What is a rdic Ecoabeed aundry detergent or stain remover? Ecoabeed aundry detergent and stain removers are amongst the products with the east impact on the environment within their category. The rdic Ecoabe provides a guarantee that the product fufis strict environmenta requirements and that satisfactory performance is documented through standardized testing. The environmenta requirements incude restrictions on the dosage, ensuring that ony concentrated products are eigibe for the ecoabe, restrictions on the quantity of environmentay harmfu substances and the quantity of substances that are not readiy degradabe in aquatic environments. The performance requirements impy that the products must perform satisfactory. Cooursafe detergents must be tested at 30 ºC, ensuring that the energy consumption in the use phase is minimized if used correcty. Mandatory consumer guidance for sustainabe use of the products is incuded to encourage correct dosing and fiing of the machine. Requirements to the packaging optimize the fiing of the packs and the use of packaging materia. The ecoabe criteria for aundry detergents and stain removers have traditionay had a high focus on the environmenta properties of the ingredients in the products. In this version of the criteria, particuar emphasis has been paced on dosage, documentation of performance at reduced temperature for cooursafe detergents and guidance to the consumer for sustainabe use, as we as an overa good environmenta profie of the ingredients. Laundry detergents and stain removers carrying the rdic Ecoabe are: Highy concentrated Fufiing strict requirements regarding biodegradabiity and aquatic toxicity Efficient at 40 ºC or beow Why choose the rdic Ecoabe? The products may use the rdic Ecoabeing trademark for marketing. The rdic Ecoabe is a very we-known and we-reputed trademark in the rdic region. The rdic Ecoabe is a cost-effective and simpe way of communicating environmenta work and commitment to customers and suppiers. Environmenta issues are compex. It can take a ong time and extensive resources to gain an understanding of a specific area. rdic Ecoabeing faciitates this process. The rdic Ecoabe not ony covers environmenta issues but aso quaity requirements, since the environment and quaity often go hand in hand. This means that a rdic Ecoabe icence can aso be seen as a mark of quaity. rdic Ecoabeing of Laundry detergents and stain removers 7.7 3 (23)

What can carry the rdic Ecoabe? The product group aundry detergents and stain removers encompasses aundry detergents and stain removers in powder, tabets, iquids, ge or any other form. The products sha be used for washing of texties, and are intended to be used in househod machines, but not excuding the use in aunderettes and common aundries. The ecoabe criteria distinguish between heavy-duty detergents and ow-duty detergents. Heavy-duty detergents are defined as detergents used for reguar washing of white and coored texties at any temperature. Low-duty detergents are defined as detergents promoting specia fabric care: e.g. use for deicate fabrics such as viscose, woo, sik, microfiber or other fabric requiring specia care. Specia care coud be e.g. no beach, no enzymes and gente wash in excess water. Liquid detergents for norma washing of white and coored texties are not considered ow-duty detergents. The product group does not comprise products that are excusivey used for handwashing and products that are dosed via carriers such as sheets, coths or other materias. The product group does not comprise mutipe function detergents such as 2 in 1 products with both detergent and fabric softening effects/caims. Products for professiona aundries can not be abeed according to this criteria document. rdic Ecoabeing has criteria for Laundry detergents for professiona use. How to appy Each requirement is marked with the etter R (requirement) and a number. A requirements must be fufied to be awarded a icence. The requirements section can aso be used as a checkist. Each requirement is foowed by two checkboxes, and, to indicate whether the requirement is met. Icons in the text The text describes how the appicant sha demonstrate fufiment of each requirement. There are aso icons in the text to make this cearer. These icons are: ( Encose The requirement checked on site Appication Appications are made to the nationa ecoabeing organisation and the appication is vaid for 12 months. Appications may be processed by another ecoabeing organisation according to agreement between the organisations. The appicant is notified of this. Companies ocated outside the rdic countries make appications to the nationa ecoabeing organisation of the primary market. rdic Ecoabeing of Laundry detergents and stain removers 7.7 4 (23)

