Installation & Setup 4 Installation & Setup Installing, updating and upgrading Audials One. FAQs about installing Audials One Answers to the most frequently asked questions relating to installing Audials One. Can I install and use my product on several computers? Yes, you can install your product on up to 3 computers using only one license key. Restriction: It is not possible to run your product with the same license key on several computers at the same time. Where can I download older product versions? You can find all older versions linked for download in the support forum: Version History. What are the system requirements? The system requirements are listed on the product download page. When installing, I get the error: "Overlapped I/O operation in progress." What gives? This problem is caused by the Windows update package KB2918614 from Microsoft, which was released on August 12th, 2014. To solve this error

Installation & Setup 5 1. Create a new local Windows account with administrator privileges. 2. Sign in to the new account, and install Audials One. After the installation, you can use Audials One also with your normal Windows account. Updating Audials One 12 to the latest version If you encounter problems or errors with Audials One 12, you should make sure you have the latest version of the software installed. Make sure your PC is up to date. Updates are minor patches, provided to fix bugs and to improve the usability of products. Updates only override internal program files. All your personal settings, output files, and data like wishlists and favorites etc., will be preserved. Note: Updates within the same major version number are free. Example: If you bought Audials One version 12, updates to any version 12.x are offered for free. To check which version you have installed 1. Start Audials One and open Options > General. Under group Product activation, click About Audials 12... The displayed About Dialog shows name and version number of your installed product on the first line. 2. Compare your installed product's version number to the latest available version's number. Installed version Where to find the latest version Audials One 12.x (for example 12.0.42500.0) Audials One 11.x or older product download page Version History Note: If both numbers are equal, you don't need to update. You are already running the latest version. To update Audials One to the latest available version, if both numbers are not equal 3. Exit Audials One.

Installation & Setup 6 4. Download the setup file. 5. Open the download folder. Double-click the symbol of the setup file Audials_One- Setup.exe to launch the installation procedure. 6. Select Standard installation, then click Install.Follow the instructions through the installation procedure. This may take a few minutes. Please wait. You are now running the latest version of Audials One. Transferring user data from one installation to another When for example upgrading from Audials 11 to Audials 12, or when moving Audials to another PC, certain user data such as your radio favorites, subscribed podcasts, playlists and storage settings, can be transferred to the new installation. Audials 11 and Audials 12 can be installed on one PC without interfering with each other. It is recommended to keep Audials 11 installed at least until you have successfully transferred all user data. Installing Audials 11 and Audials 12 side-by-side has the following advantages: You can easily install and test the demo version of Audials 12 to see how it works for you, while still keeping your Audials 11 installation intact. You can continue to use both versions 11 and 12 on the same PC, as long as you want. Important: The following is strongly recommended to maximize the chance to transfer your user data, in any situation, even a re-installation after a hard-drive failure. Keep the old version installed, and install the new version side-by-side, on the same PC. Sign up for an Audials account and keep your installation signed in, always. Uninstall the old version only after all your user data is correctly transferred. Even if you install the software on another PC, or the old installation is lost for example due to a hard drive crash, a great part of your user data can be transferred via Audials account. Additionally, the Audials

Installation & Setup 7 account lets you connect and transfer user data also to your other devices, such as a smartphone. Even if you install the software on another PC, or the old installation is lost for example due to a hard drive crash, a great part of your user data can be transferred via Audials account. Additionally, the Audials account lets you connect and transfer user data also to your other devices, such as a smartphone. My old installation is already uninstalled, or lost due to for example a hard-drive issue. Can I get my old user data back? Only if you had been signed in to your Account, with your old installation. The procedure equals the one listed in Table 1: Diverse user data and its corresponding ways to transfer on page 7, under installation on a different PC

