Veteran Benefit Declaration Accessing the Veteran Benefit Declaration Page To access the Veteran Benefit Declaration page as a veteran student user. Veterans can access the Veteran Benefit Declaration page by: 1. Logging onto TU Portal. 2. Click on Student Tools (See FIGURE 1). FIGURE 1 3. Under the Registration Channel Click on the Veterans Declaration Icon (See FIGURE 2). FIGURE 2 1 of 5
Understanding the Veteran Benefit Declaration Page The Veteran Benefit Declaration Page: 1. Allows veterans to notify the Registrar that they would or would not like their benefits processed for a particular term. 2. Allows veterans to view the veteran s chapter and yellow ribbon benefits. 3. Allows veterans to view the veteran s benefit history. Submitting a Benefit Declaration Veterans can submit a benefit declaration by: 1. Selecting their desired term in the term drop down list a. Note: i. The term drop down list includes the entire academic year (the current term and the next three terms). ii. A term is removed from the list when the Registrar has started processing benefits for the veteran for that term. 1. If the veteran wants to change their declaration after the Registrar has started processing their benefits they will need to contact the Registrar at vastudentbenefits@temple.edu 2. Selecting Yes or No under Process Benefits. 3. Submitting an estimate of Credit Hours they will be or have registered for in the Credit Hours field. 4. Clicking Save Declaration. 5. The Declaration will appear below in the Benefit History section. 2 of 5
Submitting a Benefit Declaration the Veteran Benefit Declaration Page If a Veteran s Chapter is 35 and their Certificate of Eligibility was received by the office they can submit their VA file number (the social security number that is related to the parent or spouse that makes you eligible for receiving Chapter 35 benefits (Dependents Educational Assistance (DEA) by: 1. Typing the Social Security Number into the VA File Number field (See FIGURE 3). 2. Click Save VA File Number. FIGURE 3 Understanding Benefit History The Veterans in the Benefit History section on the Veteran Benefit Declaration page (See FIGURE 4) displays all benefit history for the Veteran with the most recent action appearing on the top of the list. FIGURE 4 1. Action Date a. Displays the date of the action. 2. Term a. Displays the term if applicable for the action. i. Note: A term is not applicable for actions involving the Certificate of Eligibility since the Certificate of Eligibility applies to the veteran s entire ii. academic life at Temple unless the veteran submits a new Certificate of Eligibility to the Registrar. 3 of 5
3. Process Benefits a. Displays Yes or No when applicable for action. Registrar Processing Benefits and Registrar 4. Credit Hours a. Displays the Veteran s or Registrar s (if the student submitted a Certificate of Eligibility during the term) estimate of credits based on whether the veteran will be Full Time or Part Time when applicable. Registrar Processing Benefits and Registrar 5. Declaration Date a. Displays the date the Veteran or Registrar on behalf of the student made a Declaration when applicable. Registrar Processing Benefits and Registrar 6. Status a. Displays Student Changed Benefit Declaration when: i. The Veteran submitted a new declaration ii. The Registrar submitted a new declaration on the student s behalf 1. When the Registrar process new Certificates of Eligibility, they submit a declaration of Yes for the term they receive the certificate on the veteran s behalf. b. Displays Registrar Submitted Benefits to VA when the Registrar processes a Veteran on VAOnce c. Displays Registrar Processing Benefits to VA when the Registrar Displays is processing benefits d. Registrar Received Certificate of Eligibility when the Registrar has received certificate e. Displays Registrar Processed Certificate of Eligibility when the Registrar has processed the Certificate 7. VA Credits a. Displays the total credits in Banner when the Registrar submitted the veteran s benefits to the VA when applicable. 4 of 5
8. Yellow Ribbon Amount a. Displays the amount of Yellow Ribbon benefits the Registrar submitted to the VA when applicable. 9. VA Amount a. Displays the amount of VA benefits the Registrar submitted to the VA when applicable. 10. VA Date a. Displays the date when the Registrar submitted the veteran s benefits to the VA when applicable. 11. Comments a. Displays the Comments the Registrar submitted to provide information to Veterans. b. Comments include the Cert ID and Transaction number generated by VA Once. 5 of 5
