1 1 Introduction McAfee Product Improvement Program collects the data from the client systems where McAfee products are installed, and that are managed by the McAfee epolicy Orchestrator server (McAfee epo ). It helps improve McAfee products. McAfee Product Improvement Program collects these types of data: System environment (software and hardware details) Effectiveness of installed McAfee product features McAfee product errors and related Microsoft Windows events The collected data is aggregated on the McAfee epo server, then sent to the McAfee Product Improvement Program server once a day (default collection period) and stored at <epo installation directory>\telemetrydata. Purpose McAfee uses the data that is collected by the program to analyze and improve the product experience for customers. The collected data is: analyzed by McAfee to improve product features and customers' experience with the product used by McAfee Technical Support for troubleshooting Privacy protection The data collected by McAfee Product Improvement Program will be used only for product improvement and technical support. 2 Installing, 2 enabling, and uninstalling the software Install, enable, and uninstall McAfee Product Improvement Program using the McAfee epo server. Contents Install the software with McAfee epo Enable the software on the McAfee epo server Enforce policy to enable the software on client systems Uninstall the software Install the software with McAfee epo You can install McAfee Product Improvement Program when installing the McAfee epo server. Before you begin You should have administrator rights to install McAfee epo and McAfee Product Improvement Program. Task 1 In the McAfee epolicy Orchestrator InstallShield Wizard, accept the McAfee End User License Agreement, then click OK. 2 On the Ready to Install the Program dialog box, decide if you want to Allow McAfee to collect anonymous diagnostic and usage data, then click Install to begin installing the software. Deselect the checkbox if you don't want McAfee to collect anonymous diagnostic and usage data. Enable the software on the McAfee epo server You can configure the McAfee epo server setting to enable McAfee Product Improvement Program. For option definitions, click? in the interface. Task 1 Click Menu Configuration Server Settings, select Product Improvement Program from the Setting Categories, then click Edit. 2 Select Yes to allow McAfee to collect anonymous diagnostic and usage data, then click Save. 2 Installing, enabling, and uninstalling the software Enforce policy to enable the software on client systems Enforce policy to enable the software on client systems You can manage McAfee Product Improvement Program on multiple client systems using the Product Improvement Program policy. Before you begin Make sure you enable the McAfee Product Improvement Program server setting before enforcing the policies. For option definitions, click? in the interface. Task 1 Click Menu Systems System Tree, then select a group in the System Tree. All the systems within this group (but not its subgroups) appear in the details pane. 2 Select the required systems, then click Actions Agent Set Policy & Inheritance. 3 Select McAfee Agent as the Product, Product Improvement Program as the Category, then select the required policy. See the epolicy Orchestrator product documentation for more information about creating and editing policies. 4 Select whether to Reset inheritance or Break inheritance, then click Save. Uninstall the software McAfee Product Improvement Program can be uninstalled using the following steps. Task 1 Log on to the McAfee epo server as an administrator. 2 Click Menu Policy Client Task Catalog, select McAfee Agent Product Deployment as Client Task Types, then click Actions New Task. 3 Create a new task to uninstall McAfee Product Improvement Program from the required client systems. See the epolicy Orchestrator product documentation for more information about removing a task from the client system. 4 Assign the task to the client systems and send an agent wake up call. McAfee analyzes the data that the program collects to improve product features and the customers' experience, and to provide proactive data to the support team for troubleshooting. What information does the McAfee Product Improvement Program collect? The services run on low priority and don't collect any information from your systems if you opted out. Uninstall McAfee Product Improvement Program to remove the processes and service from the client systems. See Uninstall McAfee Product Improvement Program for more details. What are the available reports? The McAfee epo administrator can view the data collected at <epo installation directory> \TelemetryData on the McAfee epo server. How secure is McAfee Product Improvement Program? The data collected is transferred over a secure channel and the McAfee Product Improvement Program secure server is within the McAfee internal network. How do I enroll in McAfee Product Improvement Program? McAfee Product Improvement Program can be installed with the McAfee epo 5.0 and using the McAfee Agent 4.8. To enroll, select the McAfee Product Improvement Program option in the McAfee epo 5.0 installer, Server Settings, or Agent Policy. Does McAfee Product Improvement Program work with my existing McAfee epo server? McAfee Product Improvement Program is supported on McAfee epo 5.0 and later. No, McAfee Product Improvement Program runs on low priority and collects data once in a day (default setting). How much bandwidth is consumed by McAfee Product Improvement Program? McAfee Product Improvement Program consumes a minimal bandwidth of few kilobytes of data from each system. How much disc space does the McAfee Product Improvement Program use? The McAfee Product Improvement Program installer is 2 MB and the software requires approximately 7 MB after installation. What is the memory consumption?