Installation & Setup 8 Upgrading from Audials 11 to Audials 12 Upgrade from Audials 11 to Audials 12 and transfer your user data, such as your radio favorites, subscribed podcasts, playlists and storage settings. 1. If Audials 12 is already installed and running, close it. Start Audials 11. 2. Sign in to your Audials account with Audials 11. If you don't have an account yet, you can sign up now. 3. Export all data marked as manually (export, import) in Table 1: Diverse user data and its corresponding ways to transfer on page 7. 4. Close Audials 11. 5. If you haven't done so already, download and install Audials 12. You can now begin to transfer data into Audials 12: 6. Start Audials 12. 7. Sign in to your Audials account with Audials 12. All data marked with semi-automatically (via Audials account) in Table 1: Diverse user data and its corresponding ways to transfer on page 7 now becomes available. 8. Import all data marked as manually (export, import) in Table 1: Diverse user data and its corresponding ways to transfer on page 7. All available user data is now transferred to Audials 12. Audials One USB Version You can install Audials One to a USB device, e.g. a USB stick, a USB hard disk or a mobile phone. This way, you can take Audials One with you wherever you go. Audials One USB stores all its working data on that USB device, including all recordings and conversions. Simply connect the USB device to any Windows PC, e.g. your friend's computer or your computer at work. Audials One USB starts automatically and works without having to actually install the software on that computer.

Installation & Setup 9 Installing Audials One to a USB device The regular product setup contains an option to install Audials One to a USB device. 1. Download the setup file. 2. Connect the USB device to your computer. 3. Open the download folder. Double-click the symbol of the setup file Audials_One- Setup.exe to launch the installation procedure. 4. Select Installation for Experts and click Next >. 5. In step "Select installation type", select USB and choose your USB device from the list of connected devices. 6. Click Install. Follow the instructions through the installation procedure. This may take a few minutes. Please wait. Restriction: Do not disconnect the USB device during installation and execution of the USB version. Working with Audials One USB To run the USB version on a computer: Plugin your USB device to the computer. Audials One starts automatically. Note: Windows 7 users: Open the device folder and excute Start Audials One.exe manually. Notice the small symbol as part of the product logo which indicates you are running Audials One USB. Note: Do not disconnect the USB device during installation and execution of the USB version. The first time you run the USB version with a computer, a driver setup may be necessary. It runs automatically. Follow the given instructions.

Radio 16 Radio Listen to and record your favorite radio stations or record radio music by genre, country or artist. Radio Basics Get ready to explore radio stations and learn about the different possibilities to record stations. Navigating through the Radio view The Radio view organizes stations into categories, like for example music genres. To get back to the home view, any time, click. To go back to the previous category, any time, click. The navigation path right above the station list always tells the category you are currently in. For example:. You can add categories to the home view, to be able to open them with just a single click. To add a category, navigate to it and click. To sort the stations, click By popularity at the top right of the station list, and select one of the options from the menu.

Radio 17 At the right side of a station list item, click to display the station's details page (see Figure 1: A station's details page on page 17). The details page shows a link to the station's website, related shows and podcasts, the playback history, and more. Figure 1: A station's details page

Radio 20 Mass recording and manual recording You can hand-pick stations to record, but you can also let Audials One automatically select and record a set of stations for you. The Radio view controls for Finding, listening to and recording a station (records the selected station) and Automatic mass recording by category on page 24 (records stations according to the current category as displayed on the button). Radio 21 Listening and recording Audials One offers features for listening to and recording Internet radio stations in several ways. Finding, listening to and recording a station Find a station by it's name and listen to it or record it. 1. In the navigation, click Radio. 2. Type the station name into the Search for stations box, and click the desired station in the list of search results (see Figure 3: Detail from the Radio view on page 21, ). Also mind the search results that are hidden due to current radio settings (see Figure 3: Detail from the Radio view on page 21, ). Enter a station name. Optional: Do one or all of the following: To add the station to your favorites: On the radio toolbar, click. To listen to the station: In the Player, click.

Optional: You can repeat steps 2 on page 21 and 4 on page 22, to record several stations, at once. After a few minutes, Audials One finishes recording the first songs. All recorded files appear in the Player. Continuous recordings need to be stopped, manually. You can now edit your recordings. Edit tags, fine-tune cutting, and cut continuous recordings into songs. Saving a recently heard song While your are listening to a station, Audials One creates a history which allows you to save recently heard songs. How the history works: The history lists recently played songs and goes back up to 10 songs. The history only works for stations that are indicated as being suitable for recording.

