Disabled Veterans Rest Camp Association $113,034 Grant Request for Connecting boardwalk to trail system and children s recreation area Organization Description: Veterans Campground is a year-round camp that has been providing recovery and recreational facilities and activities for military Veterans since 1926, with the majority of those served having a militaryrelated disability. The camp provides activities and programs such as hiking, swimming, fishing, camping, etc. that bring Veterans together for recovery. The camp is also open to Veteran families and public guests. Description of Mission The mission of this 501(c)(3) organization is to provide recovery and recreation to military veterans and their families as part of the continuous reintegration process. People affected by the project for which this grant is requested? The campground has over 9,000 veteran and guest visitors annually. In both 2012 and 2013 the camp has seen a greater number of elderly veterans from the Vietnam era, as well as next generation veterans who have made Veterans Campground their venue for rest, recovery, and recreation with their families. Those include veterans of the Iraqi and Afghanistan campaigns these past 11 years. The camp was originally established for disabled military veterans. Today it is open to: Active duty, Past military service Disabled veterans Non-military guests Guard/Reserves Retired military Veteran families Minnesota is home to over 427,500 veterans (8% of state population), with the vast majority living within 40 minutes from Veterans Campground. Veterans Campground hosts various activities each year that benefit groups such as Gone Fishing, in which handicapped adults and youth are provided recovery and recreation through a host of volunteers, and overnight recreation and fishing events for disabled veterans from state Veterans Homes and the VA Hospital. Additionally, when children are missing a parent due to a military deployment, and sometimes it is their only parent, they do not have the same opportunities for outdoor and land stewardship activities.

Amount of grant requested: The Disabled Veterans Rest Camp Association respectfully asks for a grant in the amount of $113,034. Names and qualifications of individuals who would administer the grant: Members of the Disabled Veterans Rest Camp Board of Directors are representatives of veteran service organizations and/or local governments, and are nominated by their respective organizations.