The appication must consist of a competed appication form together with a of the documentation required to demonstrate compiance with the requirements specified in the criteria document (this is specified for each requirement). The appication form must specify in which rdic countries the products in question are to be sod and the estimated turnover from the products in each country. Further information and assistance may be avaiabe. Visit the reevant nationa website for information. Saes in the rdic region Once granted, a icence is vaid throughout the rdic region. The icence document specifies in which rdic countries the products are sod according to the information provided on the appication. The products are pubished on rdic Ecoabeing s website(s). The icensee undertakes to inform rdic Ecoabeing of any changes as to where the product is sod. If the product is to be sod in other rdic countries than those initiay specified in the appication, the icensee must provide written notification of this and submit any extra documentation required to rdic Ecoabeing in the country that issued the icense. On-site inspection In connection with handing of the appication, rdic Ecoabeing normay performs an on-site inspection to ensure adherence to the requirements. For such an inspection, data used for cacuations, origina copies of submitted certificates, test records, purchase statistics, and simiar documents that support the appication must be avaiabe for examination. Costs An appication fee is charged to companies appying for a icence. There is an additiona annua fee based on the turnover of the rdic ecoabeed aundry detergents and stain removers. Enquiries Pease contact rdic Ecoabeing if you have any queries or require further information. See page 2 for addresses. What are the requirements of rdic Ecoabeing? To be awarded a rdic Ecoabe icence: A requirements must be fufied. rdic Ecoabeing must inspect the site of production. rdic Ecoabeing of Laundry detergents and stain removers 7.7 5 (23)

1 Environmenta requirements The ecoabe criteria for aundry detergents and stain removers are based on a functiona unit expressed in g/kg wash (grams per kiograms wash), this is caed the reference dosage. The reference dosage used for cacuation of the environmenta requirements sha correspond to the dosage used in the performance test in g/kg wash as we as the dosage recommended by the manufacturer to consumers on the package. For in-wash stain removers the dosage recommended by the producer is used. For stain removers that are used as pre-treatment the dosage is estimated to a dosage of 2 m per appication and 6 appications per wash in a 4,5 kg machine. The performance must be documented according to the present rdic Ecoabe Criteria (Appendix 5), which uses soft water (5.5 dh). The chemica requirements regarding dosage, toxicity and biodegradabiity in chapter 1.3 are based on the recommended dosage for soft water. The on-pack recommended dosage for aundry detergents is often stated for different intervas of wash oads, e.g. 3-5 kg or 6-8 kg. The reference dosage used for the performance test and for cacuation of the ecoogica criteria must, however, correspond to the average oad size. If the dosage is e.g. 50 g per 3-5 kg, then a dosage of 50 g/4 kg = 12.5 g/kg wash must be used to demonstrate performance and for cacuation of the environmenta requirements. Uness otherwise specified, the requirements in Chapter 1 appy to a ingoing substances in the fina product (aundry detergent/stain remover). The term ingoing substances refers to a substances in the ingredients incuding additives (such as preservatives and stabiisers) but does not incude impurities from primary production. Impurities are defined as residua products from primary production that can be found in the fina product in concentrations 100 ppm (0.010 wt%, 100 mg/kg ). Substances that are added intentionay to an ingredient or to the product are not considered impurities irrespective of their concentration. Impurities present in concentrations > 1.0% in the raw materia shoud be counted as an ingoing substance. Even known substances reeased from constituent ingredients are considered as ingoing substances. For cacuation of the chemica requirements, reference is made to the Detergents Ingredient Database ist (DID ist), which is further described in Appendix 1. The DID ist contains the most widey used ingredients used in detergent formuations. For substances not present on the DID ist, guidance is given on how to cacuate or extrapoate the reevant data. If a substance is isted on the DID ist, the DID ist vaues are to be used. The DID ist is avaiabe at the websites of the rdic Ecoabeeing. The DID ist adopted at January 2007 or ater versions wi appy for cacuation of the ecoogica criteria. 