Radio 23 The History button becomes visible as soon as one song has been played completely. The history is also available on the station's details page. Click a song to save it. Figure 4: The history shows a list of recently played songs Scheduling a radio recording You can program scheduled recordings to let Audials One record a certain radio station at a given time, automatically. Here's how the reocording timer works: Click, and then click Create scheduled recording for selected station... to create a new scheduled recording for the selected station. Audials One will automatically start and finish this recording at the given date and time. To see all your scheduled recordings, click, and then click Manage scheduled recordings. Remember: Audials One needs to run to do scheduled radio recordings. FAQs about scheduled radio recordings Can I schedule recordings so that they are always recorded automatically (for example every week)? Or do I have to schedule them again every time? You have to schedule every single recording. Automatically repeated radio recordings are not possible.

Radio 24 Automatic mass recording by category Navigate to a station category, such as a genre or country, and have Audials One's Mass recording feature record multiple stations in parallel. Mass recording provides you with a lot of new music, fast. 1. In the navigation, click Radio. 2. Optional: Set the output format to Universal (MP3/MP4). 3. Navigate to the category you would like to record. For example one of the following: Click Genres (...) and then click Pop (...). Click Favorite stations (...). The Mass recording (...) button label indicates in parentheses what will be recorded. 4. Click Mass recording (...). Audials One selects stations from the current category, and starts recording. 5. Optional: To see all currently recording stations, click, and then click Recording stations (...). After a few minutes, Audials One finishes recording the first songs. Recording jobs serve to automatically stop recording after e.g. a certain time or amount of files. 1. In the navigation, click Radio. 2. Click Job. 3. Select the type of limitation. For example, select Data limit. 4. Select a limit value. For example, select 300 MB. The recording processes stop when the set limit is reached (in the given example, after recording 300 MB of data). Managing stations You can adapt the amount and quality of stations being displayed and used for recording to your needs, and add new stations to Audials One. Radio station settings You can specify settings for the quality and detection rate of radio recordings. Hide stations with low sound quality or a certain stream type by specifying settings according to your choice.

Radio 26 1. In the navigation, click Radio. 2. Below the radio station list click Manage stations. The Manage stations dialog opens. 3. Change the settings according to your needs: Option Note Only stations that provide complete songs Get complete songs only. Only a few radio stations fit this setting. Only stations with very high audio quality Balanced (good selection, good quality) All stations More settings >> Get songs from radio stations that provide a high audio quality. Get songs from radio stations that provide a good audio quality and a good detection rate. Get songs from all available radio stations. Audio quality and detection rate of the radio stations will be mixed from low to very high. Specify individual settings for quality and detection rate or customize settings for mass recordings. 4. Click OK to apply your new settings. Your Manage stations settings are now active and effect the number of radio stations that are being displayed in the Radio view. Adding a missing station There are two possible reasons why stations are not visible in the station list: The settings for displaying stations are too strict, or the station is actually not yet in the station list. Learn step by step how to add a station manually. Before adding a station, make sure the station is not yet contained in Audials Ones station list. The easiest way to search the full station list is to search a station by name. For more information on searching your station, see Finding, listening to and recording a station on page 21, steps 1 to 2 on page 21. 1. Find out the station's stream URL.

Radio 27 Note: Usually, the stream URL and the website URL differ from each other. a) Visit the website of the radio station and open the stream with an external media player (for example Winamp). b) Copy the station's stream URL from the stream properties. 2. On the radio toolbar, click, and then click Add station manually... 3. Paste the station's stream URL in the upper text box. 4. Click Add... If a connection can be established, a dialog is shown that allows to enter further details about the station, such as e.g. the its country of origin. Fill out and submit the dialog. The station will be added to the list of stations. The station will be added to your favorite list, automatically. I couldn't find out the stream URL. What can I do? Please try looking in our Forum for assistance. Other Audials users may be able to help you find the streaming URL. Always provide the website URL of the station that you would like to add.

