Curriculum Vitae Dr.Alfredo Arnaud Maceira SECTION I - Personal & professional information. Name: Alfredo Arnaud Maceira. Personal address: Av.Brasil 2403/1001 CP.11300 Montevideo - Uruguay Birthday: 18 / 5 / 1971 Nationality: Uruguay Areas of work: Languages: Microelectronics, analog and mixed-mode circuit design for implantable medical applications among others; low-voltage, low power design, and MOS transistor modeling. Embedded system design, for portable and medical applications. Spanish (native), English, Portuguese, French. Member IEEE, Circuits & Systems Society, Solid-State Circuits Society Contact email: aarnaud@ucu.edu.uy Phone (office): (598) 24872717 ext.407 Academic Webpage: http://die.ucu.edu.uy/microdie Introduction Dr. Arnaud, is now with Universidad Católica del Uruguay, he has participated since 1997 in several research and development projects in the field of microelectronics and electronics in the University, and for the industry. His area of expertise is analog and mixed-mode circuit design for implantable medical, and portable applications among others (low-voltage, low power design). Dr.Arnaud received his PhD, and MSc in microelectronics from Universidad de la República, Montevideo Uruguay, in 2000 and 2004 respectively. Since 2004 he joined Electrical Engineering Department at Universidad Católica del Uruguay, where he started µdie research group (http://die.ucu.edu.uy/microdie). As an academic, Dr.Arnaud published more than 50 papers in international journals and scientific meetings; he also participated in 12 funded research projects. For the industry, Dr. Arnaud participated in design and consultancy in the field of microelectronics for implantable medical devices in five different occasions for companies in Uruguay, Brazil, Canada, and India. Dr. Arnaud also participated in the development of embedded electronics like portable POS equipment, a USB dynamic scale for medical applications, and a portable RFID reader according to ISO11784/11785 standard. Main contributions in the field of microelectronics Development with Prof.Carlos Galup, of the concept of consistent noise models. Development of continuous, consistent, one-equation for all regions, physics based models of flicker noise and mismatch in the MOS transistor. Development of micro and nano power amplifiers and filters. Development of ultra low noise, and low power amplifiers, using innovative Chopper and Autozero configurations, aimed at implantable medical devices.
Development of the series-parallel (S-P) association of transistors technique to the design of low offset circuits. Dr.Arnaud helped to demonstrate the value of using S-P transistors for the precise copy of currents in mirrors with a large copy factor, and successfully applied them to design transconductors (OTAs) equivalent to several GΩ with few mv input offset. Development of a theoretical framework for Switched-Continuous-Time-Filters (SCTF). The switch of filters is a well known technique for example to scale resistors, but the developed tools allow to explore in the frequency domain different trade-offs like aliasing, or noise, among others, in complex switched filters. Development of several circuits and circuit techniques, for a safe and reliable implementation of medical devices in high voltage (HV) integrated circuit technology. Main consultancy activity & products developed for the industry that reached production stage. Consultancy & design for Chipmate, in the design of full implantable medical device ASIC, for a company in India ( 2009-2010, team leader ). A fully ISO11784/11785 compliant portable RFID reader, for the livestock traceability (2009-2010, team leader ). A 4 channel real time precision scale to monitor patients with balance disorders. This device is part of a medical application for diagnosis and therapy of Medicaa (www.medicaa.com) which is FDA approved #K070085 ( 2006, team leader). Consultancy for Instituto Genius (Manaus-Brazil) in the field of microelectronic circuits for implantable medical applications ( 2005-2006 ). A portable custom POS device for small kiosks & street vendors in Uruguay ( 2002-2003, team leader ) Design team member of a pacemaker ASIC, for CCC del Uruguay, (1997-1999). The circuit was designed, fabricated, tested, qualified, and is being employed in commercial pacemakers from CCC (www.ccc.com.uy).
