Referring to Drug and Alcohol Treatment and Working Together for Information for London Partner Agencies JOINT WORKING FOR SHARED OUTCOMES Since April 2013, the commissioning of drug and alcohol treatment services has been the responsibility of local Health and Well Being Boards convened by Local Authorities and led by local Directors of Public Health. Funding passes down via the local Public Health Grant, and there is an opportunity for local areas to bring together a range of resources to align the commissioning of drug and alcohol services with other health provision and to deliver in partnership with other crucial reintegration services such as housing, employment and family support. It is acknowledged by all partners that outcomes will be more effectively delivered by joint working at both a strategic and delivery level. Local agencies are strongly encouraged to work with local substance misuse strategy and planning groups to ensure that local priorities to address a range of issues such as unemployment, offending, alcohol related hospital admissions and substance misuse are aligned. The key contact for local partners in engaging with local drug strategy and commissioning is the Joint Commissioning for Substance Misuse, whose contact details for each borough are overleaf. What is also crucial, as a basic working principle, is that local agencies are confident in referring to local drug and alcohol treatment services once substance misuse is identified as an issue. This list of contacts provides a clear referral route to support individuals identified as having drug or alcohol problems into appropriate treatment. It is expected that this list will be used by key partner organisations such as Jobcentre Plus and Work Programme providers as well as any other local agencies that may come into contact with individuals who need swift, direct access into drug and alcohol treatment.
