8 Federal Veterans Benefits RESULTS Contributing to the economic stability of veterans, their dependents and survivors by assisting them in securing federal benefits to which they may be entitled Build the Community 524 new claims were made for service-connected disability compensation or non-service connected disability pension or increased evaluations for existing claims. 122 claims for death benefits, Death Pension or Dependency and Indemnity Compensation were made 66 Formal appeals and Notice of Disagreements were filed on behalf of veterans, their dependents and survivors whose claims for benefits were improperly adjudicated 30 letters were sent to recently discharged veterans in an effort to inform them of the benefits that they may be entitled to and the services we can provide Manage the Resources Attained cost effectiveness ratio of 1 to 96 for FY Simply put, for every dollar Olmsted County budgeted for Veterans Services, we brought back $96.00 in federal dollars. Run the Business Develop the Employees For FY 2009, Olmsted County veterans, their dependents and survivors received $14,777, in disability compensation, pension, education and death benefits. An increase of more than $2,177, over FY 2008 s expenditures. Veterans Services Supervisor is accredited by the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs, the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers, the VFW, DAV, AmVets, American Legion, Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Vietnam Veterans of America. Veterans Services Officer is accredited by Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs, the National 8 Association of County Veterans Service Officers, the VFW, DAV, American Legion, Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Vietnam Veterans of America.
9 State Soldiers Assistance Programs Strategic PRIORITIES Assist low-income and disabled veterans, their dependents and survivors with short term subsistence grants, dental assistance, optical assistance, educational assistance and one-time Special Needs Grants. Build the Community Assist veterans in making claims for temporary financial assistance, dental, optical and education programs from the Minnesota Department t of Veterans Affairs Manage the Resources Secure all available grants from the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs. Run the Business Favorable results for Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs expenditures in Olmsted County Develop the Employees Have workforce meet the annual certification requirements of the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs 9

Build the Community 159 new applications were processed for Olmsted County residents seeking VA healthcare enrollment Another 38 Olmsted County residents were assisted with their annual enrollment recertification, also known as the Means Test for continued VA healthcare benefits entitlement Provided transportation to 972 veterans requiring access to care at the Minneapolis VA hospital Manage the $19, was secured in voluntary donations to our Veterans Transport Van Fund Resources Run the Business For FY 2009, Olmsted County veterans, their dependents and survivors received $7,980, in VA healthcare benefits. An increase of more than $774, over FY 2008 s expenditures.
