Limited User Rights Workaround Revision 2 Problem: When you try to start the software on a Windows 2000/XP PC using an account that does not have Administrator Privileges you get an Unknown error message. This problem only occurs on hard drives that have been formatted as NTFS. It appears to have something to do with the extra security that this file system has. Solution: The Problem can be solved by allowing the user to have Modify and Write permissions for the Janome installation folder. Proposed Workaround: Proposed workaround solutions cover both topologies: Domain Standalone Known Limitations: Windows XP: The Failed to update system registry, please try using regedit error message does not get removed by using this workaround. User should press OK to close the dialog. The workaround will remove the access violation and the user will be able to start the software, but as stated above the regedit message will still appear. However, it does not stop the software from functioning correctly most of the time. Support Note Page 1 of 7