1.1 Product description R1 Description of the product and packaging The fu formuation of the product and a description of the primary packaging must be submitted to rdic Ecoabeing. Aquatic toxicity (Acute/Chronic) Acute aquatic toxicity is tested using OECD guideine for testing of chemicas. 201, 202 and 203 or other equivaent test methods. Chronic toxicity is tested using OECD guideine for testing of chemicas. 210, 211, 215, 229 or other equivaent methods. rdic Ecoabeing of Laundry detergents and stain removers 7.7

Bioaccumuabiity Uness evidence to the contrary is presented, the substance wi be considered to be bioaccumuabe if ogk ow = 4.0 in accordance with OECD guideine for testing of chemicas 107 or 117 or the equivaent. The bioaccumuabiity of a substance of this nature may be tested on fish in accordance with OECD guideine for testing of chemicas. 305 A-E. If the bioconcentration factor (BCF) of the substance is = 500, the substance wi be viewed as bioaccumuabe, and if BCF < 500 the substance wi be viewed as non-bioaccumuabe. Where a BCF vaue is avaiabe, the highest measured BCF vaue shoud be used instead of ogk ow. This means that a substance with a ogk ow 4.0 is not considered as bioaccumuative if the highest BCF is < 500. OECD test method 107 is not suitabe for use on surface active substances with both oi and water soube properties. Given the current state of knowedge, evidence providing a high degree of certainty must be presented to show that such substances and their degradation products do not represent a ong-term hazard to organisms in aquatic environments. The DID ist The DID is a joint ist for the EU Ecoabeing scheme and rdic Ecoabeing. The ist was deveoped in co-operation with interested parties both from consumer and environmenta organisations and the industry, and contains information on the toxicity and degradabiity of a number of substances that coud be used in chemica products. The substances contained in the DID ist do not express the substances found in ecoabeed products. The DID ist cannot be used for documenting the toxicity of individua substances for the purposes of the cassification rues. Information must be taken from product safety data sheets, from the itterature or obtained from raw materia manufacturers for this purpose. If a substance is found on the DIDist the data on the DIDist must be used. The DID ist is avaiabe from the ecoabeing organisation or via the websites of the individua countries, see page 2. For these criteria the DID ist adopted at January 2007 or ater versions wi appy. 1B) Performance testing of aundry detergents and stain removers Requirements for aboratories used for performance testing The test aboratory must fufi the genera requirements contained in the EN /ISO/IEC 17025 standard or ISO9001 or have GLP status. Provided that the foowing requirements have been met, the manufacturer s test aboratory may be approved to perform tests used as documentation of performance: The ecoabeing organisation must have access to monitor the performance of the test. The ecoabeing organisation must have access to a data on the product and a test resuts (raw data). The tests must be anonymised for the test aboratory. The performance of the performance tests must be described in the quaity contro system. rdic Ecoabeing of Laundry detergents and stain removers 7.7

1 Summary of the performance test The performance test must be performed in accordance with this appendix. The ceaning effect is partiay based on EN 60456 and measured after 5 wash cyces. The secondary effects are measured in accordance with ISO 4312 and measured after 10 wash cyces. Deviations from the specified standards are described in this appendix. The performance test has been designed for testing detergents for coour and white wash in accordance with the product group definition in the Section headed What products may be ecoabeed. The method is not designed for use on specia aundry detergents for deicate texties such as woo and sik, see Appendix 6B. The ceaning effect for cooursafe detergents are determined by washing soied coths (strips) in a washing machine at 30 C* using a specified programme and are evauated by means of a comparison of the wash resuts of the test product with the resuts produced by a reference product at 40 C. For detergents for white wash the performance is tested by washing soied coths (strips) in a washing machine at 40 C* using a specified programme and