About this safari: This wildlife safari is specifically designed to provide participants with the opportunity to see and photograph the dramatic wildlife of East Africa. During these 14 days participants will visit a variety of Kenya s wildlife habitats, each with its unique community of birds and mammals, scenic attractions, and cultural components. Amboseli National Park at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro, the Great Rift Valley s Lake Nakuru and the northern extension of the Serengeti plains in the Masai Mara are all included in this safari program. Our means of transportation is in specially equipped safari vehicles with a maximum of four passengers per vehicle and a window seat and access to the roof hatch for each person. This safari will be led and instructed by Donna and Lou Waldock whose love of nature and wildlife first took them to Kenya in 1980. From that point on their lives have been enriched by the magic of East Africa, which, along with their interest in nature, wildlife and photography they share with their safari companions. Over the years their talents have evolved from traditional slide film to digital photography and digital daylight infrared photography, and expanded from the printing of slides to their digital darkroom with custom printing capabilities. Lou, a retired firefighter, now teaches photography classes. Donna, a pastel and pencil artist, mats and frames the photographs they showcase and sell at art shows throughout the Midwest. Many of their safari participants have become repeat customers and good friends. The number of people on each safari is limited with the objective of teaching the art of wildlife photography and giving each person their personal attention. Many of those who have traveled with Lou and Donna have become personal friends and repeat safari participants. Physical activities: The pace of this safari is moderate and should not, physically, be excessively demanding. On most days there are options for both morning and afternoon game drives. On some mornings it may be advantageous to depart at daybreak and return to camp for breakfast Afternoon game drives usually begin about 3:00 pm and may last until dark. Your Kenya Naturalist Guides: One or more professional driver/guides accompanies each safari. These men are graduates of an extensive and on going training program that includes courses in natural history, tourism and African culture & history. They are carefully selected for their knowledge, temperament and ability to communicate. In addition they have had several years of on the job training and have advanced to their current position because they have successfully led numerous wildlife photographic safaris and demonstrated their ability as charismatic and resourceful leaders. Accommodations: This safari makes use of excellent quality accommodations throughout. These hotels, lodges and camps have been carefully selected to provide a high quality of comfort and service in some of East Africa s most pristine wildlife environments. Environmental Sensitivity and Conservation Commitment: World Discovery Safaris recognizes the importance of environmentally sensitive travel to Kenya s parks and cultural centers. It is an important aspect of the country s long-range challenge, to manage its wealth of wildlife in a sustainable manner, and to utilize its resources in a way that will create optimum living conditions for all its inhabitants.

DAY 2 - SATURDAY, JANUARY 25 - ARRIVE NAIROBI Following your arrival at the Nairobi International Airport, you clear customs and are met by your driver/ guides who transfer you to the Fairview Hotel for the remainder of the night. DAY 3 - SUNDAY, JANUARY 26 NAIROBI / SAMBURU GAME RESERVE In the morning you depart with your safari guides and drive north, past Mount Kenya, to the semi arid Samburu Game Reserve. Along the way you are likely to meet some of the picturesque Samburu tribesmen, a pastoral people related to the Maasai. The women wear multiple layers of beads in choker fashion and the men are famous for their high jumping dances. After checking into your luxurious tented camp located on the banks of River Ewaso Nyiro, you will have your first opportunity to photograph the wildlife of this beautiful reserve on an afternoon game drive. Your meals and accommodations for three nights are at Elephant Bedroom Camp. B/L/D DAYS 4 & 5 - MONDAY & TUESDAY, JANUARY 27 & 28 - SAMBURU GAME RESERVE Morning and afternoon game drives take you into the semi-desert thorn bush bordering the Ewaso Ngiro River. The primary reason for coming to this area is to find and photograph wildlife, which is characteristic of the Horn of Africa and not found far south of the semi-arid Samburu region. Grevy's Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Beisa Oryx, Gerenuk, Olive Baboon, Gunther s Dik-dik and Reticulated Giraffe thrive in this harsh but picturesque landscape. Fan-tailed Raven, Black-faced Sandgrouse, Blue-naped Mousebird and Vulturine Guineafowl are just a few of the many unique birds found here. In addition to wildlife you may opt to visit a traditional Samburu village where you will have an opportunity to visit with the people, see inside their loaf shaped homes and learn about some of the ancient traditions of these pastoral people. Your meals and overnight accommodations are at Elephant Bedroom Camp. B/L/D DAY 6 WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 29 SAMBURU GAME RESERVE / LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK Following breakfast you depart with a picnic lunch and descend the eastern escarpment of the Great Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru National Park. The famous ornithologist, Roger Tory Peterson, once described this park as the greatest ornithological spectacle in the world. It s thousands of pink flamingos and fishing fleets of white pelicans are certainly an awesome sight. After checking into our accommodations at Lion Hill Lodge we depart on an evening game drive in this beautiful wildlife sanctuary. B/PL/D DAYS 7 & 8 THURSDAY & FRIDAY, JANUARY 30 & 31 - LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK Over 400 species of birds have been recorded in Lake Nakuru National Park and although birds are a major attraction,
you should see Rothschild's Giraffe (which is rare elsewhere), Grant's and Thomson's Gazelle, Impala, Common Zebra, African Buffalo, Eland, Waterbuck and several other species of plains game. This is a good place to find Leopard and small populations of rhino, of both African species, have recently been moved into the park where they receive round-the-clock protection. Morning and afternoon game drives take you along the lake shore, to the Baboon Rocks overlook and through the park s yellow barked acacia woodlands in search of wildlife and photo opportunities. Your meals and overnight accommodations are at Lion Hill Lodge. B/L/D DAY 9 SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 1 - LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK / MASAI MARA GAME RESERVE Today you drive to the famous Masai Mara Game Reserve and your accommodations at the Mara Bush Camp (http://www.marabushcamp.com/en/the-camp.html) a luxurious mobile camp discreetly tucked away in a riverine forest on the banks of the seasonal Olare Orok River. The camp s 12 river front tents are outfitted with comfortable 4 poster beds (double / twins available on request), en-suite flush toilets and sinks, warm bucket showers, clothes racks, writing desks, veranda furniture, towels, shampoo / conditioner & liquid soap. Buffet lunches and a la carte dinners are served in a centrally located dining tent or at tables overlooking the river. Picnic lunches are available for those on all day game drives. You wake up with coffee or tea which is brought to your private veranda. The camp is solar powered and a generator (tucked away to ensure there is no noise pollution) is available to provide power for charging batteries. B/PL/D DAYS 10, 11 & 12- SUNDAY, MONDAY & TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 3 & 4 - MASAI MARA GAME RESERVE You awaken to the morning chorus of birds and are soon out doing just what you came to Africa for - find, photograph, observe and learn about animals. This northern extension of the Serengeti virtually throbs with life. "The Mara" savannas are famous for their concentration of grazing and browsing animals and their predators - Lion, Leopard, Cheetah and Hyena. Morning and afternoon game drives take you to different areas, depending on where your guides feel you have the best chances of seeing exceptional wildlife. They may suggest you rise early and return for a late breakfast, or depart with picnic breakfast and lunch and spend the entire day away from camp. The order of your days may differ, but one thing is guaranteed - you will see lots of mammals, birds, and other wildlife. Your meals and accommodations are at Mara Bush Camp. B/L/D DAY 13 - WEDNEDAY, FEBRUARY 5 MASAI MARA GAME RESERVE / NAIROBI Your morning game drive provides a final opportunity to spend time with the wild herds of this area.
