DYESS YOUTH SPORTS VOLUNTEER COACH POSITION DISCRIPTION TITLE: Volunteer Coach for the Dyess Youth Sports Program DESCRIPTION: Coach of a youth sports team between the ages of 3 thru 18 years of age. You will be considered a role model for all athletes assigned to your team; therefore, sportsmanship, fair play, adherence to all rules and by-laws, and 100% commitment are required. RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan, organize and implement practices and games. Direct assistant coaches and team parents. Teach the young athlete the fundamentals of the sport. Encourage the involvement of the parent(s) in the sport. Schedule and conduct necessary meetings (parent meeting, end of season activities, etc.) Provide a safe and fun environment for the children. Learn and follow league rules, policies, and procedures. Ensure equal playing time for each participant. Put the feelings of the participants ahead of your desire to win. Attend all league meetings and trainings. QUALIFICATIONS: Successfully complete all necessary paperwork (application packet and background checks). Attend any scheduled coaching interviews or meetings. Successfully complete the NYSCA coach s certification training prior to sport season. Be able to put winning in its place, after the needs and wants of the players. Be patient, organized, dependable and enthusiastic. INFORMATION: As a volunteer coach of the Youth Sports Program, you are treated by local, state and federal law as being an unpaid employee of the agency with which you are associated; therefore, you must conduct yourself in the same manner as you would your own job. In the same respect, you will receive the same treatment, aside from compensation and benefits, as the employees of the Dyess Youth Sports Program and adequate training to make your experience as a volunteer coach an enjoyable one. All coaches should influence the participants through instruction, skill refinement, example and patience. Our hope is to instill lifelong leisure skills that will allow our youth to live healthy and physically fit lifestyles while enjoying the game. CERTIFICATION OF COACHES All youth sports volunteer Coaches must be certified under the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS). Each Coach attends twelve (12) hours of valuable training. Upon completion of this course, you will be certified as a NAYS Member Coach for one (1) year. All Head Coaches training costs are covered by the Youth Center. You may elect to continue membership and benefits with NAYSA after one (1) year by re-signing your conduct pledge, completing a short refresher training and paying the annual fee of $20. NOTE: Coaches desiring to be certified in an extra sport must attend NAYSA training in that sport and must pay an additional fee of $5.
