Our latest innovation - Smardt NanoGuard condenser coating The lotus effect refers to the very high water repellence exhibited by the leaves of the lotus flower. Dirt particles are picked up by water droplets due to a complex micro- and nanoscopic architecture of the surface, which minimizes adhesion. This enables the contact area and the adhesion force between surface and droplet to be significantly reduced resulting in a self-cleaning process. Smardt NanoGuard coating is a hydrophobic nano -polymer coating based on this effect and protecting the condenser coil from corrosive environments. This innovative nanotechnology is not only water and dirt repellant through its self-cleaning function, it has also very high heat transfer capabilities and maintains a long-term efficient heat exchange because of a reduced dirt build-up on the coils. NanoGuard coating is only 5µ thin and resists corrosion, water, and dust; Salt Spray test results achieve over 3,000 hours, and counting.

On uncoated fins, water droplets accumulate which can restrict air flow, cause pitting, corrosion and produce water spray. At Smardt-Powerpax, NanoGuard corrosion protection is included in the standard scope of supply! NanoGuard coating prevents the adherence of the water droplets on the fin surface, assisting the fin from accumulating dust and water.
Uncoated fin Smardt performed side by side exposure testing of two condenser coils in the harsh environment of a jet airport located near sea. The environment contained salt air and jet fuel wash. Dust accumulation test Dust accumulation test was performed on 3 fin types: Plain aluminum epoxy coating Nano coating The test were made according to MIL-STD-810G chapter 510.5. 4 coils (4 fin types) were inserted into dust chamber that contained 70 gr of red clay dust that was blown in the chamber. Each coil had a draw through fan that circulated the dust through the coils.

No Hail Guard needed Thanks to the V coil construction the Smardt-Powerpax Chiller condenser coils are protected from dirt, dust and weather influences like strong hail and direct UV.
The most rugged condenser available in the market Smardt-PowerPax air-cooled chillers utilize the most rugged condenser available in the market. The coil frame is built from 3mm thick marine grade aluminium and is fully welded eliminating the potential of any galvanic reaction. Small 7mm diameter copper tubes allow for a high heat density and a simultaneous reduction of refrigerant charge lowering the carbon footprint but improving the heat exchange and increasing the efficiency. The fins are 30% thicker than competitor solutions and designed to handle high air velocities, high ambient temperatures and the most abrasive environments. Additionally, the chiller s base frame is heavy duty hot-dip galvanized and the screws and fixings above the base are stainless steel as standard for optimal corrosion protection. All these advantages result in considerably reduced energy use and maintenance costs, too.
Condenser coil construction
Over 10 years ago Smardt-Powerpax led the market by introducing the Turbocor compressor into the air cooled chiller market. Nothing has been the same since. With our latest design, the Smardt air cooled chiller achieves a full load efficiency of over 3.8 COP and 6.5 IPLV under AHRI conditions.
We did not stop there. In our new design, we leveraged our oil free expertise to create an integrated free cooling mode. So when it s cold outside, the compressor can be turned off and cooling is achieved using the natural thermosyphoning properties of refrigerant. No extra pumps, coils or fluid coolers are needed. In free cooling mode, only the condenser fans operate reaching an unprecedented efficiency of over 100 COP.
