Dear friends of the Goetheanum, Dear members of the General Anthroposophical Society, Dear members of the School of Spiritual Science, It is almost 100 years since Rudolf Steiner, on 20 September 1913, laid the foundation stone for a building which was intended to serve anthroposophy. This gesture constituted the beginning of a process which led to the institution of the School of Spiritual Science at the Goetheanum with its specialist sections and 19-stage esoteric path at Christmas 1923/1924. Rudolf Steiner described both the School of Spiritual Science and the esoteric path as the «soul» of the General Anthroposophical Society. We would like to use this occasion to look at Rudolf Steiner s epochal initiative together, at the spiritual impulses from which this initiative arose and at the cultural tasks awaiting us now and in the near future. A series of lectures will outline the historical background and underlying motifs, and evoke questions and images of how these tasks can be approached. Artistic workgroups might inspire participants to embark on or enhance their inner development. The study and conversation groups offer the opportunity for a lively sharing of views and experiences on questions of self-development and continued professional training as well as on current and future tasks. Some groups will be for members of the General Anthroposophical Society or the School of Spiritual Science only, offering the possibility of working on the future development of these institutions. We are looking forward to meeting you and to working together with you, on behalf of the Goetheanum Leadership Group : Commemorating the 20 September 1913 On Friday, 20 September 2013 the Goetheanum will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone on 20 September 1913. From 3 to 9 p. m. we will commemorate this momentous event with artistic contributions and lectures by Virginia Sease, Rudolf Gädecke, Peter Selg and Christian Hitsch. (The full programme will be available from Reception from the end of March.) Oliver Conradt, Jean-Michel Florin, Michaela Glöckler, Christiane Haid, Ueli Hurter, Constanza Kaliks, Johannes Kühl, Paul Mackay, Florian Osswald, Bodo von Plato, Claus-Peter Röh, Virginia Sease, Margrethe Solstad, Justus Wittich and Seija Zimmermann Yours sincerely, Michaela Glöckler, Christiane Haid and Claus-Peter Röh
