Concrete Resurfacing System Guide by Parchem Construction Supplies

Resurfacing Spray-on resurfacing is a 2-3mm topping applied to structurally sound concrete surfaces that are at least 28 days old. Resurfacing cures up to 40 Mpa providing a durable, abrasion resistant surface. With resurfacing you can add colour, pattern and detailed designs to your pavement at a fraction of the cost of concrete removal & replacement. Special effects such as fleck, highlights, coving and multiple colours can be incorporated to create unique and striking results. Resurfacing also allows the applicator to repair the substrate, repair cracks, correct levels and apply slip resistant textured surfaces. Suitable Uses Residential - driveways, patio s, paths and swimming pool surrounds, stairs and slab faces and low retaining walls. Small residential facilities remote mining communities. Light commercial pathways and pedestrian access for businesses, residential streets, bus stops and shopping centres. Health Facilities - aged care, hospitals and disability, ramps, pathways and signage for car parks and parking. Government/Council Infrastructures Tafe s, Schools, universities, public assets institutional buildings, parks & parklands and suburban streetscapes. Distinctive Features and Benefits Versatility and wide range of uses. Existing concrete application only minimum of 28 days old. Strength of concrete and flexibility of Acrylic polymers. 2-3mm thick topping. High strength surface up to 40mpa which in turn provides durability and increased wear. Internal and External applications. Minimal access work on top of the pavement not at side. A good level of slip and skid resistance can easily be achieved. Decorative Features and Benefits Vibrant colours from the standard colour range. Bright colours Yellow, Blue, Green, Red. Coloured mortar or purp lines. Crisp sharp lines when stencils are used. Customised and detailed designs, using multiple colours side by side. Create colour contrast for the visually impaired. Signage for disability car parks, schools. Fauxstone Finish simulates exposed aggregate without the environmental hazard/impact. Can be applied by spraying, trowel or squeegee to obtain different affects. Structural Features and Benefits Can be applied up to 4mm thick. Allows surface blemishes, faults and cracks to be treated. Can be applied over existing stencil, stamped, colour pigment and exposed aggregate pavements. Surface textures achieved and varied simply by adjusting the air pressure through the hopper gun. Hides many flaws and imperfections. Texture coat when slippery surfaces are a hazard. Components Modifier/ Primer: Is a water based acrylic primer used to prime the substrate before application of NXTGEN resurfacing compound. Improves adhesion of cement based products. NXTGEN Resurfacing Compound: Polymer modified cementitious topping which is generally spray applied over existing concrete surfaces. NXTGEN when mixed with colour dispersants is used to produce a wide range of colours and patterns and visually appealing designs. A variety of finishes can be achieved from smooth to rough texture simply by adjusting the air pressure on the hopper gun. A good level of slip and skid resistance can easily be achieved. 2

Colour Dispersant/Tints: Powdered blend of inorganic pigments designed for colouring the NXTGEN resurfacing compound. Colour dispersants have a high level of UV resistance. Mastertone Aqueous Tints can also be used to used to achieve bright colours such as Bright Yellow, Bright Red, Bright Blue and Bright Green. Seal Coat: Sealer must be applied to the NXTGEN resurfacing compound on the same day of application. 2-3 coats are crucial to aide cleanability due to the porous surface texture. Sealer helps to reduce the level of dirt ingress and enhances the decorative appearance. Whilst not chemical resistant, sealer provides protection from contaminants such as petrol and oil. Optional Components Depending on your design Stencil Designs: Pre-cut designs made from water resistant wax paper/ cardboard. The stencil protects concrete immediately under the paper, to create the purp line which remains grey and uncoloured. As the stencil attached to the pavement surface with blu-tac the purp lines are only depressed 1mm or so, which is the depth of the final spray coats Filament Tape: If the required pattern is not available in a preformed stencil straight patterns can be achieved by using filament tape. Manual measuring and application of the tape can be time consuming. Aqueous Tints: Water based colour tint used to achieve bright colours when mixed with the NXTGEN Resurfacing Compound. Inatone Colour Stain: A water based stain which is applied to a smooth textured Resurfacing to achieve a 2 toned look or a highlight colour. UA20: is a 2 part high solid, gloss urethane acrylic sealer. Used as a high gloss finish and advanced protection over resurfaced floors and pavements. UA20 is an extremely hard wearing, long life sealer with anti-graffiti capabilities. Non-yellowing with excellent chemical and solvent resistance. Properties / Test Results Wet Pendulum Test: 55 or Class V (AS/NZS 4586) Dry Floor Friction: 1.28 or Class F (AS/NZS 4586) Abrasion Index 0.9 Compressive Strength Maintenance 40.5Mpa at 28 days (AS/NZS 4456.9) (AS 1012) Regular maintenance and cleaning of the surface will prevent staining and keep the pavement looking at its best. Reseal every 12 18 months depending on the in service conditions. Please contact a Parchem Branch for instructions and further advice. Limitations This is not a DYI application. All contractors must be trained in the correct application of NXTGEN Resurfacing Compounds. Parchem have a dedicated training school to train new applicators. Parchem welcome enquiries on phone 02 4350 5000. Overspray may occur on surrounding surfaces and dwelling, if preventative steps are not taken Preparation is extremely important to ensure good adhesion. Crack treatment are not guaranteed not to re-crack and fail. Each crack should be evaluated to determine if a repair or replacement a localised section will have greater success whilst under a load. Do not spray over control joints in the concrete. Tape must be placed over joints as NXTGEN Resurfacing compounds will not adhere to the bitumen. Resurfacing is a decorative coating only and is only as sound as the substrate. If the substrate cracks the resurfaced coat will also crack. The substrate must be of sound structural integrity. Not suitable for pavers, drive tracks with centre filled in and concrete pavements with many subsections. M20: Premium polyurethane, high solids sealer. M20 is very high gloss and extremely hard wearing, requiring little maintenance. Suitable for internal and external applications. M20 s is a moisture cure, single pack polyurethane which also has antigraffiti capabilities. 3

Surface finishes Slip and skid resistance is largely determined by the final finish. Slip resistant surfaces are easy to achieve with NXTGEN Resurfacing Compounds by varying the pressure in the hopper gun, sands in the mix and application techniques. The following finishes are widely accepted: Smooth spray Smooth/fleck Sandpaper Fauxstone Trowel applied Please discuss these with your contractor, to ensure that you get the finish best suited to your site and project requirements. On large projects Parchem strongly your contractor to provide a sample board demonstrating colour, pattern and finish acceptable for approval before construction commences. 6

Installation / application STEP 1: Preparation of the substrate STEP 6: Lay Stencil, headers and features STEP 2: Protection of the surrounds STEP 7: Spray 1st colour coat, 2nd colour coat with surface texture to achieve the desired surface finish STEP 3: Crack treatment, repairs and levelling of the substrate where needed STEP 8: Remove Stencils STEP 4: Prime with Modifier STEP 9: 2 to 3 coats of sealer are applied to the surface This system must be applied in accordance with product application manual and Technical Data. Application methods supplied in this document are a summary only. Parchem provide training in Resurfacing application for Contractors at our Wyong Training Facility. Bookings Required. STEP 5: Spray base coat 7