is evauated by means of a comparison of the wash resuts of the test product with the resuts produced by a reference product at 40 C. *With cod-water products for which it is stated on the packaging, or in some other form of marketing, that the product can be used for cod wash (e.g. cod-water wash or equivaent wording or symbo that indicates a norma usage temperature of < 30 C), the washing performance wi be determined at the owest stated temperature at which the detergent is caimed to be effective and maximum at 20 C. The reference detergent must sti be tested at 40 C. Before the test starts, the washing machine must be put through a ceaning programme. The reference product, water and test product must be tested in the foowing order: First the test product, then the reference product and finay 5 wash cyces for primary effect pus 5 extra cyces for secondary effects. After each wash cyce a ceaning programme must be run. A aundry detergent with poor dispersion abiity or high oxidization capacity may cause secondary effects, which do not become apparent unti after many washes. The secondary effects that are to be measured are: Greying, encrustation and chemica wear. These are measured after ten wash cyces with the test product. At east five of these washes must be from the testing of ceaning effect. The performance test described in this appendix is based on a tota of 4.5 kg of aundry for Wascator and 3.5 kg of aundry for Miee votronic (other cacuations in this criteria document are based on 1 kg of aundry). rdic Ecoabeing of Laundry detergents and stain removers 7.7

2 Washing machines and wash programmes 2.1 Washing machines The reference machine must meet the requirements of EN 60456:2005, Annex A, Tabe 1A. Wascator FOM 71 MP fufis these requirements. Later modes of Wascator may be used instead. There is no need for a test with water if a Wascator FOM 71 MP is used. Aternativey a Miee votronic W375 may be used (technica specifications: Programmabe eectronic washing machine with connection to drainage outet and set at medium performance) or other modes of Miee e.g. W3375 (has repaced W3365) or oder modes such as WM918, WM986, W5000-series or W3365. *Programmabe eectronic Miee househod washing machines with a rated capacity of 5 6 kg which fufi the foowing requirements: Cotton wash program (at 40 ºC, 30ºC, 20ºC 1, 15ºC 1 ) Deicate program 2 (at 30ºC, 20ºC 1, 15ºC 1 ) Duration Main Wash 50 70 min 30 40 min Tota Program Duration 100 120 min 55 65 min Water Quantity Main Wash 15 ± 2 20 ± 2 Tota Water Quantity 55 ± 5 64 ± 5 Number of Rinse Cyces 3 3 Fina spin speed 1200 rpm 600 rpm 1 For cod water products 2 Some newer Miee washing machines offer an equivaent synthetic program If more than one machine is used the wash cyces must be run on different machines in order to prevent effects caused by specific differences between the washing machines. However, the same type of machine has to be used in the same test. 2.2 Wash programmes Ceaning program Reference machine Domestic machine Wash programme for cotton at 60 C. Wash with reference detergent without beach: 19 g IEC-A*/kg. Wash programme for cotton in accordance with EN 60456:2005, Annex A, tabe A2 with the foowing modifications: The washing temperature sha be max. 40 C and the washing time is 30 minutes. Wash programme for a norma cotton wash at max. 40 C. 3 Water quaity Water with a hardness of 5.5 dh ± 0.5 equivaent to 1.0 mmo CaCO 3 / must be used. The temperature shoud be 15 C ± 2 and ph must be 7-9. rdic Ecoabeing of Laundry detergents and stain removers 7.7

4 Materias The fronts of the test strip must be marked before washing. Test materias must be handed and stored in accordance with the manufacturer s recommendations. Test materias from the same batch must be used in a washes (this is particuary important for test strips). 4.1 Laundry Preparation of the baast: Before the start of the wash cyces the standard cotton strips (untreated contro strips wfk 11A) for a products incuding the reference and huckaback towes to be used as support for the soi strips must be washed three times at 95 C cotton programme without prewash (the water pus on the Miee votronic W375 and other Miee machines must be pressed). The basic powder from the ECE standard for coour fastness (without beach, phosphate and optica brightener) must be used at a dose of 91.0 g per 4 kg aundry (detergents in accordance with ISO 6330 must be used). The standard cotton strips must not be ironed unti after the third wash (setting: 2 dots without steam). The oad distribution specified for the abovementioned standard must be used in the case of the domestic machine but not in the case