Backup & Disaster Recovery

Backup & Disaster Recovery You already know that a security breach could cost you loss of critical data, your customers, your reputation, and even your business but do you know exactly what your plan of action is to recover from such disaster? At TekConcierge, we ve got you covered with a solution and a plan for any type of disaster, from system failures, to security breaches, to even natural disasters. Why Does Your Business Need Backup and Disaster Recovery? Your business needs backup and disaster recovery because without it you are gambling your entire company, and even those who are good at gambling don t always win. If companies like Target and Sally Beauty can suffer from security breaches, your company can too. What would you do if your business data was suddenly lost, stolen or wiped out by a simple coffee spill on your computer? You would be left with nothing and your business may or may not bounce back. Having a backup and disaster recovery plan saves you from that stress.

Data Backup Options When you re backing up your data, you have options although not all of these options will be best for your company. You can backup your information offsite, you can mirror to another server, backup to a NAS device or an external hard drive ALL of these will work, but what s important is what option is most reliable and the quickest way for your business to get its data back. A good option is to use a NAS device to take a picture of your entire network infrastructure every 15 minutes, saving the images as a virtual machine. This file is the virtual image of everything within your network, and all you have to do is go into the NAS, double click and all of your data is accessible so that while an expert is fixing your server, your company can still work and not suffer any more downtime. If your office building catches fire and the NAS system is ruined, then you need an offsite location where your data backs up to the Cloud, or even multiple Clouds, or another server, so that you always have access to your data, even in the event of a physical disaster.

Importance of Continuous Backup If your business is backing up data once a day and your system failed, you would lose an entire day s worth of work this is why continuous data backup is necessary. Your data will be backed up every fifteen minutes, so that if you do encounter a system failure, a dropped laptop, a disastrous flood, or if your server goes down you will be losing fifteen minutes worth of data rather than a day s worth of data, or ALL of your data in the event that you don t backup your data at all. Money cannot buy your data back the only way to ensure that your data is safe is to continuously back up information and to have the insurance of a disaster recovery plan and solution. Instant Recovery Data backup alone is not enough you need to be able to recover that data instantly to continue a healthy workflow. When your system goes down, it could take 15, 30, 60 days or even longer until a technician can fix your server or until your new server is set up. The time in between your system going down and when your system is up and running again is downtime that is costing your business time and money. But, with instant recovery you have your data back instantly because we create a virtual environment in which your business can continue to work using the images as a virtual machine until your server is functioning again. Testing is Critical So you have a recovery plan great! But unless you ve tested it and made sure it works, you may not have a plan at all. Test your plan regularly to weed out any flaws or steps that don t work and keep your employees on their toes in case disaster strikes or you have a

system failure. You should also be making sure that the offsite data center that has your files backed up is working properly, that way if your building is flooded, on fire or your system fails, you won t find yourself panicking when you find out your data hasn t been backed up properly! You Need a Plan and Solution Just having a backup and disaster recovery system isn t enough. You need a contingency plan and a solution. Just because you have your data backed up to the Cloud, doesn t mean that your employees know what to do with that data or how to access it. A contingency plan will keep your employees in the loop when it comes to post-disaster operations and will ensure that your business bounces back after disaster, productively and effectively. You need solutions AND a plan. If you aren t willing to risk everything you ve ever worked for in your business, then you need a backup and disaster recovery plan. At TekConcierge, we can help you be prepared for anything. Contact us today to start planning for disaster, because yes, they do happen.
