Stefano Massucco Curriculum Vitae Stefano Massucco was born in Genova (Italy) on September 17, 1954. He has got the Master Degree in Electrical Engineering (5 year Laurea Degree) cum laude in May 1979 from the University of Genova (Italy). From 1979 to 1981 he hold a scholarship at the Electrical Engineering Department, University of Genova on the subject of supervision and control of electric power plants and systems. He also lectured as a under contract Professor in subject like Fundamentals of Automatic Control. From 1981 to 1983 he had been a Researcher at CREL - the Electrical Research Center of ENEL (Italian Electricity Board) in Milano, Italy where he worked in the field of power system planning with specific focus of interconnection of large power plants to the grid. From 1984 to 1987 he was with Ansaldo S.p.A (NIRA Nucleare Italiana Reattori Avanzati) working in Conventional and Nuclear Power Plant automation and electric power systems. In 1987 he won a National Contest for Associated Professor and worked until 1993 at the University of Pavia where he lectured in Electric Traction System, Power System Automation and continued his research activity in modelling and control of production, transmission and distribution systems, power system stability and dynamic security evaluation by the operator in network control centers and industrial plant control rooms. Since November 1994 he has been with the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Genova, Electrical Engineering Department, where since 2000 he is Full Professor of Power System Automation. His research activity covers issues regarding smartgrids, power system automation by means of such innovative techniques as artificial intelligence, development of models for turbogas and combined-cycle generating units, load shedding strategies to face emergency conditions in power systems, distribution automation, distributed generation, liberalized energy market, definition of ancillary service technical and economical features, role of load in power system security and economics. He participated and he is still member of CIGRE and IEEE workgroups and task forces (CIGRE WG C4.6.01 On Line Security, IEEE TF On Large Interconnected Power Systems Response to Generation Governing); TF on Review of on-line Dynamic Security Assessment Tools and Techniques and Review of potential Tools and Techniques for risk-based and Probabilistic Planning in Power Systems. He is a member of AEI, IEEE, CEI 11 D Committee for the definition of power plants-network interface requirements for large power plants and for distributed generation (CEI 11-32 and CEI 11-20). Prof. Massucco is author of over 180 scientific publications in power systems. He is official referee for IEEE Transaction on Power Systems, on Energy Conversion, on Automatic Control and of IEE Proceedings on Generation Transmission and Distribution. He is a member of the Scientific Committees of several International Symposia and Session chairman. He was reviewer of UE projects and of scientific research projects in UK and Australia. He is lecturing in Conventional and renewable generation, Management and control of electric power systems and markets, Power systems in hospital structures. He was coordinator of the PhD courses in Electrical Engineering and was in charge of an European PhD supported by MIUR that involved the Universities of Graz (A), Grenoble (F), Liegi (B), Varsavia (PL), Genova (I).