of the Wascator. The specification of the baast must fufi EN 60456, Section 6.1.1. Baast must not be switched between the test products each test product accordingy has its own baast. This means that there are in tota two or three baasts: one for the reference detergent, one for the test detergent and - if a Wascator is not used - one for water. The aundry oad comprises: test strips (see Section 4.2), artificia sois (see Section 4.2), two sheets, six piowcases and sufficient towes and contro strips wfk 11A (test products ony) to make up a 4.5 kg oad of washing. In order to fi up a machine with 3.5 kg oad there has to be used 2 sheets, 3 piowcases and a sufficient amount of towes and contro strips wfk 11A (ony for test products). The baast (sheets, piowcases and towes) must be handed in accordance with EN 60456, Section 6. 4.2 Test strips and contro strips The ceaning effect is determined by using test strips comprising sampes of soied standard texties. Test strips have to be standardized of the types sod by WfK, Empa, CFT or simiar companies. This means that the soi strips have good sensitivity, a wide measuring area and are reproducibe. It must be proven if soi strips are not used from Empa, WfK or CFT. Each soi strip measures 100x100 mm ± 5 mm and they are stitched together so that they make a fu test strip. Four whoe test strips must be incuded in each wash, each stitched to the ongest side of a towe. Artificia baast sois (added to each wash): To gain information on the anti-depositing capacity of the detergent during the test and its easticity to soi aundry, artificia sois are added. This represents the type (sebum, pigment, grease, protein, starch, sats etc.) and quantity (tota 40 g) of sois that are generay found in normay soied aundry. It must be added to each wash cyce eveny distributed in the washing drum. Ready mixed sois are avaiabe from WfK (wfk SBL2004), consisting of a mixture of sebum, pigment and greasy sois, proteins and starch and sats on cotton. In this case 4 pieces of wfk SBL2004 anaogous to 32 gram of sois have to be added to a Wascator and 3 pieces of wfk SBL2004 equivaent to 24 grams of soiing to a Miee. rdic Ecoabeing of Laundry detergents and stain removers 7.7

Secondary effects are measured on a contro strip as described in ISO 2267. A contro strip measuring approximatey 40x90 cm is incuded in the wash for the test detergents ony. Artificia baast sois must be added. 4.3 The reference detergent Reference detergent, IEC-A*, consists according to the standard EN 60456:2005 appendix F of the foowing: Linear sodium aky benzene suphonate 8.8% Ethoxyated fatty acoho C12-18 (7 EO) 4.7% Sodium soap 3.2% Anti foam DC2-4248S 3.9% Sodium auminium siicate zeoote 4A 28.3% Sodium carbonates 11.6% Sodium sat of a copoymer from acryic and maeic acid (Sokaan CP5) 2.4% Sodium siicate 3.0% Carboxymethyceuose 1.2% Phosphonate, Dequest 2066 2.8% Optica brightener 0.2% Sodium suphate 6.5% Enzyme, protease 0.4% Tota Base Powder 77% Perborate 20.0% TAED 3.0% The reference detergent, IEC-A*, is deivered in three separate parts consisting of the basic powder, perborate and TAED. If the function reates to the aundry detergent consisting of beaching agents, the reference detergent s basic powder has to be added perborate and TAED in the described proportion (quantity is described in the passage beow). Laundry detergents, not containing beaching agents have to be tested against the reference detergent s basic powder without containing perborate and TAED, see section beow. This appies to iquid detergents that are marketed as products for white wash (white, utra or equivaent) that do not contain beaching agents. Such products sha be tested against the reference detergent s basic powder without containing perborate and TAED but test strips for measurement of beach effect sha be incuded in the test. Dosage for the reference detergent Reference washing machine (4.5 kg oad) Reference detergent with beaching agent (basic powder added perborate and TAED) consisting of: 86.7 g IEC-A* (basic powder), 22.5 g perborate and 3.3 g TAED Reference detergent without beaching agent: 85.5 g IEC-A* (basic powder) Domestic machine (3.5 kg oad) Reference detergent with beaching agent (basic powder added perborate and TAED) consisting of: 67.5 g IEC-A* (basic powder), 17.5 g perborate and 2.6 g TAED. rdic Ecoabeing of Laundry detergents and stain removers 7.7

