MOVIEMOV ITALIAN FILM FESTIVAL 8-12 JUNE 2011 Bangkok SFX CINEMA, 6TH FLOOR EMPORIUM DEPARTMENT STORE International premiers with free entrance and Thai and English subtitles Moviemov is an itinerant showcase built around a selection of the most important Italian films of the last year 2010/2011 still unreleased in Thailand and also an opportunity to explore new and possible connections and chances of meetings, through the essence of our cinema. Thai audiences and movie business curiosity gives us the chance of creating during the month of the Italian Culture in Bangkok, the first edition of Moviemov Italian Film Festival. The festival is created and directed by Senator Goffredo Bettini in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Thailand and organized by Asiatica Film Mediale and PlaytownRoma, thanks to the Italian Ministry of Culture Cinema General Direction, Chamber of Commerce, and Province of Rome, with the essential support of several partners and private sponsors. The Festival will present not only an itinerant showcase on Italian contemporary cinema but also retrospectives and tributes, master classes and an exhibition dedicated to the relationship between the famous Italian couturier Fernanda Gattinoni and the biggest cinema stars at the time of Hollywood on the Tiber. In order to compare contemporary films with the work of Masters of Cinema we chose this year to describe our country, especially Italians' vices and virtues, through a retrospective dedicated to Mario Monicelli, one of the most famous Italian Comedy director with a selection of 7 titles like Cops and Robber (1951), Dearest Relatives Poisonous Relations (1992), Big Deal on Madonna Street (1958), The Great War (1959), that won the Golden Lion and the Oscar Nomination. The theaters of the SFX Cinema Emporium, one of the most popular of the city, will host the screenings program and in order to encourage the participation not only of the cinemagoers, but also for the students of Chulalongkorn University and the Thai Film Archive, all the screenings will be free entrance and in original language with English and Thai subtitles. The cultural twinning between Italy and Thailand will be completed by the tribute to Pen-Ek Ratanaruang, one of the most talented and popular directors, well known in the international festival circuits. Two screenings in collaboration with the cinema magazine CIAK will be dedicated to his work and an Award as Best Thai Director 2011. In the past few years Italian cinema, just like Asian cinema, has become more and more important in the international scenario, thanks to a new generation of young directors and actors, who are highly regarded and wanted in the festival circuit. For this reason, during the professional days organized by the Moviemov in Bangkok, the International Rome Film Festival will dedicate two days at the Thai films pre selection for the next festival edition that will be held from October 27 th to November 4 th 2011 in Rome.

ITALIAN SHOW CASE Italian comedy managed to bring young audience into cinemas and it overcame American films at the box office. For this reason we chose Manuale d Amore 3 The Ages of Love by Giovanni Veronesi, a funny and feel good comedy shot in Tuscany and Rome. Besides many famous Italian actors in its cast, one of the episodes stars Monica Bellucci and Robert De Niro. For the same reason the following movie will be Mine Vaganti Loose Cannons, by Ferzan Ozpetek. The director participated to the Bangkok Film Festival in 2004 with La finestra di fronte. Mine Vaganti is the story of a classic Italian family, upset by the sudden discovery that the youngest son is gay. Riccardo Scamarcio is in the cast, and he will also participate to Cannes Film Festival. We also chose two Italian movies already presented at the past edition of International Rome Film Festival. One is Una vita tranquilla A Quiet Life by Claudio Cupellini, nominated for several David di Donatello awards. The other one is La scuola è finita, by Valerio Jalongo, an outline about Italian school today. La doppia ora The Double Hour by Giuseppe Capotondi is a noir while Dieci inverni Ten Winters, Valerio Mieli s debut, is a bittersweet sentimental comedy with Michele Riondino and Isabella Ragonese. Io sono l amore I Am Love by Luca Guadagnino with Alba Rohrwacher and the outstanding Tilda Swinton will be close the Festival on 12th June. The director and Antonella Cannarozzi (Oscar Nominee for Best Costume Design) will attend the official screening. There will also be a special screening of the film Valzer The Waltz by Salvatore Maira. It has been presented in Venice, Giornate degli Autori/Venice Days. The film stars Maurizio Micheli and Valeria Solarino and it has been shot in one 90 long take. The jury that will judge the movies from the Showcase is made up of three members: Thai Director Ekachai Uekrongtham, Cinema Professor at Chulalongkorn University, Elio De Carolis and Chalida Uabumrungjit, one of the representatives of Thai Film Archive. On June 12th they will award with a MOVIEMOV plate the film that best represents Italy abroad ITALIAN SHOW CASE MANUALE D'AMORE 3 THE AGES OF LOVE Italy, 2011, 100 by Giovanni Veronesi UNA VITA TRANQUILLA A QUIET LIFE Italy, 2010, 100' by Claudio Cupellini MINE VAGANTI LOOSE CANNONS Italy, 2010, 110' by Ferzan Ozpetek DIECI INVERNI TEN WINTERS Italy, 2009, 99' by Valerio Mieli LA DOPPIA ORA THE DOUBLE HOUR Italy, 2009 95 by Giuseppe Capotondi LA SCUOLA È FINITA SCHOOL IS OVER Italy, Switzerland, 2010, 85' by Valerio Jalongo IO SONO L AMORE I AM LOVE Italy, 2009, 120 by Luca Guadagnino Special screening VALZER THE WALTZ Italy, 2007, 90, by Salvatore Maira