The Music Universe: Explore more music Click to access the Music Universe, which helps you to find more music you might like. The Music Universe shows a network of similar artists. Thick relationship lines mark similar artists and the size of a picture indicates the popularity of an artist. You can decide whether to display more similar or more popular artists. Wishes and wishlists A wish is a song, an album or an artist that you would like to have in your collection. All your wishes are organized and managed on wishlists. Fulfilling music wishes When you enter items on your wishlist, Audials One will record music and music videos from Internet radio stations and web sites like Youtube, automatically. Use the Music wishes view to, for example, get all the media files from a specific artist. 1. In the navigation, click Music wishes. 2. On the wishlist toolbar, click Music wishes to open the Artist Browser. 3. Enter a wish by any of the following means: Type in the Search for artists, albums or songs: box, select one of the search proposals, and click Wish. Browse the lists of, for example, popular artists or artists from a certain genre. Select an album or title from the displayed discographies, and click Wish. The selected item is marked with a magic wand symbol.

Music wishes 32 Repeat step 3 on page 31 to add more wishes. 4. Close the Artist Browser. Note that all your entered wishes are listed on your wishlist. 5. Optional: Music wishes settings according to your needs. Audials One starts searching for your music wishes and records them, as soon as they're available on one of the selected sources. FAQs about music wishes The Artist Browser does not contain my wish. What gives? The data for the proposals and recommendations is automatically updated on a regular basis. It may take some time for a brand new album, song or artist, to be included. Audials One can fulfill artist and song wishes that are not yet included in the proposal and recommendation functions. Simply type in such wishes, directly. Music wishes settings Audials One's wishes settings allow you to control the speed of wish fulfilling, the format and the quality of the recordings, and also to filter out certain unwanted content.

Music wishes 33 Sources Select which file formats you would like to use a source material, and which sources Audials One should use to record wishes from. In the upper right of the Music wishes view, click Manage sources. Rule of thumb: the more sources allowed, the more wishes can be fulfilled quickly. But also, the lower the quality of the recorded files. Tip: The More settings >> page gives you full control over radio station quality and music website content. Avoid getting home-made cover versions from music websites Some music websites deliver a large quantity of mixed-quality content, like home-made cover versions, for example. Audials One's fulfill algorithm gives you control over loading that kind of content. In the upper right of the Music wishes view, click Manage sources. Under Music websites, click Configure... Tip: Set the fulfill algorithm to load the artists' official releases (discography), and only versions matching the track name. This significantly reduces loading inofficial additional content, such as cover songs, remixes, etc. Filters Audials One's filter settings automatically discard certain recordings which you do not want to keep. In the upper right of the Music wishes view, click Fulfill... Output format Set the output format to Universal (MP3/MP4). Filtering recordings from Radio and Music wishes Audials One's filter settings automatically discard certain recordings which you do not want to keep. Podcasts are regular broadcasts on a specific topic, like news, sports, music, comedy and so on. Podcast shows are called episodes. Navigating through the Podcasts view The Podcasts view organizes podcasts into categories. This is how you navigate through the Podcasts view: To get back to the home view, any time, click. To go back to the previous category, any time, click. The navigation path right above the station list always tells the category you are currently in. You can add categories to the home view, to be able to open them with just a single click. To add a category, navigate to it and click. Favoring and subscribing Favor Subscribe If you favor a podcast, the podcast will be added to your favorites. If you subscribe to a podcast, Audials One will always download the latest episode of

Podcasts 38 this podcast automatically, as soon as it is available. The podcast will also be added to your favorites. Audials One offers you a legal way of saving streamed content to your computer. With Audials One, you can record music, TV shows, movies, and basically all audio and video streams delivered from streaming services and websites. Recording audio streams With Audials One's Save music view, you can record music from audio streaming services and websites. 1. In the navigation, click Save music. 2. Optional: Set the output format to Universal (MP3/MP4). 3. Click Audio/ Music recording and select a recording tool or website or source to record from. Click the source quickstart option you want to record from, for example Spotify. If none of the quickstart options fits, click Select recording tool and choose the tool that seems best suitable to you. In case of doubt, try the tools from top to bottom.

As soon as Audials One is ready for recording, start playing back the content you would like to record. For Sound recording / Continuous sound recording: Prepare the program you want to record from (for example Spotify): Set playback volume to 100%. If the program offers options for gapless playback or crossfading, make sure to deactivate both options. You can usually find the options in Edit > Preferences... > Playback. To avoid recording sound from other programs, exit these programs (for example messenger programs, other media players,...). All detected files are listed in the Save music view and, depending on the recording tool and your settings, automatically saved on your computer and listed in the Player after a while. FAQs about recording audio streams The recommended tool doesn't detect the file I want to record. What gives? Try to record using the tools Sound recording / Continuous sound recording. Muting the recording With the brand new mute option, you can now record audio streams from music services from the background. Audials One registers the audio stream from websites or players and records them in the background without bothering you. Restriction: The mute option is only available for Sound recording / Continuous sound recording.

