Accessibility Marine Etablissement Amsterdam Marine Etablissement Amsterdam (MEA) can easily and quickly be reached by various modes of public transport. The MEA is located in Amsterdam at the Kattenburgerstraat 7, nearby the city center, the Shipping Museum and the Amsterdam Central Station. Multiple bus lines travel to and from MEA and its vicinity. Bus line 48 toward KNSM/Java/Borneo island (KNSM/Java/Borneo-eiland) stops in front of the barracks, this stop is called Kattenburgerstraat Bus line 22 towards Indian neighborhood (Indische buurt) stops in front of the Shipping Museum. This stop is called Kadijksplein and is located diagonal of the MEA and bus stop Kattenburger plein. Both bus lines depart from the Nicolaas church, which is located in front of the Amsterdam Central Station In addition there is a possibility to use our own schouwdienst (small navy ferry), which travels from the wharf behind Amsterdam Central Train Station to its berth MEA. The distance from Amsterdam Central Station to Marine Etablissement Amsterdam is approximately 2.5 to 3.0 kilometers. Therefore you can always consider going on foot. Because of the short distances we don t advise using a taxi. But if you prefer a taxi, there is a large taxi stand in front of the Amsterdam Central Station. Amsterdam is, like any other great metropolis, an ever chancing city. Therefore availability of bus stops, routes and the schouwdienst may vary due to circumstances. Accessibility by car: When you visit MEA by car take into account that the Amsterdam City Center is a very busy one. Traffic jams, especially during rush hours, are common. Make sure you are familiar with local traffic regulations when traveling by vehicle. To gain access to MEA, you must be able to identify yourself with your passport. When traveling from the direction Amersfoort: Highway A1, towards Amsterdam, must be followed all the way until it is followed by the exit A10 Noord. This exit is also exit Zeeburg (S114), Turn left and follow the road straight ahead so you will drive through the Piet Hein Tunnel, At the third traffic light (is also the first opportunity to pass under the railway), turn left, (MEA is located at number 7). On your right side you will see a large wall/fence belonging to the barracks. Shortly after passing two bus stops you will find the entrance with access control to your right. When traveling from the direction Den Haag (The Hague): Highway A4, towards Amsterdam, must be followed, When the A4 comes to an end, it will divide into the A10. You will have to follow Ringweg-Zuid, Take and follow exit Zeeburg (S114) down the road till it ends, Turn left and follow the road straight ahead so you will drive through the Piet Hein Tunnel, At the third traffic light (is also the first opportunity to pass under the railway), turn left, (MEA is located at number 7). Afsluitdijk MEA Schouwdienst rear exit Amsterdam Central Station Boarding area This way of water transportation is unique within the armed forces. For years and years the Schouw is travelling between Amsterdam Central Station and the Marine Etablissement Amsterdam. This shuttle service is available for all military personnel and recruits testing their fit for military service. The Schouw travels during the mornings and the afternoon.