Reference detergent without beaching agent: 66.5 g IEC-A* (basic powder). 4.4 Samping The manufacturer must ensure that the sampes of the test product are seected in a representative way, in other words the aundry detergent must be seected/purchased from three different batches and mixed to produce a representative sampe. 4.5 Test detergent If a domestic washing machine is used, the detergent is dosed in accordance with the manufacturer s recommendations for a machine size of 3.5 kg*. If a 4.5 kg machine is used, the test detergent shoud be dosed according to the foowing cacuation: (Recommended dosage at 4.5 kg) = (Recommended dosage at 3.5 kg) * 4.5/3.5 (dosage adjusted to machine size as with the reference detergent) * Dosage for 3-5kg machines is cacuated as the reference dosage, which is the dosage to 1kg aundry (see section 1 Environmenta requirements), mutipied by 3.5. If information is not given by the producer, the voume weight of the test detergent is determined according to test method ISO 697 and a representative sampe is taken in accordance with ISO 607 by the producer, or according to section 4.4. 4.6 Fiing the washing machine The washing machine is fied in accordance with EN 60456:2005 annex C5, where the method of fiing machine is handed as described in detai with photographs, the direction of the drum etc. 5 Procedure 5.1 Wash The reference detergent, test detergents and if appicabe water are tested in the foowing order: First the test product, then the reference product (5 wash cyces for primary effect pus 5 extra for secondary effect). A ceaning programme is run after each wash cyce. Ceaning effect Washes are performed with the test detergent, reference detergent. The wash cyces are run at east five times with each detergent using new test strips each time. New artificia sois are added to each wash cyce (equivaent to stain monitor). In addition it is important to add fier sois since it is not the function of the stain monitor to add the correct quantity of sois to the wash. Washes with the test detergent, reference detergent are performed five times each. Secondary effects A further five wash cyces is performed for the secondary effects where the contro strips from the ceaning effect with the test product is used. Artificia baast sois must be added (e.g. 4 pieces wfk SBL2004 in a Wascator and 3 pieces of wfk SBL2004 in a Miee). rdic Ecoabeing of Laundry detergents and stain removers 7.7

5.2 After treatment After washing the test strips and contro strips must be dried by pressing them at a temperature of between 130 C and 150 C. Press between two ayers of materias to prevent the test strips or contro strip from becoming shiny or discooured. The oad is tumbedried after each wash. 6 Evauation Cacuation of ceaning effect The product wi have fufied the performance requirements as to ceaning effect if the foowing imits are met: The difference in mean vaue for each soi type ( M) must be ess than or equivaent to 10. The difference in mean vaue between the reference detergent and the test detergent ( Y; for beach stains or stains with a genera ceaning effect) must be ess than or equivaent to 10. However, in the case of one mean vaue the resut must be ess than 20. The average of the mean vaues for each type of soiing ( M) must be ess than 5. The refectance of the washed test strips, equivaent to the measured resut Y in the CIE system, is measured after washing using a coorimeter or spectrophotometer with the foowing instrument settings: D-65, 10 Observer, refectance. Prior to each measurement the instrument must be caibrated in accordance with the manufacturer s instructions. Measurements must be taken on the front of the test strip (as marked, cf. the beginning of Section 4). Measurements are performed by pacing the test strips on top of each other in four ayers and measuring each soi in at east three paces. When using an instrument with a measurement opening of 20 mm diameter, four measurements must be taken (EN 60456: 2005, Section 8.3.4, figure 2). The mean vaue (Y) for the above measurements is taken for each test strip, in other words for each soi type attached to the test strip. In this case, with a measurement opening of 20 mm in diameter, Y is the average of four measurements per test strip per soi type. The mean vaue must be specified to one decima pace. The difference between the mean vaue for the reference detergent and the test detergent is referred to as Y. In other words: Y = Y reference Y test detergent. The overa average vaue (M type ) is cacuated on the basis of four measurements of Y per wash and soi type. M type is then cacuated for the five washes according to soi type. The difference between the mean vaue for the reference detergent and the test detergent is referred to as M. This means that: M = M reference, soi type M test product, soi type. M is determined for each type cassified as foows: beaching (red wine and tea); enzymatic, protease (egg/pigment); enzymatic, amyase (starch); genera ceaning effect (sebum/pigment on cotton, sebum/pigment on poyester/cotton and cocoa). rdic Ecoabeing of Laundry detergents and stain removers 7.7

