Dear Sport Friends, Welcome to Győr, the ICF Senior, U23 and Junior Canoe Marathon World Championships in Győr. We feel proud that our town can host the most prestigious event of the canoe marathon sport. It is great pleasure for us that competitors of 40 countries from 5 continents entered the contest. We are confident to witness high-standard rivalries contested in fair manner. Despite the difficulties caused by the construction works running around the competition venue we try to do our best to ensure that both the competition participants and the spectators enjoy the time here and return home with pleasant memories. In this booklet we have summarized useful information and instructions to make your stay even more enjoyable at the competition site. Having settled the payment obligations at the Accreditation Desk and having checked the entries and personal identities, the teams receive the accreditation package containing the followings: - accreditation card - body number - preliminary competition program - Team Leaders Handbook Team Leaders are requested to take the passports / personal ID cards of the young and U23 athletes with them to the accreditation centre, where these will be photocopied for the purpose of checking the age group. Confirmation of entries Alan Laws Ruud Heijselaar 8. Other matters Jorn Cronberg Parking All teams are entitled to two parking passes at the maximum depending on the number of the entered athletes. These passes allow parking in the team parking lot marked on the map: P1 You can park the boat trailers in the area located behind the Athletes area, but after towing the boat trailers to the parking lot, vehicles have to be moved from this area. Drive-in to the trailer parking is restricted to boat trailers. Individually transported boats shall be carried to the Athletes Area manually. Boat control There is no pre-boat control. The boats finishing on places 1-4 after the finish shall embark at the disembarkation pontoon, where the boats are weighed. After the boat control the boats shall be carried to the Athletes Area manually.

Start number distribution You can start at the race exclusively wearing the start number provided by the organisers. The start numbers prepared for the different countries can be collected on Friday from 07.30 hrs at the Team Information tent. The start numbers shall be returned after the race. Upon collecting the start numbers each boat shall pay a deposit in the amount of either 3,000 HUF or 10 EUR, which is paid back upon returning the start number. The start numbers shall be placed on the rear of the boat and fixed with a screw or pin. Start procedure The boats shall line up on the start pontoon marked on the plan from left to the right according to the starting number in growing order. The boats are held in the appropriate position by boat holders. The starting orders are given in English. The start order is: Ready Go Please note rule 29 and the possibility of time penalties. Embarkation You can embark exclusively from the platform, where the officials check the boats, the athletes body numbers, accreditation and start number. The warm-up takes place behind the start pontoon! Body Number Athletes shall wear the body number received at accreditation upon embarkation and during the race fixed on their chest. Course description The race runs in the heart of Győr on the course marked on Mosoni Danube. A part of the course goes through the town, while the other is in natural surroundings. The river flows with a speed of about 5 km s per hour. The water level of the river presently and even during the race is lower than average. Depending on the category, all races comprise minimum 3, maximum 5 long (3,9 km) laps and one short (2,7 km) lap. In each case the race starts with long laps and ends with a short lap. Attention: in the first lap there is no portage! The portage is 150 m long. Disembarking and embarking take place on sandy-gravel shore. Please note rule 26 which says: Wave Riding will only be permitted on boats starting in the same start. The normal penalty for this rule infringement would be a penalty or disqualification.

Course plan

Portage rules Maximum two assistants per nation can stay in the helping area of the portage at the same time. Entering the portage is restricted to those wearing the west with the country code provided by the organisers. Wests can be collected from the designated officials and shall be returned upon leaving the area. Staying on the portage is exclusively allowed while the athletes pass. Finish zone The finish line is between two red buoys in front of the finish tower. After finishing, the finish zone and the course shall be left within the shortest time possible without disturbing the other racing competitors. There are two disembarkation pontoons. One is designated for athletes placed 1-4, which is located in front of the grand stand. All the others need to go to the pontoon at the Athletes Area. The race results shall be posted at the information tent. Victory ceremony Ceremonies are held in blocks in accordance with the time schedule of the races. Medals are presented to the teams finishing in the first three places. Medal winners are requested to show up at the meeting point for the award ceremony ten minutes before the ceremony. (see map). You are kindly requested to wear your national outfit at the ceremony, without a cap and glasses. Meals The accredited athletes having booked accommodation through the Organising Committee are entitled to have a lunch per day on race days upon reading the barcode on the accreditation card. Teams that ordered board will start with a dinner on the day of arrival and the last meal is lunch on the day of departure. Breakfast: 06:00 09:00 Lunch: 11:00 15:00 Dinner: 18:00 21:00 Breakfast is served at the accommodation or in a restaurant close to it. Lunch is served at the race course from Wednesday marked on the plan (see map: Catering) Transportation The shuttle bus runs between the race course and the official hotels as given in the attached timetable, you can get on the bus upon presenting your accreditation card.

The Organising Committee does not assume any financial obligation with regard to any hospital, dental or any other treatment, care. Doping control The athletes selected by the competition committee are subject to the doping control (se map) Boat storage Competitors can store their boats on the boat racks marked and designated to their country (located behind the Athletes area). Training possibility Training on the race course is permitted on the race days (including also the masters and para-canoe races on Wednesday and Thursday) only prior to the start of the races and after the finish of the last competitors. Training during the races is possible embarking from the Athletes Area from the bridge after Turn No. 1 downstream on the river, without interfering with the race progressing on the course. Attention: please devote increased attention to the competitors on the course upon approaching the training area. The Athletes Area is open from 06.45 hrs till 19.30, afterwards the area shall be abandoned. Boat rental In conformity with the pre-processed boat demands the rented boats can be collected on the area marked on the plan (located behind the Athletes area). Opening Ceremony All participants, competitors, coaches and officials are kindly invited to the official opening ceremony of the Canoe Marathon World Championships, which offers a spectacular entertainment programme besides the official part.
