is something I love. And in my eyes, the auto repair shop industry is loaded with good people who deserve to be in better control of their businesses and their lives. When I was 22 I started my first business. It grew to 100+ employees by developing management software for automotive repair, convenience stores and service stations. I won multi-million dollar contracts with every major oil company, numerous franchises and a long list of independents. Ten years into the business an employee of mine introduced me to Mike Lee. Almost immediately, we decided to start Management Success. It took off like a rocket. My wife and I did the market research, conceived the business model and produced the original materials of Management Success. We ve since founded quite a number of additional businesses, each very successful at what they do. We sold one of the corporations to a multinational. agement Success! forward to create new activities. It s exciting to put a new business on the map, get it popping, make it smooth and stable, and then place it into qualified hands. My aim is to remain connected, but not necessarily directly handling the day-to-day affairs. Mike and I jointly coordinated on Management Success s activities, but he more closely oversaw the daily operations. Sadly, Mike passed away the night of August 4th. Life comes right at us all. That s the way of the world. There were some decisions to make. My wife Stephanie and I talked, and by the next morning immediately took active charge of Management Success, along with the insightful support of Mike s wife Barbara. Perhaps more than any other skill, I know how to put a top executive into Power or Power Change (succession). Our other businesses were in a condition that allowed us to dive into Management Success. MS has personnel all over the country, but we are headquartered here in Glendale. I relocated my personal offices and planted myself here. I am masterminding the release of something you got a tiny taste of at the GAP Convention in Pasadena. I assure you it s smoking red-hot. It is more advanced, digs more deeply, and is more fundamentally practical, and useful for a shop owner than anything the automotive repair industry has ever seen. There s a brilliant team working on it, and it s moving at light-speed. The GAP Convention in Hilton Head will launch the first phase. I d love to see you there. TRIBUTE TO MIKE LEE A Heartfelt Thank You By Barb Lee I will never forget this year s GAP in Glendale! The outpour of your love and support in the light of Mike s passing touched me deeply. Your kindness and warmth filled my heart and demonstrated to me what an outstanding extended family I feel I have with all of you! One of the great things during the convention was seeing the tremendous respect you all have for one another. Seeing you band together and swapping shop talk is always a delight. That so many of you came up to me telling me how Mike had changed your lives, made me so proud to be part of the Management Success team. Filled with so many remarkable and capable people, I can see why Mike had so much passion for this industry. I certainly hope you all enjoyed yourselves as much as I did! And I hope that this convention will remain with you as a reminder of what Mike, and the rest of the Management Success team want for all of you. The future of Management Success is bright. We are already underway planning the next convention and implementing new services, technology and training. Our staff is excited right along with us. We are blessed to have so many wonderful, dedicated people surrounding us! In ending, I invite you all to look towards the future with a determination to flourish and prosper. We are here to help. Masters of Shop Management Awards Masters Award This award is given to those GAP shop owners who have proven, without a doubt, they can apply the tools they have learned. Their business is a Model Shop. Mike Proud I worked hard to make my shop perfect, an ideal auto shop. I am so proud of my business of what it has achieved today and this is where the real pride for me comes from. The power of the Masters Award = A Stable Shop. We finally got this award and it has affirmed the fact that all systems in the office are in place.
