B. Academic Information Academic Calendar Study Load Spring Semester: Beginning-March to Late-June Fall Semester: Beginning-Sep to Late-December Minimum study load is 1 to 3 credits for 1 regular course. Maximum study load allowed per semester is 18 credits (Usually 3 credits per 3 hours/1 week) * Other than the regular courses, exchange student can take the Korean language class(12 credits awarded / 200 hours for 10 weeks) at Korean language center in Gachon University. The cost is waived for ONE term per 1 semester, but if student wants to take the Korean language class additionally, he/she has to pay for the tuition fee by himself/herself. Language of Institution Korean (Major Courses taught in English are around 50 per semester) * Business, Tourism Management, Engineering are specialized English Course list & Description The list of major courses taught in English for exchange students is confirmed a month before the starting of each semester. Exchange student can choose the courses upon the arrival. Grading System Letter Grade Percentage A+ 4.5 95~100 A 4.0 90~94 B+ 3.5 85~89 B 3.0 80~84 C+ 2.5 75~79 C 2.0 70~74 D+ 1.5 65~69 D 1.0 60~64 F 0.0 0~59 Academic Transcript An original academic transcript written in English will be mailed to the home university within 2 months after the semester is completed.

International Exchange Program Study Period Tuition Accommodation Visa Requirements Health Insurance Requirements Medical Check-up One semester or up to Two semesters * Student has to decide the period before applying for GU It is not allowed to extend one more semester upon arrival. 100% tuition waived up to two semesters All incoming exchange students can apply for the on-campus housing, but the room type shall not be guaranteed. If the student wants to choose other room type, he/she has to make up the difference Students need to obtain the D-2 visa with the admission and invitation letter which will be issued by GU. Students are advised to contact Korean embassy in their home country for more detailed information. It is required for exchange student to register health insurance in their home country and send a copy of the policy showing his/her name before or upon arrival to OIA. The documents must be accompanied with an English translation if it is not in English. According to Korean Government regulation, students from certain designed countries will need to get re-tested for tuberculosis at the district public health center in Korea upon arrival. It costs around 3,000 Korean Won(1 photo is needed) The designated countries are: China, Sri Lanka, Russia, Uzbekistan, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Nepal, Indonesia, Pakistan, Mongolia, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Malaysia.
All students who stay in Korea for more than 90 days must apply for the alien registration card within 90 days of entry. It usually takes 3 to 4 weeks for the card to be issued. Alien Registration Services for Exchange students Students are required to bring the documents - Passport, 1 photo, Certificate of an exchange student, Certificate of a tuberculosis test for designated countries, 30,000 Korean Won as an application fee Free Airport pick-up at Incheon Airport Orientation & Campus tour Buddy Matching program D. Application Nomination Deadline Partner universities need to discuss the number of students before the nomination and should email nominated students information to OIA before sending the original documents. Spring Semester: December 1 st Fall Semester: June 1 st How to apply Submit the original documents of the below documents. All documents should be written in English or Korean Application form Dormitory Application form Academic Transcript in English Certificate of Registration in English Official letter of Recommendation in English Copy of Passport Copy of Health Insurance Proof of Language Proficiency(Optional) : Korean/English Eligibility Language Requirement Exchange students must be nominated by GU s partner universities Exchange students must be full-time students in one of GU partner universities and have completed at least 1 semester of study at home university. Students are not required to provide proof of English proficiency, but they have to have English or Korean skills in order to take courses in GU
