Instruction Guide: INSTRUCTION GUIDE: DOWNLOADING & USING AURORA TOOLBOX Instructions for Downloading & Using Aurora Toolbox Downloading and Installing the Aurora Toolbox Program The Aurora Toolbox is a one stop shop program that will allow service technicians to download and update the latest software for the Aurora Controls. This includes the ABC and AXB control boards, field updatable thermostats and the AWL SD card. The service technicians can use the Aurora Toolbox along with the AWL as a local AID Tool. Documentation relating to the Aurora Controls is also available in the Aurora Toolbox. Download and install the Aurora Toolbox Program You only have to do this step once. If the Aurora Toolbox program is already installed on your computer, then jump to the Using the Aurora Toolbox Program section. In your browser, type the following URL: www.auroracontrols.com/toolbox. Click on the Download link for the Aurora Toolbox. Depending on the internet browser you are using you can either click the Save File button or the Run button. If you save the file you will need to double click on the AuroraToolbox_v1.00_Setup.exe file. Click on the Run button. 1
You may also see a Security Warning about an unknown publisher, or an antivirus warning that it hasn t seen this file before. Select the Run or Allow This File to continue. Click the Next button. Click the Install button. 2
Click the finish button. It shows a Readme.txt file. Close the window after reading it. 3
Using the Aurora Toolbox Program Run the Aurora Toolbox Program Double click the Aurora Toolbox icon on your desktop. Click Yes to download the latest image files. NOTE: For the initial download and future updates of ToolBox software, you must have an internet connection. Once image files have been loaded they can be accessed without an internet connection. You should see the Completed message if it was successful. Click the Ok button. 4
Downloading the ABC and AXB Firmware to PICkit3 Module Connect the PICkit 3 Module. 1. Connect the small end of the red cable to the PICkit 3 module. 2. Connect the big end of the red cable to a spare USB port on your computer or laptop. NOTE: It may take windows a minute or two to recognize the new device. Select the Control Boards tab. 1. Select the Unit Type: Single and Dual Capacity, Variable Speed or Vapor Injection. 2. Select Board type: ABC or AXB. 3. Select AWL Support: Yes or No 4. Select the Firmware File. 5. Click on the Program PICkit3 button 5
Wait for it to finish programming the PICkit 3. You should see an Operation Succeeded message. There will also be a suggested label after the Operation Succeeded message for your PICkit 3. Refer to document IG1608EW for instructions to load the firmware to an ABC or AXB board. This document can be viewed by selecting the link shown above. Downloading Thermostat Firmware to USB Flash Drive Connect the USB Flash Drive Connect the USB Flash Drive to a spare USB port on your computer or laptop. Note: Make sure all files are deleted from the flash drive before downloading updates, this will ensure the proper software version is loaded on the flash drive. NOTE: It may take windows a minute or two to recognize the new device. Select the Thermostat tab. 6
1. Select the Thermostat Type: Color or MasterStat 2. Select AWL Support: Yes or No 3. Select the Firmware File 4. Select the USB Flash Drive 5. Click the Program USB Flash Drive button NOTE: If you are prompted to format the flash drive select FAT32 for Windows, or MS-DOS (FAT) for Apple/Mac operating system. Wait for it to finish programming the USB Flash Drive. You should see an Operation Succeeded message. There will also be a message suggesting to label your USB flash drive after the Operation Succeeded message. Refer to document IG1606EW for instructions to load the firmware to the thermostat. Download Firmware to the AWL SD Card Connect the SD Card Drive Connect the SD Card Drive to the SD Card Reader on your computer or laptop. NOTE: It may take windows a minute or two to recognize the new device. 7
Select the AWL tab. 1. Select the Firmware File 2. Select the SD Card Drive 3. Click the Program SD Card button Wait for it to finish programming the SD Card Drive. You should see an Operation Succeeded message. Insert SD card into AWL, cycle power to the AWL to complete installation. 8
Using the Local AID Tool Select the Local AID Tool tab 1. Press the button on the AWL for 5 to 10 seconds. You should see the Green LED start to blink fast. 2. Select the wireless network AWL-xx-xx-xx. The xx-xx-xx will be the last 6 characters of the AWL ID found on the bottom of your AWL. 3. Click the Launch Browser with Local AID Tool button. Viewing the Aurora Documentation Select the Documents tab. 9
Click on the desired document. This will launch the document in Adobe PDF Reader. Viewing the About Information Select the About tab. 10
