Course Sequence Rising 9 th Grade Student The STEM Academy is designed to prepare students for success in post-secondary education, career, and citizenship. It will appeal to students who seek a small-school approach to learning, where academicc subjects are connected, and where students are engaged in rigorous science and mathematics conten integrated with a STEM-themed pathway. STEM Endorsement Requirements for Freshman Class Entering Fall 2016 and thereafter Mathematics 6 units required (Students must take a mathematics class every year.) Honors Algebra I Honors Geometry Honors Algebra II Accelerated Pre-Calculus AP Calculus A/B AP Calculus B/C AP Statistics 5 units required (Students must take a science class every year.) Introduction to Healthcare (first course-1 unit) b. Essentials of Healthcare (second course-1 unit) c. Patient Care Fundamentals, Allied Health and Medicine, Fundamentals of Exercise Physiology or Sports Medicine (third course-1 unit) 3) Information Technology a. Introduction to Digital Technology (first course-1 unit) b. Computer Principles (second course-1 unit) c. AP Computer (third course-1 unit) 4) Fine Arts Band, Chorus or Visual Arts Scientific Research 4 units required Scientific Research I Scientific Research II Scientific Research III* Scientific Research IV* Each year, students will take 1 unit of Scientific Research. * counts as a science academic course Health/Personal Fitness 1 unit required Health (.5 unit) and Personal Fitness (.5 unit) These units may be taken for a fee during the summer. Note: STEM Academy unit requirements are used to fulfill the Effingham County School System s minimum number of 24 graduation units.