Click again to unmute. Recognizing and suppressing ads Many music services play short advertisement and teasers between songs. Audials One recognizes such ads and highlights them. Tip: Audials One records the language that is played back. Audials One records the video resolution that is played back. Many sources automatically switch to a higher resolution when enlarging the video window. Other sources offer an option or setting for selecting the resolution. You can watch the video while it is recording. You can watch it in full screen to maximize recording quality. If you experience performance issues, reduce the video window size. If you don't want to watch while recording, you can switch off the monitor and your speakers. The recording is finished as soon as Audials One indicates so, and/or shortly after the video has finished playing. All detected files are listed in the Save video view and, depending on the recording tool and your settings, automatically saved on your computer and listed in the Player after a while.

Recording audio and video streams 46 Recording from screen Some videos cannot be detected automatically. In this case you can record the video with the Record from screen function. The Record from screen function records everything you see and hear. That means, for example, that the controls of the video player will be recorded whenever they are visible. Also, incidental noises, such as those from a chat program, will also be recorded. Important: Close other programms during the recording process to avoid disruptions. 1. In the navigation, click Save video. 2. Optional: Set the output format to Universal (MP3/MP4). 3. Click Video recording, then click Select recording tool, and then click Record from screen, manual mode. A small window with controls and information for detecting the recording area and starting the recording is displayed. 4. Play back the desired video in your web browser, and click Detect. Audials One detects the video area and marks it with a blue border. 5. Pause the video, and rewind it to the beginning, or to the point you want the recording to start from, respectively. 6. Click Record, and play back the video. Audials One stops the recording automatically shortly after the video has finished playing. You can also stop the recording yourself, at any point. Downloading a Youtube video The easiest way to download a Youtube video is to copy & paste the video link into Audials One, and have it downloaded. 1. In the navigation, click Save video. 2. Select a Youtube video. 3. Copy the URL of the Youtube video from the adress bar of your browser. 4. Click to paste the link in the Paste a video URL text box. 5. Click.

Converter 48 Converter Convert media files to other formats. This makes your media collection playable on all your devices. Convert your media files: Convert media files to a format compatible with a special playback device, for example an MP3 player. Convert media files to unrestricted file formats like MP3, WMA AAC and others... How can I find out which output formats are supported by my playback devices? External devices use preferred formats for playing back media files (e.g. AAC/M4A used by the ipod). To find out which output formats are supported by your playback devices, or which formats work with those devices best, check the manufacturer's information. Audials One offers Conversion Presets which work well for the most popular devices. Important: For files marked with a padlock symbol, you need to be able to play them back in order to have Audials One convert them by re-recording. For all files marked with a padlock symbol, please make sure that you have sufficient rights to play the files with your playback software before you continue. Remember to check your music service subscriptions, too. 6. On the bottom of the Audials One window, click Format: (see Figure 12: Setting a target format on page 52) and select a conversion profile or set custom settings. 7. Click OK. 8. Click Start to start the converting process. Note: For best results, do not perform other tasks which would cause processor workload during the conversion.

Converter 52 All files that finished converting move from the input list to the Player. Tip: The original file is not modified by the conversion. This guarantees you cannot destroy any file. If a conversion result does not meet your expectations, simply convert the original file once more, using different settings. Converter 53 Converting an audiobook Audials One allows you to record audiobooks, to convert them into formats that you can play on all your devices. 1. In the navigation, click Converter. 2. Optional: Set the output format to Universal (MP3/MP4). 3. Click Audiobooks. Audials One's audiobook wizard appears and guides you through the steps to prepare the playback software and start the recording. During the virtual burning process, Audials One converts all files from the playlist to the format you have selected. All files that finished converting appear in the Player. FAQs about audiobooks Recording runs in real-time. Is there any way to speed things up? This is not possible, generally speaking. Audials One automatically records audiobooks as fast as possible, while still making sure the recording mechanism is legal.