The foowing tabe provides an exampe of how the test resuts can be presented. The figures in the tabe are an average of the four measurements registered with a 20 mm measuring instrument. Since this test is an exampe conducted on a Wascator, there are no resuts for cean water. If the performance test is performed on a Miee votronics the resuts can be presented in a simiar way with the addition of the resuts for water. Appendix 6D Stain removers used without subsequent washing This test may be used for stain removers where the textie is not subsequenty washed in a washing machine. In other words, the test is used on products that are appied directy to texties such as carpets, furniture uphostery or the ike to remove stains. Contents 1 Summary of the function test 2 Materias 3 Procedure 4 Assessment 5 Limit vaues 6 Report 1 Summary of the performance test The procedure in this test description is divided into two different methods: One is inspired by the performance test for dishwashing detergents (visua evauation); the second is inspired by the test of the performance test of stain removers with subsequent washing (mechanica evauation). In the case of the method invoving visua evauation (cf. rdic Ecoabeing s criteria for ecoabeing of dishwashing detergents), the principes in the test are that the reevant texties are soied and then ceaned in accordance with the instructions for use provided on the product. The ceaned texties are then compared with the unsoied sampes and the degree of ceanness is evauated visuay using a predetermined scae. In the case of the method using mechanica evauation (cf. Section A of the appendix) the principes in the test are that the reevant texties are soied and then ceaned in accordance with the instructions for use provided on the product. The refectance of the ceaned texties is then measured on a coorimeter or spectrophotometer and compared with mea-surements taken on unsoied texties. The product must pass the performance test for a soi types that the product is caimed to be effective on. If the product makes no caims as regards particuar types of sois, at east four different soi types must be tested and reevant reason for the choice of soi types must be stated. If no proposas for soi types are made, the foowing may be used: red wine, tea, oive oi and cocoa. Pease note however that the soi must be on the reevant textie(s). 2 Materias If the product can be used on severa different types of texties, then it must be tested on sampes of a types, e.g. carpet, curtains, furniture uphostery fabric etc. The size of the textie must be at east 100x100 mm. Tests must be conducted on three paraes. Simiary tests must be conducted using a soi types on which the product can be used. If standardised soi strips are avaiabe, these may be used, provided that the textie is equivaent to the areas of use stated on the product. rdic Ecoabeing of Laundry detergents and stain removers 7.7

3 Procedure Tests are to be conducted ony in accordance with one of the described procedures. 3.1 Method using visua evauation Each of the reevant texties (three paraes) is soied with each of the soi types on which the product is caimed to be effective. Three paraes must be conducted on each soi type and each textie. If no specific types of sois are specified on the product at east four different soi types must be tested and the reevant reasons for the choice of sois must be stated. In the absence of suggestions for sois the foowing may be used without further justifi-cation: red wine, tea, oive oi and cocoa. The textie swatches are soied with a quantity of sois equivaent to 0.2 m/cm 2, after which the textie is eft for at east 5 minutes. The textie is ceaned with the test product in accordance with the instructions for use provided on the product. The ceanness of the textie swatches is assessed visuay on a scae from 0-5 where 0 is not cean and 5 is entirey cean, using an unsoied swatch as a reference. 3.2 Method using mechanica evauation Each of the reevant textie swatches (three paraes) is soied with each of the soi types stated on the product. Three paraes must be conducted of each soi type. If no specific types of sois are specified on the product at east four different soi types must be tested and the reevant reasons for the choice of sois must be stated. In the absence of suggestions for sois the foowing may be used without further justification: red wine, tea, oive oi and cocoa.