THAI CINEMA SPECIAL TRIBUTE TO PEN-EK RATANARUANG The cultural twinning between Italy and Thailand will be completed by the tribute to Pen-Ek Ratanaruang, one of the most talented and popular directors, well known in the international festival circuits. Two screenings will be dedicated to Pen-Ek in Bangkok during the Festival, presented by Moviemov with the support of Ciak Magazine. He will also receive the Best Thai Director 2011 award which will be given to him during the Ciak d Oro ceremony in Rome. The director chose to screen Last Life in the Universe and Ploy. Both movies are shot with a soft touch, with a particular attention to the use of light and photography. While in Last life in the universe is centered on the character s psychological issues, Ploy is the story of disenchanted love and different truths. Pen-Ek follows his own path, becoming more and more intimistic and mysterious. June 9 th at 5.30pm Ploy (Thailand, 2005, 95 ) SF Cinema The director will present his movie along with Goffredo Bettini, artistic director of Moviemov, and Piera Detassis, artistic director of International Rome Film Festival and director of Ciak Magazine June 10 th at 5.30pm Last Life in the Universe (Thailand, 2003, 112 ) Presented at 60^ Mostra Internazionale d Arte Cinematografica di Venezia in 2003 Controcorrente and Toronto International Film festival Filmography 2009 Sawasdee Bangkok 2009 Nang mai 2007 Ploy 2006 Digital Sam in Sam Saek 2006: Talk to Her (segment "Twelve Twenty") 2006 Invisible Waves 2003 Ruang rak noi nid mahasan 2001 Love Song: Monrak Transistor 1999 Ruang talok 69 1997 Fun Bar Karaoke

CLASSIC RETROSPECTIVE MARIO MONICELLI We have dedicate a special tribute to an Italian director and screenwriter and one of the masters of the Commedia all Italiana (Comedy Italian style) Mario Monicelli. The critics have described his cinematography as a perfect mirror of the Italian society during the 1950s and 1960s, the pre and post War years. Through his movies we can understand the evolutionary change of an entire society, the costumes and traditions of a country, all the virtues and vices of one generation and their weakness, bitterness, failures, hopes and dreams. Without his work, we wouldn't have had the courage to change our point of view concerning the Italian history learned on school books. From Macchiavelli's Mandrake (Mandragola) to the Comedy of craft (Commedia dell'arte), we have revalued the deepest vein of the Italian culture: to play down the importance of everyday dramas. An entire life dedicated to Cinema, his genius and intemperance, as only the great masters can act. According to this, celebrating the 150th Unification of Italy anniversary, we have decided to describe our country and Italian people through Monicelli's work, since we have a new generation of Italian directors (thanks to the work of Monicelli, Dino Risi and Luigi Comencini) bringing new life to the Comedy Italian style. A special selection of 7 movies among these "La Grande Guerra - The Great War", featuring Alberto Sordi, Vittorio Gassman e Silvana Mangano. For this work Monicelli won a Leone d'oro in the Venice Film Festival, and an a Academy Award nomination for best foreign film. "Un Borghese Piccolo Piccolo - An Average Little Man" that was presented in the 1977 Cannes Film Festival, "Il Marchese del Grillo The Marquis of Grillo" for whom Monicelli won the Silver Bear for Best Director at the 32nd Berlin International Film Festival and "I Soliti Ignoti - Big Deal on Madonna Street" GUARDIE E LADRI - COPS AND ROBBER Italy, 1951, 106 b/n I SOLITI IGNOTI BIG DEAL ON MADONNA STREET Italy, 1958, 105' b/n) LA GRANDE GUERRA THE GREAT WAR Italy, 1959, 140' b/n AMICI MIEI MY FRIENDS Italy, 1975, 140 UN BORGHESE PICCOLO PICCOLO - AN AVERAGE LITTLE MAN Italy, 1977,118 IL MARCHESE DEL GRILLO THE MARQUIS OF GRILLO Italy, 1981, 135' PARENTI SERPENTI - DEAREST RELATIVES POISONOUS RELATIONS Italy, 1992,105
