FUNCTIONAL DSCRIPTION BB2/PSR and QB2/PSR pressure control valves combine Proportion- Air s closed loop electronic pressure control valve and ProAir series volume booster into one complete package. Output pressure is proportional to an electrical signal input. Three components make up the valve package: BB2 or QB2 electro-pneumatic valve, an external transducer, and ProAir electropneumatic valve regulator. BB2/QB2 Theory of Operation At the heart of this package is the BB2 or QB2 closed loop electronic pressure control valve. The BB2 or QB2 is a complete closed loop system consisting of valves, manifold, housing and electronic controls. Pressure is controlled by use of two internal solenoid valves. One valve functions as inlet control, the other as exhaust. Controlled pressure output from the volume booster is measured by the external pressure transducer. This transducer provides a feedback signal to the electronic circuit inside the BB2 or QB2. This second loop feedback is compared with the command signal input. This comparison is then summed with the internal pressure transducer signal. The circuit gain is designed with priority given to the external feedback signal. A difference between the two signals causes one of the solenoid valves to open, allowing flow in or out of the BB2 or QB2. Accurate pressure is maintained by controlling these solenoid valves. The control pressure functions as the pilot signal to the volume booster. latching version. This option allows the user to address which valves are to respond to signal changes, while others maintain present state. An additional latch bit is required with digital latching valves. Monitor Feedback The BB2 has an optional monitor signal available for output to a panel meter or for data acquisition needs, and a one-bit digital TTL signal. The analog output is a buffered signal from the external transducer representing output signal. The TTL output is a conditional on/off signal to use for diagnostic purposes. This signal is LOW when the pressure is within 1% of final setting. The outputs can function as logic information to other controls in the process. BB valves come with a red LD light to indicate power to the valve. When ordered with the monitor option, an additional green LD is also supplied. This light indicates the valve s pressure status. A bright green glow shows that desired pressure has been reached. QB series products come standard with a 0-10 Vdc monitor output or with 4-20 ma as an option. This analog output is a buffered signal from the external transducer representing output signal. xternal Transducer The second system component is a feedback signal from an external transducer. BB2 and QB2 can accept a variety of feedback signals such as 0-10 vdc, 4-20mA, or 2-3mV/V. Consult factory for special options. PSR Regulator The third component in this system is the ProAir series volume booster. This air piloted booster functions as a slave valve to the BB2 or QB2. It provides controlled pressure at a higher flow rate than is possible directly through the BB2 or QB2. An auxiliary air line is plumbed from the inlet of volume booster to supply pressure to the BB2 or QB2. Command Signal Command signal inputs come in one of three choices; analog-voltage, analog-current, or 8 bit digital (BB valve only). Analog driven units give virtually an infinite range of output pressures from zero to full scale. Digital driven units give 256 increments of pressure including zero. For multiplexing situations (many digital valves run off the same buss line) there is a digital BB2 BB2/PSR 3

SCOND LOOP INFORMATION All BB2 valves come with a matched pressure transducer for second loop feedback input. This transducer may be excluded by ordering option S59. Select this option if using a sensing device other than the pressure transducer provided. QB2 valves do not come with a matched pressure transducer for second loop feedback input. Standard QB2 valves accept 0-10vdc second loop signal. Special options are available for 4-20mA and unamplified feedback signals. The second loop feedback can be wired directly to the 6-pin Hirschmann connector or through an auxiliary receptacle (S305 option). To help facilitate wiring, an auxiliary adapter cord H23 is required when ordering BB2 with S59 option or QB2 with S305 option. Select H23 cord if using a sensing device other than DSY, DSTY, or DSVY pressure transducer.
